‘GREAT HORSE’ WINS IN FRANCE

CHARYN, pronounced ‘shareen’, is a river, a national park, a graceful charming girl, the quest for higher truth.. All depends on whether you are Russian, Greek or from Kazakhstan, the world’s ninth largest country.

I get all that in early before ITV Racing ravages its meaning and pronunciation in a cocktail of OliLuke-warm Chapmanesque, not to mention the law according to Hoiles.

You’ll be hearing a lot about Charyn, after his hugely impressive win at Deauville yesterday in the (altogether now Luke, Ed and Oli) Group-1 Prix Du Haras De Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois (pictured below).

Inspiral’s change of jockey was the talking point before the race. The difference between Ryan Moore yesterday and Kieran Shoemark in her previous starts this year is that Moore openly fought, rodeo-style, to boss the unwilling mare.

Giving trouble at the start for the third successive race, she was applied to her work so well that she made up ground from a seemingly-impossible position to get third.

But she was never going to catch the remarkable Charyn, who strode stylishly clear under Silvestre De Sousa, like a miler version of Ace Impact, with a late finish by French Guineas winner Metropolitan seizing second.

Charyn’s main aim is the QE11 on British Champions Day. Metropolitan goes for the Prix Du Moulin. Inspiral for the Sun Chariot she won last year.

Trainer Roger Varian pronounced his verdict on the race in words we rarely hear outside Ballydoyle, and rarely concur with: ‘Charyn is a great horse.’

KEEN ON ALACRITY

⭕ 5.35 Kempton Most of the races at Kempton today are really watching events with an eye on the future and I’ll swerve the three consecutive maidens – all confined to debutants.

In fact the only bet that really appeals comes in the finale where the Andrew Balding trained Alacrity can continue the amazing run of form for Oisin Murphy who has now ridden eight winners from his last 12 runners.

In truth, Alacrity needs to bounce back from her recent turf form this season where she hasn’t exactly set the world alight but the switch back to the all-weather, a drop in the weights and a slight drop in class are all counter arguments to think a better performance is imminent.

Carpathian was heading the morning Betdaq Betting Exchange market but she is 0-8 and is not getting much relief from the handicapper. I’m also not entirely convinced that the step up in trip will be a positive.

A bigger danger might come from Maritime Lady who gained reward for consistency with a win at Leicester last time out – the first time cheekpieces (on again today) seemingly helped and SDS is back in the saddle today.

THE NAP: DING DING

⭕ 6.15 Ayr The appropriately named Ayr Poet goes well here with six course wins to his name – the latest off a mark of 66 so he obviously makes some appeal off his current level of 62.

At nine he is the joint eldest of the party but retains his enthusiasm. His Carlisle third last week was solid enough form but he has a strong challenge to face today headed by last time out winners Dingwall, We Still Believe and Carvalhal who are all up in the weights but are surely more progressive at this stage of their careers?

Dingwall probably looks the one after an easy course and distance win last time out. He’s up 6lb but that was his first effort over today’s trip and further improvement could easily follow now the penny has dropped.

We Still Believe has been hugely consistent and deserved his course and distance win last month but is now on a career high mark.

Carvalhal romped home in what looked an easier contest at Hamilton last time out but the handicapper doesn’t like six length winners and he is now up 7lb and in any event held by Dingwall on course and distance form.

A SCENE SETTER

⭕ 7.40 Windsor Just five runners remain in this handicap and let’s just say they are finding winning difficult !!

Kinetic 0-11
Bramble Jelly 0-14
Make A Scene 1-10
I Dare You 0-7
Ramaah 0-8

1 win from 50 runs between them – I think there’s every chance that four of them will remain maidens too as Make A Scene looks over-priced here.

As well as being the only previous winner in the line up, she also brings the best recent form into the race. A short head second at Lingfield last time out (Bramble Jelly third that day) reads well and she has the proficient Jack Mitchell in the saddle.

Kinetic looks too short. She was runner-up last time out at Yarmouth when sent off an even money favourite but that looked an even weaker event to me.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
