GO WITH THE ‘FLO’ IN DECEMBER GOLD CUP: Daqman takes an early position on Saturday’s big race at Cheltenham with the 15.0 offers on BETDAQ about David Pipe’s Saint Flo. He also finds a Christmas box!
‘FLO’ BIG AT 15.0 AND THERE’S AN ANTE-POST CHRISTMAS (CHATTER) BOX
Saint Flo Subject of a punt into 10-1 with one of the big firms, but you could get 40% better odds about Salut Flo for Saturday’s December Gold Cup, if you took BETDAQ offers of 15.0 this morning.
The Cheltenham race is an obvious target for David Pipe’s course-and-distance winner at the Festival last March in the Byrne Group Plate.
Chatterbox Though Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old was short of work, he was the ’moral’, beaten four-and-a-half lengths, giving 10lb to the winner, in the Gerry Feilden last month.
Chatterbox has had only five outings in his entire racing life – beat My Tent Or Yours a year ago – and the Neptune fourth to The New One looks overpriced in the Ladbroke Hurdle (December 21) at 14-1.
Sir Des Champs Sir Des Champs’ jumping let him down again at Punchestown on Sunday, though in fact it was the first time he has fallen and won the stiffer test, the Punchestown Gold Cup, in April.
Sir Des must now get back on the Cheltenham Gold Cup trail – second to Bobs Worth last year – and will surely take in the Lexus (Leopardstown, December 28) or the King George on Boxing Day to erase Sunday from his memory.
Though still 10-1 in a place, and only 12-1 with Ladbrokes, he was 42.0 for Kempton on BETDAQ this morning. Are layers on the exchange wrong to assume that he won’t go there? Trainer Willie Mullins will decide on the venue in the next couple of days.
TODAY’S RACING: LIONS ARCH AT BIG OFFERS FOR HIS COMEBACK
LINGFIELD Hayley Turner was quickly back to form with a 3-2-1 run up to her first win back, fourth ride after injury at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
Both places – second and third on Friday – were at Lingfield, and she can go one better back there today on Soul Intent (2.30), a scorer over CD first time in a handicap in June. I took 3.65 this morning.
It’s nearly 20 years since Richard Hannon won the Lincoln with an 87-rated. Lions Arch (on 85 back after injury) is a Doncaster mile winner who is sure to be seen on Town Moor n a decent handicap in the Spring. Broke his maiden on today’s CD and was ‘big’ at 8.0 this morning.
MUSSELBURGH Katachenko (3.20) runs in a bumper which Don McCain has made his own (2-2). High hopes of this one when he goes hurdling and ready to score for the stable, first run since bought from Ireland.
Divers (2.20), once a dual winner on the track for McCain, continued out of sorts on his return at Sedgefield. Irish raider Strongpoint will test them all from the front but hasn’t lasted out to win a race for three years now.
Ueuetoetl disposed of Merchant Of Dubai over today’s course and distance a month ago, appreciating the step up in trip and a strong gallop will suit.
WOLVERHAMPTON Jaladee (5.10) has won only a modest maiden but that was only the third run for this Cape Cross gelding who has bags of scope and faces exposed opposition.
His handler, Roger Varian, currently with a 60% strike rate, is getting 100% from his horses, according to the Racing Post’s Trainerspot, which shows his current form figures as 11212.
