PROFITS STREAK ENDS ON 129 POINTS: Daqman’s three bets were all placed without winning yesterday, a frustrating end to his six consecutive days with a profit (total 129 points). Daqman and Pricewise both had seconds so the score remains Daqman 16, Pricewise 9, with 28 points between them (+18 to -10).

BAGGING THE NAP ON HEAVY TURF

I thought the ground was testing enough at Fontwell yesterday (29 length winner of the National Spirit Hurdle) but Plumpton could be calling and raising the stakes in the desperate ground stakes today.

20mm of rain overnight has changed the going to heavy and only just raceable judged by comments from the clerk of the course who reported ‘some surface water’ earlier today.

Cigarisi is long odds on for the opener but can’t really appeal on softer than he’s faced previously. I’m more than happy to just watch and let him win at those kind of odds.

2.35 Plumpton In the second race I’m keen on the chances of the Gary Moore trained Bagging Turf.

The trainer is five wins from his last 27 runners including a Fontwell treble yesterday and Bagging Turf can continue the good run.

Crucially, she does have a heavy ground win to her name, that came at Sandown last year in another small field race like today.

The downside is that she comes here on the back of a fall at Wincanton. She fell two out (when held) in the race won by Wild West Wind (who also won subsequently) and hopefully she will be none the worse for that escapade. She has cheekpieces fitted for the first time today and appeals most in this five runner contest which is competitive – despite the small entry.

City Supreme was a resolute stayer over hurdles but with a strike rate of only 1-17 means that at the age of 10 he can hardly be backed with confidence on his belated chasing debut.

4.55 Wolverhampton Atkinson Grimshaw should land the Wolverhampton maiden at 4.55.  Jockey Oisin Murphy has done well since his return from Hong Kong and Atkinson Grimshaw can build on two promising runs on the turf at Salisbury and Bath.

It would be disappointing if he wasn’t good enough to account for Avantgardist who was a well beaten fourth at Newcastle last time out.

5.15 Ayr It’s also going to be a slog at Ayr this afternoon and the previous experience of Dunly might count for plenty in the closing bumper.

His form is nothing special – second in bumpers at Newcastle and here at Ayr but they have come on soft ground and this will develop into a stamina test.

Trainer Mark Johnston has a rare bumper runner in Golden Jeffrey who looks set to go off favourite after a fair debut third at Catterick.  However, that form looked nothing better than what Dunly has achieved and we are getting around 5.0 compared to 2.24 on BETDAQ.

DAQMAN’S BETS (as advised)
BET 10pts win (nap) (to win 20) BAGGING TURF 2.35 Plumpton)
BET 8pts win ATKINSON GRIMSHAW (4.55 Wolverhampton)
BET 5pts win (to win 20) DUNLY (5.15 Ayr)
