TODAY: It’s a big ask to try and follow last week’s profit haul at Royal Ascot but DAQMAN starts the week off with a nap at Chepstow in the 2.30.

COSMIC TO STAR AT CHEPSTOW

2.30 Chepstow This looks quite a modest contest and well within the reach of the William Haggas trained filly Cosmic Love. She has run well on all four of her starts and her rating of 77 should be good enough to land this.

Motajaasid made a pleasing debut at Goodwood (good to soft ground) but was a little disappointing when only fifth at Kempton last time out and didn’t seem to build on his debut effort. He steps up in distance today but was weakening at the end of the seven furlongs at Kempton so I can’t immediately think the step up in trip is a positive.

A bigger danger may come from the Mick Channon trained Rippling Waters who bizarrely started life in bumpers and is now down in trip for the flat. She ran her best race yet at Lingfield last time out but it did come on good to soft ground. Channon’s in pretty good form with five winners from his last 39 runners and a further 10 placed.

4.15 Southwell Not a bad class 4 handicap hurdle for jumps fans to get stuck into.

This is for mares only and the pic is Cubswin who showed her current well-being with a win on the flat at Lingfield two weeks ago (when she was well backed) and can make amends here for her last jumps run at Huntingdon where she was sent off favourite but unseated her rider four out.

She was previously narrowly beaten at Cheltenham at the end of April and might prove to have too much class for these.

8.40 Windsor Quite a weak card by Windsor standards and only five go to post for the fillies handicap over ten furlongs.

I thought Contrive looked a little bit of value on BETDAQ over the favourite Worth Waiting.

Contrive has improved with each start for Roger Varian and ran a cracker when stepped up in class last time out to finish second to Ganayem at Goodwood.

The big question is whether she can be equally as effective on the quicker ground, which isn’t the case with chief rival Worth Waiting who landed the odds to win at Redcar last time out on good to firm ground but it was a very modest contest.
