BANKER LANDS DOUBLE HAT-TRICK: Daqman completed a hat-trick of naps and a treble of bankers with the same horse at Carlisle yesterday, when Western Rules was among five winning bets on the day:
WIN Fine Rightly WON 3-1
WIN Western Rules WON 4-9 (banker)
WIN Bellshill WON 4-6 (double x nap)
WIN Bentelimar 2nd 13-2 (from 9.8)
WIN Mango Cap, lay, 3rd 10-11 fav
THAT’S 9 MAXIMUMS OUT OF 12: Western Rules was his ninth winning banker out of the last 12, making a three in a row with Djakadam (WON 7-4) and Volnay de Thaix (gold, WON 4-11). It was also his third consecutive nap following Volnay de Thaix and Southfield Royale (WON 2-1), taking his run to 19 in the NH season (total of 275 points profit):

Naps 2123211221311132111
RUN OF 29 LAYS UP OUT OF 32: The lay on the odds-on Mango Cap gives him 29 up from the last 32, made up of two sequences of 13 and 18 consecutively, with yesterday’s success a new one launched. He also starts the week 12-4 up over Pricewise:

HILLY WAY: IT’S ONCE MORE WITH FELIX
12.35 Navan (Hilly Way Chase) The last three winners of this – Felix Yonger, Twinlight and Days Hotel – do battle on a different track, with the Hilly Way’s home at Cork unable to race.
Felix Yonger’s Navan form is 11; Twinlight’s 21P; Days Hotel 222. Bright New Dawn, who finished in front of Felix Yonger at Clonmel, is 10U; Hidden Cyclone 1F1.
The stats say that, unless he’s won the race before, no horse takes this over the age of eight, and Days Hotel has been beaten by Felix Yonger, Hidden Cyclone and Twinlight in the last 13 months.
Hidden Cyclone won the Fortria here in November, when Twinlight unseated and Bright New Dawn pulled up but today’s heavy ground is against him.
Bright New Dawn was beaten out of sight by Felix Yonger over 2m 4f on the course in March but was just in front of him over the same longer trip at Clonmel recently in a Grade 2.
‘New Dawn’ was a top hurdler and top novice chaser, and has a brighter chance here, back to 2m 1f, but all the aids furniture – tongue-tie and hood – symbolizes trainer Gordon Elliott’s frustration, and I prefer Felix Yonger.
REBLIS READY FOR THIRD SUSSEX NATIONAL
1.50 Plumpton (Sussex National) The last two winners – Reblis and Leg Iron – clash in this small field.
Reblis (3.8 on BETDAQ early mouse), who has won it twice, is 8lb lower than when he scored last time, loves the mud and was back to form with a decent prep run over hurdles at Lingfield recently.
Leg Iron also likes soft-heavy ground, and has won after a break before, but his stable is currently out of form, whereas the local Reblis yard of Gary Moore had six winners in a row at the start of the month.
Buckhorn Tom and No Through Road were both penalized 7lb for scoring in January and have not carried it well. But both are back within a pound of their winning mark now.
DAAD’S DAY BUT A TOUGH ONE FOR POPPY
2.00 Wolverhampton Good luck to teenager Poppy Bridgwater, who rode her only winner for father David Bridgwater in July.
Dad has set her an enormous task on Collodi – far bigger than the 5.2 offers on BETDAQ – if the stats are any guide.
Collodi has not won since August 2014 (16 races and nearly 16 months ago) and that was in a hurdle race.
But that’s nothing to dad David’s record at Wolver. According to the Racing Post, he’s raced 80 horses there in the last 3,556 days without a winner, which is getting on for 10 years now.
Trainer Bridgwater, who has had only one AW winner this season, is currently missing strike badly, so near and yet so far, the bridesmaid without a bouquet with form figures of 2222 (one of them Collodi), Flat and jumps in the last fortnight.
Rarely are horses at this level capable of putting back-to-back wins together but Estibdaad has done so twice this year already, including one win for today’s rider, all four of them on AW.
So it’s likely to be daad’ s not dad’s day, as Estibdaad goes for a third double after scoring at Lingfield, yet is 11.5 in the BETDAQ orange.
PALLADIUM SHOULD PUT ON A GOOD SHOW
2.10 Ffos Las Four of these are using letters not numbers for their form-figures: down the card, Bob Ford is PPP, Wychwoods Brook PF, African Gold FPPP and Dark Glacier PPPP0.
It’s never easy to dismiss even the subjects of these dismal tales of ownership nightmare. So many wasted journeys to the track; fruitless polishing of the binoculars and buying the new hat.
Bob Ford and Dark Glacier have both won on heavy at ffos Las and Wychwoods Brook has won a Grade 2 at Haydock in the mud.
But form and class are the only ways to bet: Royal Palladium has the form – three in a row last year – and the class: drops down from Listed and class-2 level. I took 3.75.
