5-6 NAP! DAQMAN TAKES OVER AFTER SHAMROCK HITS 10: Daqman landed his nap – a 20-point supernap – at Naas yesterday with Midnight Run (WON 5-6), a value price for such an easy winner. Says Daqman: ‘About time I was back to form with the nap! Luckily the spotlight was away from me, turned on a fantastic run of TEN naps in a row by my Irish colleague, Shamrock. Lucky Shamrock? Don’t you believe it; he works extremely hard for every winner, so very well deserved.’

CHELTENHAM: 260.0 OUTSIDER GOLD-CUP-DAY WHISPER: Daqman’s ‘man the long grass’ advises ‘terrific’ progress by a big outsider for Cheltenham, with Daqman set to begin his festival countdown tomorrow. He saw just a few pounds liquidity available about Hold The Note at 260.0, an enormous offer for the Albert Bartlett on Gold Cup day at Cheltenham.

HEADING WEST FOR AYR SUPERNAP

1.50 Ayr There’s still some juice in the ground at Ayr despite the February heatwave (how often have THOSE two words gone together) and that should suit Western Honour in the opening novices’ hurdle.

The Gordon Elliott trained raider won a maiden hurdle at Clonmel with some give in the ground back in December and since then wasn’t disgraced when a close up third in better company at Thurles and then sixth in a Cork handicap.

This looks much easier pickings for the seven-year-old and can start the day off well for Elliott who has another three runners on the card.

The Ruth Jefferson trained Northern Soul is clearly the danger, and is 3lb superior on official ratings. I would be concerned though about the step up in trip for him. He was pulled up over 2m 4f at Carlisle and since then dropped back to 2 miles when the penny dropped with a win at Wetherby and a second at Kelso. It seems puzzling that he’s now back up in trip again.

The rest look to be up against it, although Looks Like Murt looks quite big in the market for one who ran well in a bumper here and can only improve. I’ll cover the SUPERNAP 20 point stake win a place bet on him.

3.20 Ayr A cracking novice chase which is a real Monday treat.

Rio Quinto made a cracking start to his chasing career with an all the way win at Lingfield – he took to the fences really well and could easily follow-up in this stronger contest.

In contrast, Gordon Elliott’s Westland Row failed to build on a promising second when making all kinds of mistakes at Navan last time out and eventually coming to grief two out. His jumping is going to be put to the test today and I would have to look elsewhere.

Kim Bailey (3 winners from last 15) is in good form so his hat-trick seeking Dandy Den very much has to come into consideration – despite an absence of 121 days. Both of his wins have come in small fields and he remains progressive but this is a tougher challenge.

4.50 Uttoxeter Another Theatre will be hard to beat here, despite having to give weight away (partly offset by Jason Dixon’s 7lb claim).

She won with any amount in hand last time out at Newcastle thumping previous Kelso winner Its All A Lark.

Dan Skelton’s Etamine Du Cochet had to work very hard for her win at Huntingdon and it wasn’t the greatest display of jumping and a bigger danger might be L’chamise who is consistent in this grade.
