DAQMAN FIRING IN NATIONAL WEEK: He’s On Fire (WON 3-1) yesterday! Not a winning day but back to winning ways for Daqman .. and it’s Grand National week! Daqman named the Irish National winner last year and had the 1-2-3 in Saturday’s Aintree Grand National.

WHISPERS FOR 20-1 WINNER

⭕ 5.00 Fairyhouse (Irish Grand National) Last year’s winner of this, Haiti Couleurs, could double up, one season on, in Saturday’s Aintree Grand National, as did Bobbyjo (1998), Numbersixvalverde (2005) and I Am Maximus (2023).

Haiti Couleurs followed six other wins by Brits in this Fairyhouse marathon since Desert Orchid (1990). Today’s English raiders below have named trainers in brackets:

The Jukebox Kid (Ben Pauling): Reynoldstown novices romp in February. Inexperienced but one of the higher ratings suppressed by top-weight Better Days Ahead.

‘Days’ was sixth last year after a gruelling Cheltenham but this time around has been lightly raced with today in mind. Now it’s all down to 7lb-claiming amateur Rob James.

‘Days’ should not be confused with one of five J P McManus plays, Better Times Ahead. The Porterstown winner over today’s CD followed up with a head second in the Thyestes chase but that has him hiked a stone.

A better McManus bet may be Showurappreciation (pictured below), a stunning improver after two years off the track, injured.

Mark Walsh rides, switching from Waterford Whispers, the Leopardstown Chase third and sole starter for Henry De Bromhead under Darragh O’Keeffe. This one’s pedigree more than whispers; it shouts stamina.

One Big Bang (James Owen): consistent but has tried a stamina test just the once, weakening at the finish of the National Hunt chase at Cheltenham for third. Champion Sean Bowen rides.

Monbeg Genius (Jonjo O’Neill) has recently run fifth in the Welsh National and third in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham but is 10 now and there have been only three winners of a double-figure age this century.

Kiss Will, the choice of Paul Townend, weakened at the last in the Golden Miller at Cheltenham, after running up to Soldier In Milan at Punchestown in February, following Soldier’s fourth to C’Est Ta Chance at Gowran in January.

That collateral form puts them all of a heap but Soldier In Milan is from the family of Grand National second, Oscar Time.

Shanbally Kid won a near-4m handicap at Punchestown last Spring but was punished with a 14lb rise.

Not fluent, fourth in the Leinster National at Naas in March, when Harry Cobden’s ride today, Goraibhmaithagat (full brother to a Killarney National winner) was second and Sa Majeste third.

The grey Argento Boy (Sean O’Keeffe) is a stayer, too, but may want more cut in the ground. So, too, Joystick, who was down the field in the Brown Advisory.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 10.0 The Jukebox Kid, 11.0 Showurappreciation, 21 Waterford Whispers, 22 Better Days Ahead.

THE SEA SHALL HAVE THEM

⭕ 2.55 Kempton Gethin goes well fresh and Devil’s Advocate, down the field in the Champion Stakes, is top rated here with race conditions in his favour.

But Andrew Balding thinks a lot of Plage De Havre, dropped back in trip and could come late under Oisin Murphy. Needs a pace race.

⭕ 4.25 Plumpton (Sussex National) Young horses win this and there’s one well weighted and from a stable in great form this year.

Sea Invasion has Sam Twiston–Davies up for Anthony Honeyball, aimed at this since back-to-back Plumpton strikes last Spring.
