LORD PROTECTOR LOOKS POISED
⭕ 3.20 Sandown today Rossa Ryan has the 50 up this season, no fewer than 40 of them for Ralph Beckett, a very profitable partnership for them and 20-points-plus profitable for punters (level stake on every Ryan-Beckett runner).
The partnership’s Salisbury winner on the soft last Spring, Lord Protector, looks poised to enjoy the cut in the ground at Sandown this afternoon.
Jewel In My Crown gets a lump of weight and was beaten only a neck at this class-3 level at Windsor late last month.
But the winner, giving 13lb, was trained by Beckett, so he should know where he stands, giving 9lb to the same horse today.
Enfranchisement hasn’t won above class 4 and is up 8lb, raised a grade, since his last success.
Motazzen looks more one to watch for the future, having his first run for George Boughey, after 258 days’ absence from the track.
Down three furlongs on his last winning performance over 1m 5f (very soft) for Jean-Claude Rouget.
But Motazzen has won over today’s trip, when setting his own pace; he’s been gelded and William Buick is booked. The market will tell us whether he’s ready.
MO SCORED FOUR LAST SPRING
⭕ 3.30 York Despite small fields, stalls 1 and 2 have shared six wins out of eight in this, and CD-winner Brunch (drawn 2), beaten twice in Springtime photo-finishes for the Hambleton Handicap here, seems sure to go close again. But just when YOU think he’s going to win HE thinks he’s done enough!
The entire Marie’s Diamond, out of the one stall, loves firm ground and could bounce back but, like Art Du Val, best recent form has been in Dubai.
Bell Rock is another six-year-old with a chance on the ground. But I think the race may prove to be a match between the four-year-olds, Mohaafeth and Valiant Prince.
Charlie Appleby is still going great guns with three-out of five this week and Meydan handicaps winner Valiant Prince could improve for the fitting of a hood.
But Mohaafeth won four in a row last Spring, including the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot (Group 3) before third here at York in a Group 2 and fourth behind Mishriff and Alenquer in the Group-1 York International. Tongue-tied now.
MAGIC LINE TO AGGAGIO FORM
⭕ 6.24 Goodwood Hughie Morrison coaxed Whitehaven from class 6 to class 4 but he found it difficult up another 6lb and in higher grades; he looks vulnerable giving weight all round here. Stablemate Ravens Ark is a class 4, 5 and 6 winner.
Fox Vardy is down the handicap now but hasn’t won for two years, trying to make a better grade, but he’s been beaten (placed 324) in all three runs at Goodwood.
Twisted Reality has won only her maiden – always a bad sign – and left Ralph Beckett for David Menuiser with a bad run at Ayr (soon tailed off).
Auriferous has been second twice a grade higher than today but has been placed eight times without winning.
Saratoga Gold catches the eye; three times a winner, including here at Goodwood, but weakened more than 11 lengths behind Aggagio here at Goodwood on the soft three weeks back.
He is handicapped 11lb better off today but Gary Moore has claimed off Aggagio, and another line – through Mellow Magic – also suggests that Saratoga is likely to miss the gold.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
