BOOM: BOOMTOWN (WON 9/4) saved the day for DAQMAN yesterday after a wretched performance from the nap Sofias Number One. undeterred, DAQMAN returns to Southwell for their card on Friday.

A small profit yesterday thanks to the success of the first tip Boomtown. I needed it, as it turned out, as the nap Sofias Number One ran too bad to be true.

But it was a small profit at SP – which of course on BETDAQ translates to a better profit. And that’s the key. Getting better prices, fighting for better prices, even if just fractions of fractions makes a big difference to your betting success at the end of the year.

It’s not to late to set some resolutions – and the biggest one must be price. Take chances where you can – put up offers – tempters to the layers and every time you get over the odds – tap yourself on the back. You are on the road to making the game pay.

Poker players call it the grind. Grinding out a small percentage profit after hours of play.

Apart from Lingfield, which was called off earlier in the week, racing goes ahead today but the weekend picture is much less certain.

Sandown and Wincanton will both stage inspections ahead of their Saturday cards and Plumpton have expressed doubts about their Sunday card. Looking further ahead Taunton looks in doubt on Monday as is Chepstow on Tuesday.

At Southwell today I thought Pick A Little looked too short in the closing handicap over six furlongs despite being a dual course and distance winner. Yesterday I stressed the importance of course experience at Southwell (not that it helped me much with Sofias Number One) and whilst there are no problems in this area for Pick A Little – he does look vulnerable under a penalty for a narrow success at Wolverhampton last time out when he landed a gamble.

A better option might be Ridgeway Hawk who is returning after a long break but has shown good course and distance form and looks very tempting at around 8.6 on BETDAQ.

I thought the top weight Ryton Runner had place prospects in the 2.40 at Musselburgh. The Lucinda Russell trained runner should be suited by trip and going and is slipping down the weights to a level that could see him get involved here.

The 7.00 at Wolverhampton looks a really modest contest and Secret Song gets the vote by default. This is a far easier proposition that the race he was sent off favourite in here last week and the Sir Mark Prescott trained runner should oblige.

DAQMAN’S BETS:
BET 5pts win (NAP) Ridgeway Hawk (3.30 Southwell)
BET 2pts win and place (Outsider Of The Day) RYTON RUNNER (2.40 Musselburgh)
BET 5pts win SECRET SONG (7.00 Wolverhampton)
