JUST A NUGGET (7.0 WINNER) BUT SO CLOSE TO 83-1 GOLD STRIKE: With only yards to go in the Coral Scottish Grand National, after Dingo Dollar had jumped the last clear, it was 5-1 ON that Daqman would land an 83-1 BETDAQ big-race double (39-1 at SP). He had 7.0 the Newbury Spring Cup winner going on to 12.0 Dingo Dollar, who was beaten less than a length at 1.2 in running.

WON 4-1 NUGGET (from 7.0 BETDAQ) Newbury Spring Cup
2ND 7-1 DINGO DOLLAR (from 12.0 BETDAQ) Coral Scottish Grand National

HOW TO RATE THE CLASSIC TRIAL WINNERS IN DAQMAN THIS WEEK: See how they won; then rate what you’ve seen with your own eyes. That’s the Daqman master plan for the Classics, starting with the Guineas at the beginning of May. Don’t miss his classic previews this week.

GUINEAS TIPS: SEE HOW THEY WON

Do they rate that good? The Richard Hannon pair Snow Lantern and Chindit won their trials yesterday and were both cut in the BETDAQ Sportsbook for their respective Guineas at Newmarket at the beginning of May.

Snow Lantern (1,000) won only a maiden – the opener at Newbury – and Chindit (2,000) landed the Greenham Stakes by just a neck and a neck.

Andrew Balding’s Alcohol Free, an even narrower winner, by a short-head, in the Fred Darling Stakes, was also reduced in price for the 1,000 Guineas.

Punters are anxious to find something – anything – to avoid having to back the Aidan O’Brien favourite, Santa Barbara (BETDAQ 2.86), in the 1,000, seemingly no value at all.

But how can we tell? It’s important to try to ‘get a line’ not only for your Classic bets but also to measure the quality of all three-year-old colts and fillies that could start at very backable odds in other less publicised events.

We have to begin by putting the slide-rule on the races they’ve won. Some so-called Classic pointers are duds from the start as they represent nothing but hype.

So we’ll start this week with See How They Won, a guide to where the Classic winners come from. We need to know where we’re going with this, as Punchestown the following week will take up a lot of our time.

MAKING THE POINT AGAIN

⭕ 2.00 Pontefract The form book isn’t too much help for this race – there aren’t too many 2m 5f races on the flat!

We have to look at a combination of jumps and flat form but also factor in that it’s good to firm ground with most of the recent form coming on a softer surface.

It’s a race though where you can very quickly put a red line through many with big stamina doubts and at the top end of the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE market this would include, for me, Red Tornado third over a shorter trip here two weeks ago but seemed to struggle near the end and Warranty who ran very disappointingly over hurdles at Hereford last time out and is hard to back with any conviction today.

The safest bet could be the only course and distance winner Wemyss Point who won this very race back in 2018. It was good to soft that day (so there are really no stamina doubts) but he also has winning form on good ground and arrives here in reasonable form from the all-weather.

SISKANY ANOTHER FOR APPLEBY

⭕ 3.10 Windsor A class 5 officially but in reality looks far better than that given the representatives from the top yards.

Siskany has achieved the most so far and rates the days nap for Charlie Appleby – currently operating at an impressive 5 winners from his last 20 runners – or 4 from the last 6 if you prefer!

After a promising debut at Sandown, Siskany followed up with a good win at Kempton where he was fast out of the stalls and stayed on really powerfully over the mile trip. The step up to ten furlongs should prove ideal for the son of Dubawi.

Sir Michael Stoute runs Beating All whose debut Kempton win last year was made to look smarter yesterday when the runner-up won at Newbury and from another stable in good form he looks the danger.

REASONS TO LOVE VALENTINE

⭕ 4.15 Windsor Major Valentine has hardly been setting the world alight but there was promise last time out at Wolverhampton and crucially she returns to the turf on a mark 21lb lower than when she was last seen here in the autumn. Hollie Doyle is an obvious positive jockey booking.

The handicapper has given her a real chance and this doesn’t look too tough. Hat-trick seeking Twice As Likely comes here in good form on the all-weather but looks too short and Pastfact has never shown his best form after a break.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 2.8pts win WEMYSS POINT (2.00 Pontefract)
BET 6.1pts win (nap) SISKANY (3.10 Windsor)
BET 2.0pts win MAJOR VALENTINE (4.15 Windsor)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
