CLASS-ACT FILLY WINS ROBERT PAPIN: Daqman had ‘the word’ about a two-year-old filly, Ramatuelle, at around 10-11 on BETDAQ for Chantilly yesterday and she duly landed a gamble (SP 2-5) over the colts by four lengths in the Prix Robert Papin.

DAQMAN SPOTS TOP TWO-YEAR-OLDS: Now look out as Daqman builds his list of ratings for the top two-year-olds, a list which last year had four Classic winners for 2023 right at the top.

Tomorrow: Fortune Cookies

STAR START TO DAQMAN RATINGS

GET ahead of the game! Daqman’s ratings for 2022 put you wise to the Classic winners for 2023.

And, as last year, you can join him, well prepared, for the juvenile trials, looking forward with the new crop of two-year-olds to the stars of the Guineas and Derbys of 2024.

He’s already marked your card, yesterday naming Ramatuelle as ‘another top filly’ in the hoofprints of Guineas winners. Result: she beat the colts four lengths at Chantilly.

She is, in fact, another Christopher Head filly following one of Daqman’s finds of this season, Blue Rose Cen, scorer twice for Fortune Cookies.

The Group-1 2yo tests don’t start until September, when portents are powerful from the Cheveley Park and Fillies Mile and, for the colts, from the Dewhurst and the Futurity.

The Dewhurst is on a hat-trick of Guineas winners, following Native Trail and Chaldean, but how did they reach that stage?

Chaldean won the Acomb at York (August) and the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster (September). See how they won, keeping track of the top two-year–olds to get big winners for later in the season.

Stars of the future also appear in recognised quality maidens in England and Ireland. Examples this week:

⭕ 5.20 Killarney today, won in 2018 by Anthony Van Dyck, Epsom Derby winner the following year
⭕ 2.25 Newbury, Friday, won last year by Chaldean, subsequent winner of the 2,000 Guineas.

This is how Daqman’s 2022 list ended up as ratings last November for the 2023 Classic season:

Colts
124 LITTLE BIG BEAR Aidan O’Brien; by No Nay Never
120 CHALDEAN Andrew Balding; by Frankel
119 AUGUSTE RODIN Aidan O’Brien; by Deep Impact
Fillies
118 TAHIYRA Dermot Weld; by Siyouni

These four were winners of the Epsom Derby, Irish Derby, Newmarket 2,000 Guineas, Irish 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes and Sandy Lane Stakes.

I start my 2023 list in time for Goodwood and York, and complete it after the Lagardere at the Arc meeting.

As well as Ramatuelle, the first publication is likely to contain Saturday’s Superlative winner, City Of Troy, but those who backed him for the 2,000 Guineas at 2-1 after the race are not getting a fair shake from their psychiatrist.

EY UP IT’S THREE UP

⭕ 4.55 Ayr Ey Up Its Jazz loves some juice in the ground and can complete his hat-trick after a short break.

The Tony Coyle trained runner went back to back in the spring with wins at Leicester and Thirsk and the form of those races has worked out well since with both runner-ups going on to win.

It’s a hugely competitive seven furlong handicap with dangers including My Roxanne – yet to win on turf but continuing to run consistently.

MANX HAS X FACTOR

⭕ 8.00 Wolverhampton What else could the handicapper do with Manxman after his first three efforts?

Nov 2022 13th of 14 beaten 24 lengths
May 2023 12th of 13 beaten 44 lengths
Jun 2023 10th of 10 beaten 30 lengths

A starting mark of 46 seemed fair enough (some may even say harsh!) for his handicap debut at Windsor two weeks ago and he duly made a mockery of it when winning by over four lengths.

Connections attributed the improvement in form to the step up in trip (1m 3f) and the even longer trip here (1m 6f) is likely to suit even better.

In a modest race the Simon and Ed Crisford trained runner is likely to shrug off the 10lb hike in the weights.

AVOID TIFFANY

⭕ 8.40 Windsor Tiffany will have plenty of supporters given she is representing Sir Mark Prescott and bidding to follow up her Wolverhampton win from June.

She has also raced since. In the race at Wolverhampton where Dane O’Neil took a crashing fall soon after the start and the race was declared void as he needed medical attention on the track. Thankfully O’Neill is expected to make a full recovery after sustaining fractured ribs and vertebrae in that incident.

Given the race was stopped it’s very hard to say what would have happened but Tiffany, who was sent off the 3/1 favourite, didn’t appear to be travelling too well at the time and might well have struggled to defy her starting handicap mark of 72. She races off the same level tonight.

She also faces a rival in top form in the shape of Absolute Queen from the in form stable of George Boughey who have sent over five winners from their last 16 runners.

Absolute Queen is bidding for a hat-trick after wins Bath and here at Windsor last time out where she was probably value for more than the official neck winning margin having spent much of the race in the waiting room waiting for the gaps to appear.

She’s up 3lb but looks a value alternative to the Betdaq Betting Exchange favourite in an interesting finale..
