CHARLIE’S GRAND PRIX SAVES THE DAY: Went lame. Beaten in a photo. That’s just two of the frustrating results yesterday if you were playing up Daqman’s 28.0 Ebor triumph, including at a rain-soaked Goodwood, where the ground changed from good to soft to heavy. But he was spot on in the Grand Prix De Deauville with Charlie Appleby’s raider, Loxley (WON 7-5).

THE LIFE OF RILEY WITH BETDAQ VALUE! Today Daqman looks at the better-quality racing on a slim-line Bank Holiday in England at Epsom and Ripon

NIP IN FOR A 12.5 NORTHERN RAIDER

3.05 Epsom David Barron, Tim Easterby and John Quinn have pinched this handicap for the North in three of the last five years.

Now here’s Mick Easterby with 12.5 BETDAQ offer Carlton Frankie, running quickly after Doncaster recently, and only once previously this far south in his 14-race career.

Four-year-olds have won four of the last six of this sprint handicap and he’s their sole representative today. This level of sprinter wins only in his turn and Mick must think that Frankie is spot on.

Blue De Vega was in the mood when he scored at Ascot in July, his first success since almost three years ago when winning as a juvenile in Ireland.

Boom The Groom has had 21 straight defeats, and Pettochside needs more rain. Bahamian Sunrise won over the Epsom CD in April but is out of the handicap today.

SORRY, I TOOK THE 11.0 BEFORE YOU

3.25 Ripon (Billy Nevett Memorial) The draw seems pretty decisive in this sprint. The last six winners came out of 2 (four times) and 4 (twice).

Militia (from the one stall) was beaten here in May and his two wins this year have both come after a longish break (61 days and 182 days), not the three weeks as now.

Me Before You (out of gate two), and 10.0 on BETDAQ as I write, is 312 at Ripon and, though generally unreliable, it has to be said that David O’Meara’s grey is a stone better with Daffy Jane (stall three today), who beat her little more than a length here July.

MOUR! ALL SET FOR A DERBY DOUBLE

3.40 Epsom (Amateurs’ Derby) Jamie Codd (Je Suis Charlie) and Simon Walker (C’est No Mour) have won this in the last two seasons.

C’Est No Mour is just 3lb higher than when taking the prize in 2017 as part of four wins out of six, and is back down to his last winning mark today.

Medalia De Oro remains high in the handicap after just missing out the last twice at Yarmouth and Haydock. He needs to lose half a stone (don’t we all).

Sequence horse this time around is Pretty Jewel (four from five), a winner the last twice at Goodwood so this track should hold no terrors.

But it doesn’t work out like that between Brighton and Epsom for Roy Rocket, as might be supposed: six wins on the seaside track but 30030 here at Epsom.

Country‘n’western has won an amateurs’ race recently for David Elsworth (three wins in six days).

Top and bottom of the handicap is an old adage (which I got from a man who bought my old jacket at a jumble sale): so 5.0 C’Est No Mour and 8.6 Country’n’western.

5.4 BETDAQ VALUE IN THE GOOD LIFE

4.00 Ripon (Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy) The one stall has won this five times in the last eight years, with the winners by draw: 12111614.

The front three in the market have won nine times out of 10, and Life of Riley (from gate 3) must surely go close after his second in the Molecomb at Glorious Goodwood

Neverland Rock (stall 2 today) was a length in front of Sporting Chance (now in the one stall) when they ran in the Richmond Stakes at the same Goodwood meeting

Kessaar ‘broke loose’ in a hood, winning 10 lengths at Windsor. Will it work again; and can he beat the Group form? I prefer Life Of Riley (BETDAQ 5.4) because of his draw and because he’s returning to the scene of his maiden success.

WAARIF IS A PROVEN RIPON WARRIOR

4.35 Ripon (Rowels) The draw bias appears to continue. Winners by stall in the last seven years 2424451.

Rain would further boost the chances of Borderforce (stall 3) and Mikmak (in the one spot), though Mikmak, Waarif, Just Hiss and Hayadh are all of a heap on their recent form in the same race here at Ripon 10 days ago when Waarif had the best of the draw in four with the there others fighting a losing battle from 10, 11 and 12.

Waarif’s been lucky again with stall 2, trainer David O’Meara does well in this race and his CD win on that last day came after missing the break (not like him at all): 5.9 on BETDAQ
