ALL YOU NEED FROM DAQMAN: Today and tomorrow, Daqman reveals his Hot Spots as he goes winner-finding at the highest level. Then look out for form assessments of the weekend big races.

PLUMPTON NAP: Daqman has three bets to kick off the new week with a nap at Plumpton.

SILVER CUP PLAN IN THE RAIN

Trainers must have three major skills! Training the horses; that goes without saying. But he needs to know what kind of horse he’s got: a speed merchant or a stayer? And what races at what level on which kind of track should he be aimed at?

Needing just nine winners for the 100, attention is clearly focused on Dan Skelton, and the teamwork and jockeyship that goes into the three skills.

Dan’s attention is clearly on the big prizes, as he builds a bigger and bigger lead over his rivals (with Willie Mullins still waiting in the wings), and now needs just £10k for the £2million mark.

With all this in mind, the way he deals with one of this week’s big races and the way he lays bare his plans for one of his Cheltenham Festival hopes is eyecatching.

Saturday’s Silver Cup (3m) at Ascot has only one Skelton entry, despite a tempting £57,000 to the winner. Compare with Ben Pauling who has three, Paul Nicholls two.

The Skelton runner is Joyeux Machin, which features in his stable tours. Of the eight-year-old, he says: needs three miles; wants it softer.

Joyeux Machin has had just the one three-mile chase, good to soft, ridden by an apprentice. Clearly the forecast rain and Harry Skelton taking over should be worth waiting for.

I shall update the Hot Spots horses to follow tomorrow. One of them will be Fortune De Mer, who won at Cheltenham last week.

After the race, Skelton openly used his skill and judgment, declaring: needs more successes to get into the County Hurdle in March. Hot Spots will let you know when.

NAP TO BOSS IT

⭕ 1.00 Plumpton Small fields blight the Plumpton card today with only the final race getting into double digits. The training pair of Gary and Josh Moore may again mop up some of the prize money after the farcical race at Lingfield on Saturday when the duo saddled all three of the runners in the beginner’s chase.

They were scheduled to have three runners here today but it’s down to two after Angel’s Dream (2.30) was declared a non runner after disappointing at Lingfield on Saturday.

Their best hope now looks to be The Boss Bear who was impressive when winning a Fontwell bumper by seven lengths in May and connections have chosen this race for his hurdling debut as opposed to a more competitive event at Newbury on Wednesday for which he also holds an entry.

Obvious danger looks to the the likely Betdaq Betting Exchange
second favourite Manigod who was second over course and distance on his hurdling debut at Plumpton but it looked a weak event.

BREAKING THE CODE

⭕ 3.12 Lingfield King’s Code is the form horse here who bids for a hat-trick after wins at Kempton and Chelmsford but both were only by neck margins and he’s now up another 4lb. That tempers enthusiasm plus the fact he has disappointed here before.

Whitcombe Rockstar was only a length and a quarter behind King’s Code at Chelmsford and the revised terms gives him an excellent chance of reversing the form. That’s BEFORE you even factor in that he met trouble in the run in that race. He has a solid 5-12 record on the all-weather.

MONTY IN COMMAND

⭕ 7.30 Wolverhampton The lightly raced Monty Beau could be the answer here from what looks a more than fair starting handicap mark of 72.

He has shown all-weather ability in three starts at Lingfield and Newcastle and should be capable of further improvement.

His rivals look firmly in the grip of the handicapper – Serious Look might be the biggest threat to build on his course and distance second last time out.
