MONDAY: FIRE CAN JET TO VICTORY
2.30 Plumpton The absence of He’s A Bully has weakened this race significantly and leaves Oliver’s Hill a great opportunity to add to his four career victories. He loves top of the ground winning on firm and good to firm at the tail end of last year and despite a flat performance last time he looks to have strong claims of getting his head in front. He has also previously won at this course and in such a weak race he must have a good chance at 2.82 on BETDAQ.
2.40 Market Rasen Vic’s Last Stand has shown all her best form on a sound surface and is sure to be suited by today’s underfoot conditions. She will have her first run here for Gillian Boanas who has secured the services of Richard Johnson for the first time in her training career, which is a tip in itself. She runs here off 112, a mark that she has finished second with twice in her career and she looks capable of going one better today at 4.1 on BETDAQ.
3.50 Wolverhampton Fire Jet is by a sire that only came into his own as a four year old in Ask and it is hoped that he daughter can follow suit now on her seasonal debut. She is also taking a step up in trip today which looks well worth a try based on her performances last season. Her trainer John Mackie saddled a winner recently so it appears his string is in good health and she looks worth a try under regular rider Tom Queally at 6.2 on BETDAQ.
4.10 Market Rasen Contre Tous had shown a decent level of form in his native France before coming to Paul Nichols’ yard but has reportedly struggled with his breathing on both British starts to date. That wouldn’t usually inspire confidence however it does give hope that he will show improved form for some better ground. His 50 day absence is also probably long enough for a small procedure on his breathing to have been done and with the Champion trainer firing in the winners in the last few days he looks worth a chance at 5.0 on BETDAQ.
