SAMA AGAIN FOR PAULING
⭕ 4.40 Southwell Just the five runners in the finale and it gives the Ben Pauling trained Samazul the chance to regain the winning thread.
The current form of the trainer is certainly a big factor in selecting him. Pauling is now seven winners from his last 26 runners.
Samazul won on debut here in a bumper and now starts life in handicap company over hurdles in a very weak heat.
There was plenty of encouragement from his latest run at Newbury when he was staying on in the second half of the race to finish an eye-catching fifth in a far superior class 3 event.
He’s two rungs down the class ladder and starts handicapping off a mark of 98 which doesn’t look too harsh.
The Betdaq Betting Exchange market is pretty much suggesting it is a match between him and Joker Du Chenet who has been well beaten in all six of his starts so far and is already looking as though he needs a drop in the weights. If supporting him, you will be looking towards the change of stable to James Owen as being a positive.
Of the others only the lightly raced Arabescato makes any kind of appeal. A five-time winner on the flat he was by no means disgraced when a 66/1 fourth last time out over course and distance.
HAS THE BIRD FLOWN?
⭕ 4.52 Plumpton I was keen to take on Birdman Bob who won over course and distance in November but has been beaten in five starts since having had the misfortune to slip up and unseat rider in two runs since here.
Admittedly he was going well before unseating last time out but doesn’t have the sort of profile that screams out to me back him at a short price.
Mi Sueno made all to win easily at Fakenham last time out and on similar soft ground might take some pegging back.
It was a weak race (a seller) but he was in good heart winning by 13 lengths and could easily get into a good rhythm if allowed to stride on by Rob Hargreaves.
HAVA ANOTHER WIN
⭕ 7.30 Wolverhampton It gets no better than this class 4 event at Wolverhampton tonight but Havanazam can make a bold bid of making it 4-4 at the track and follow up his success last month where he won going away over the same trip .
He looks a resolute stayer and even though, inevitably, the handicapper has had his say with an extra 5lb he still makes more appeal than Artisan Dancer who has been kept plenty busy of late and Mallwood who needs to bounce back from a poor effort last time out at Lingfield where he finished last of nine.
