TRIAL DAY FOR ANTE-POST BET: One of Daqman’s ante-post bets for Cheltenham, Chapeau De Soleil, is tested at Naas today. Daqman explains why a place will do in this Grade 1, preferably second because there are just seven runners!

HATS OFF TO OUR 21.0 GAMBLE

⭕ 1.42 Naas (Lawlor’s Novice Hurdle, Grade 1): On breeding, Chapeau De Soleil looks ideal for the Albert Bartlett, and we took 21.0 in the BETDAQ Sportsbook earlier in the week.

Patrick Mullins was impressed with him at Clonmel just before Christmas and wanted to keep the ride.

Paul Townend chose Ile Atlantique from the three other Willie Mullins runners in today’s race, on the strength of his 19-lengths romp (2m, heavy) at Gowran Park in November.

Chapeau De Soleil, a Soldier Of Fortune six-year-old, has 3m and 3m 2f hurdle scorers in his pedigree, and even a Grand National winner, down the dam’s side.

None of three star names to have won the Albert Bartlett recently had Grade-1 form: Minella Indo, Vanillier and Stay Away Fay had Grade 2 and 3 places up to that point.

Firefox, who caught pacesetting Ile Atlantique in a bumper at the Fairyhouse festival last April, himself made the running when beating Ballyburn in a maiden hurdle on the same course last month.

The runner-up has been the plunge horse this week for the Supreme Novices Hurdle, a significant pointer to Firefox today, though he still has to prove he can beat a Grade-1 field over this extra half-mile.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.98 Firefox, 14 Chapeau De Soleil

GET ON HUNTINGDON WHISPER

⭕ 2.50 Huntingdon Gary Moore is on a hat-trick in this class-2 juvenile hurdle, with class-4 Fontwell winner, Soigneux Bell.

The runner-up at Fontwell that day, Spiced Rum, was beaten a long way at any price next time out, and I prefer Alan King’s Whispering Royal, who ran a 5lb better race – says the handicapper – when scoring at Doncaster.

Kingy had a famous victory in this hurdles trial for four-year-olds with Sceau Royal in 2016.

Whispering Royal (BETDAQ 5.2) gets 8lb from Paul Nicholls’ French recruit, Kabral Du Mathan, the automatic top-weight first time out in England.

And trainer King should know the score with Kartoon And Co, having finished third with another one of his youngsters at Market Rasen when that one was second.

HENRIETTA BACK WITH A WIN

⭕ 3.00 and 3.30 Wincanton One of her top four courses at the last count more than 11 years ago, Wincanton is host to the return of Henrietta Knight, training again at the age of 77.

She has Zettabyte (1.30), second at Downpatrick in October when with Gordon Elliott, and Ballywalter in this maiden hurdle (at 3.00), also last seen in October, winner of a Point. BETDAQ 13.0.

James Bowen, who rides Zettabyte, takes over on Nicky Henderson’s Call The Dance (3.30) who, as a mare, gets 7lb from the hardcore of this field.

A pace runner with bags of stamina (she’s by Kayf Tara), she looks well suited to this track and the conditions, and was the early gamble of the meeting, backed down to around even money.

BEACH FOR TRAINER’S TREBLE

⭕ 3.55 Huntingdon Bridgnorth trainer Mel Rowley, who landed a double at Doncaster on Wednesday, relies solely on Blue Beach for the treble today, and I took 2.83 on BETDAQ.

Blue Beach has been out of the frame only once in her life. Winning here at Huntingdon last February and close to landing an upset, second of 15 in a Grade-2 novices hurdle at Newbury in March.

She was not disgraced switching to fences on a tough track, Exeter, just before Christmas, a heat of the mares’ chase series as today.

Though short on chasing experience, Blue Beach has the advantage of being an improver two years younger than her three main rivals.

Of these Jack’s Touch has consistently good form without breaking out of class 5; Shirocco’s Dream drops down in trip, with all her best form on good ground; Uptown Lady has won only a novice hurdle and has been absent 296 days.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
