HOW TO BOOST YOUR WINNINGS

Social distancing among the horses? Is that how you account for the low number of acceptors in championship races on the first two days of Cheltenham?

Or is it just that they are flight animals, when facing supposed giants like Appreciate It and Shishkin (Tuesday), Monkfish and Chacun Pour Soi (Wednesday)?

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve said this isn’t a normal season/year and I’ve re/rescheduled my betting methods, and – like the news of tomorrow’s opening – we have seen the weather change for the good only for a deluge of rain to change it back again to soft.

TOMORROW: I’ll give you a race-by-race check on all routes to winner-finding: Stats, Ratings, Trainer form, Key races, Form and Facts, with Win and Place selections based on BETDAQ value. Don’t forget: CHELTENHAM 0% COMMISSION ON BETDAQ

LAYS LOGIC: My latest innovation, trying to hark bark to the days of 16 successful Daqman lays in a row at Cheltenham, now faces the challenge: can we oppose the favourites when horses and trainers won’t?

We’re certainly restricted by small fields but we’ll just have to be more selective than ever.

Current score: 1-1.

VALUE CHALLENGE: The same goes for value hunting. Daqman and Pricewise (Racing Post), both, will be looking for ‘hidden’ or less exposed horses, but they are not easily buried when runners are reduced.

Current score: Daqman 28, Pricewise 17. To 10-point stakes: Daqman 639.93, Pricewise 354.41.

STAKING PLANS: The Daqman way is to increase stakes according to chances of success. So you will see tips staked to various targets: to win 10 points, 20, 30 or 50. Join the professionals with this money-making trick:

BOOST THE VALUE: Decide on the price you want for each horse in a race. Imagine you are shopping (you are!)

You are ready to ‘buy’ 4.0, 7.0, 9.0, 11.0, 13.0 the front five horses in the race by your reckoning, but the offers are 3.0, 11.0, 6.0, 11.0, 13.0.

You want to pounce on horse No 2 at 11.0 (which is 10-1); you think he’s four points bigger than your estimated odds of 7.0 or 6-1. If you are betting to win 30 points, you need a stake of three points at the 11.0.

You would have needed five points at the 6-1 you estimated, so you are lucky to get away with staking three instead of five, right? Wrong.

Stick to your opinion and make more money by investing your ORIGINAL stake of five points at the improved offers of 11.0. Now you’ll get a return (winnings + stake) of 5 x 10 + 5 = 55 instead of 3 x 10 = 30 + 3 = 33).

DON’T CHASE YOUR LOSSES: Keep within your staking guidelines and the value offers as you see them. Losing? Then stop. Winning? Then don’t give it all away.

Something goes wrong like yours falls at the last when in the lead? It happens to the best and it happens to the rest.

You are not phased because you have your staking plan. You know it’s not the winners you miss but the winners you back that count.

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

⭕ 1.00 Stratford There hasn’t been anything like the same level of overnight rain at Stratford (3mm) that has hit Cheltenham (10mm) but we will still need to find soft ground specialists with it soft on the chase course.

It’s a day for keeping the powder dry for obvious reasons but it’s also a day that’s not uncommon to see a few gambles struck as punters get their betting boots on ahead of the Festival. Keep an eye out on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE markets.

This 2m 1f chase might be the perfect opportunity for Shut The Box to gain a much deserved first chase win after a string of placed efforts.

Several have those have come in much better company including last time out at Newbury where he finished second to Editeur Du Gite in a class 3.

He drops to class 4 level today and might be able to see off chief market rival Kap Auteuil who looks harshly treated with 12lb extra for his Fakenham win last month.

He might have won by 19 lengths but the race fell apart with only three finishers from the seven that set out. It was also a lower class 5 race and I’d don’t think the form amounts to much at all.

VULCAN TO SWOOP

⭕ 2.10 Taunton Vulcan can hopefully set us up nicely for Cheltenham week by landing the nap.

He was useful enough on the flat with two wins at Haydock to his name but made a very pleasing hurdling debut behind none other than Tritonic at Ascot. That one now heads the betting for the Triumph this week, so even though Vulcan was beaten 19 lengths by him it still looks smart form in the context of this modest race.

Vulcan’s trainer Dr Richard Newland has had two winners from his last three runners and can boost that stat further by taking this at the chief expense of Iron Mike (pulled up in better company at Exeter last time out) and debutant Tulin who is hard to assess on hurdling debut and only ran on the flat in France.

⭕ 6.20 Wolverhampton The final pre-Cheltenham bet is International Law who was a close course and distance third last Monday and shouldn’t need to do much more than repeat that effort in this lower class 6.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 4.1pts win SHUT THE BOX (1.00 Stratford)
BET 10.0pts win (nap) VULCAN (2.10 Taunton)
BET 5.5pts win INTERNATIONAL LAW (6.20 Wolverhampton)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
