7-2 HIT! THAT’S 32 WINNERS IN JULY: Daqman is still going strong. Another winner yesterday puts him on 32 for the 24 days of July. Daqman built a very strong case for Alflaila on trainer form, age allowance and ability for the grade. Yet he started at 7-2.
WON 7-2 ALFLAILA
A GLORIOUS TIME FOR BETDAQ VALUE: Daqman hopes for plenty more where that came from, with Glorious Goodwood and Galway stepping up the quality. Today he previews the top seven races of the week.
FREE TILT AT BAAEED CONFIRMED
⭕ 3.35 Tuesday, Goodwood (Goodwood Cup) Stradivarius without Frankie! The truth is that his jockey tomorrow, Andrea Atzeni, has the perfect Goodwood Cup record on him (2-2), whereas Dettori was 2-2 but was beaten last year by Trueshan, who takes him on again.
Trueshan also beat Stradivarius and Dettori in the French Gold Cup (Prix du Cadran) and the British Champions Long Distance Cup of 2021, and Stradivarius comes to this race today only third behind Kyprios in the Ascot Gold Cup.
In fact, Stradivarius has lost 11 times under Dettori but it’s the eight-year-old’s 20 victories we prefer to remember. Have we seen the last?
⭕ 3.35 Wednesday, Goodwood (Sussex Stakes) Andrew Balding won this last year with Alcohol Free, who was back in the big time, dropped down to 6f in the July Cup.
The 2,000 Guineas winner, Coroebus, misses the ‘Duel On The Downs’ due to a late injury concern but Alcohol Free was last night confirmed as a runner to make the double bid. Standing in the way, of course, is the remarkable Baaeed bidding to extend his perfect record to nine.
⭕ 6.40 Wednesday, Galway (Galway Plate) Weight warning! Last year’s winner was only the second horse to carry 11st or more this century, and only one horse of double-figure age has scored since 1996.
⭕ 3.35 Thursday, Goodwood (Nassau Stakes) Three-year-olds have won seven out of the last 10 but second-season Classic animals took a huge knock when they trailed in behind five-year-old Pyledriver in the King George.
If there’s a three-year-old winner of this, it’s usually trained by John Gosden, who will saddle French Oaks heroine Nashwa, or Aidan O’Brien (chooses from Concert Hall and History).
⭕ 5.05 Thursday, Galway (Galway Hurdle) Willie Mullins has trained four of the last six winners of this but only one of them was favourite. Tony Martin (three in eight seasons) is next best.
⭕ 3.00 Friday, Goodwood (Golden Mile) Does the draw matter at Goodwood? You bet! Seven of the last eight winners of this big field mile came out of stalls 1 to 5.
⭕ 3.20 Saturday, Goodwood (Stewards Cup) Which side will the winner come from in the big sprint? Low numbers (1 twice, 3 and 4 twice) have won in the decade but so, too, have stalls 22, 23, 25 and 26, with 17 the odd one out.
GALWAY + WELD – SUPERNAP
⭕ 6.10 Galway It’s a mixed start to the Galway Festival today – and that’s mixed in the sense of quality as well as there being jumps and flat action to look forward to.
Dermot Weld PLUS Galway usually equals success and he can make an early strike here in the 6.10 with Tiverton who races in the Juddmonte colours.
The youngster made a pleasing start to his career when a three quarter of a length second to Proud And Regal at the Curragh last month and that form has obviously been given a huge boost when the winner followed up in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown last week and in doing so ending Aidan O’Brien’s domination of that race.
Tiverton looked in need of the race on debut, despite being fancied in the market and with that run behind him should take the world of beating here.
The Betdaq Betting Exchange market revolves around him, Pivotal Trigger and the Aidan O’Brien debutant Cairo who is well entered up but bred to need further in time.
Pivotal Trigger is trained by Jessica Harrington for whom we are told by the Racing Post ‘The stable are flying’. Looks like the writer hasn’t refreshed their stats for a while. They WERE flying but the last 25 runners have been beaten.
THUNDER BALL WINNING NUMBER
⭕ 6.30 Windsor I thought there was a spot of value about Thunder Ball over likely favourite Indestructible.
There was plenty to like about Thunder Ball’s course and distance third two weeks ago – he was doing his best work at the end when the penny dropped and ran better than his 18/1 price tag suggested he might.
Irish raider Indestructible looked a really awkward ride on debut at the Curragh leaning left throughout the race. If those problems have been ironed out, he’s the form choice but you are playing at short odds on the ‘if’ factor.
⭕ 8.40 Windsor Baez represents the David Menuisier stable and is ridden by Benoit De La Sayette who is 5-11 for the yard.
She also looks the form pick having been pipped at Chepstow last time out over this longer trip for the first time.
The handicapper also spotted the improvement and she’s up 3lb but could still be well in over this new distance.
