ENABLE LANDS THE ARC AND SIXTH DAQMAN SUPER NAP: What a way to land a super nap! Daqman maintained maximum confidence in the horse he tipped for the Epsom Oaks in the Spring at 25-1 on BETDAQ. It’s been a long road for Enable (WON 4-5) but she raced right away from a strong Arc field for her fifth consecutive Group 1 and Daqman’s sixth winning super nap from seven:

WON 13-8 CAPE BYRON
WON 10-11 CARAVAGGIO
WON 5-2 LAGOSTOVEGAS
WON 4-9 GABR
WON 11-8 ELARQAM
2ND 5-6 NELSON (beaten a neck)
WON 4-5 ENABLE

Enable put Daqman 78-18 in front of Pricewise of the Racing Post, 315 points clear, and he also named Aclaim (WON 16-5). Daqman’s Fortune Cookies tipped first and third in the Arc, Enable and Ulysses, and had Clemmie in the Cheveley Park on Saturday.

WHERE’S THE NEXT GREAT CHAMPION COMING FROM: Today Daqman looks at past Arc winners and rates Enable alongside the greats. Tomorrow he’s already on the trail of next season’s champion with his two-year-olds test. Later in the month he will make his 2018 predictions.

ENABLE IN TOP SEVEN ARC WINNERS

How good is Enable? It’s almost impossible to compare the generations. You can set her up (how many Group-1 winners she beat) and you can knock her down (the second and third were not known for winning at the Arc distance).

Though it was ‘a proper Arc’ (quote unquote John Gosden), she was around evens most of the time with very little interest in the opposition. She showed very little interest in them either, always in command of her field, and going right away to win in faster than average time despite the soft groud.

The race was forecast as tactical and the magic moment was when two Ballydoyle horses closed in around Enable and Frankie Dettori eased her back in behind Order Of St George, then took them in the fast lane when he wanted.

Here are my top seven Arc winners. Watch them on Youtube and argue about it. Racing is kept alive by opinions, and I’ll never be able to back an Arc winner like Enable at 25-1 again!

140 Sea Bird by Dan Cupid (Native Dancer) Etienne Pollet 1965
138 Ribot by Tenerani (Bellini) Ugo Penco 1955 and 1956
136 Dancing Brave by Lyphard (Northern Dancer) Guy Harwood 1986
135 Mill Reef by Never Bend (Nasrullah) Ian Balding 1971
135 Sea The Stars by Cape Cross (Green Desert) John Oxx 2009
133 Alleged by Hoist The Flag (Tom Rolfe) Vincent O’Brien 1977 and 1978
131 Enable by Nathaniel (Galileo) John Gosden 2017

HEY THERE, HAYLAH GIRL

2.10 Bath Richard Hannon can start the week with a winner in the opener at Bath.

His Haylah went into my notebook on debut at Newbury when fifth to the favourite Beshaayir. It was a very promising debut and she was still in contention before tiring inside the final furlong.

The benefit of experience, slight step back in trip and easier looking opposition should see her record a first win here.

Time For Whine sets a standard but only relatively modest. She has some respectable form (including on testing ground) but has so far shown her best form over five furlongs and looks very vulnerable to an improver.

A bigger danger may come from Fashion Sense who was third on her debut at Ascot – although beaten six and half lengths – she should come on for that run.

3.10 Bath The two recent winners Jim Rockford and Bahuta Acha are both up in the weights but face several out of form rivals.

Preference is for Jim Rockford who was a winner over a shorter trip here two weeks ago but looks to have the profile of an improving horse and will also be suited by the step up in trip.

Bahuta Acha was winning for the first time when successful at Catterick over five furlongs but looks harshly treated with a hike of 8lb for winning what was a modest contest.

Of the others I thought Madame Jo Jo was interesting and will include in my bets. She showed little on her first three starts but seemed to relish the testing ground at Chepstow when fourth last time and gets in here off a feather weight.

4.20 Newton Abbot Maguire’s Glen was second over a shorter trip here last time out at 25/1 but I don’t think is certain to be suited by the longer trip.

Preference is for the younger Ramses De Teillee who was only pipped a neck and a head at Fontwell last time and David Pipe’s grey can gain a first win here.
