BRUSH WITH BIG-RACE GLORY: Daqman won’t change his methods, even though he hasn’t always had the luck lately. But at least he had a saver on the big-race winner yesterday, and now looks forward to the Arc de Triomphe on Sunday.

Sunday’s Irish Cesarewitch
WON 7-2 THE EUPHRATES
4th 5-1 NURBURGRING (stopped in his run)

Saturday’s Newmarket Cambridgeshire
2nd 28-1 TOIMY SON (slowly away)
WON 6-4 LAKE VICTORIA (Cheveley Park Fortune Cookie)

ARC UNDER THE MICROSCOPE: Starting today, Daqman sets the scene for the Arc. Tomorrow and all the week: the top 12 runners in Sunday’s big race with comparative form, ratings and analysis.

AUGUSTE RODIN ON ARC STANDBY

UPDATE: Auguste Rodin remains ‘in top gear’ for the Arc de Triomphe in case the ground dries out. He was withdrawn last year but could have run when the going came up fast enough.

A dry week is forecast after ‘a bit of rain’ on Wednesday. Aidan O’Brien will also declare Los Angeles and Continuous.

Also waiting on the ground, but this time wanting ‘ease’, is Ralph Beckett for Bluestocking. Connections must pay €120,000 to supplement her on Wednesday in order to run.

SALUTE THE SERGEANT

⭕ 5.10 Roscommon (Kilbegnet Novice Chase Grade 3) The abandonment of both Windsor and Newton Abbot today means it’s far from a manic Monday but we do have a Grade 3 race to look forward to in Ireland.

It wouldn’t be the best Grade 3 either, so some relatively easy pickings up for grabs, even more so with the defection of Jesse Evans.

He was third to today’s probable Betdaq Betting Exchange favourite Arctic Fly at Killarney in August and went on to win a race at Galway giving the form a boost.

I wasn’t completely sold by Arctic Fly’s win though. I thought she made quite hard work of it and didn’t look the easiest of rides. She needed every yard to get home and (over the same trip today) might do better over further in time.

The main thing that puts me off the Willie Mullins trained runner though is price. She just looks too short in the reformed market.

She has a serious rival on her hands in Thecompanysergeant who has a little more chasing experience under his belt.

He was far from disgraced when a Grade 1 4th at Fairyhouse in March and has followed up with a 221 sequence – getting off the mark over fences last time out at Galway over 2m 2f. He is another that would probably prefer a longer trip but I think he’s a major player on the form book today.

MORE SHAMARDIA PROGRESS

⭕ 5.25 Wolverhampton Shamardia rather lost her way when running in Meydan but the Ismail Mohammed trained runner has done much better recently and could remain well handicapped.

She’s being kept busy this month after a win (at Lingfield on the 5th) and runner-up (also Lingfield on the 14th).

I think further improvement is likely now the penny has dropped and she is up against many rivals here who are struggling for form.

Coconut Bay has her best form over seven furlongs but such is the paucity of opposition she probably still rates as the danger.

WING AND A PRAYER

⭕ 7.00 Wolverhampton Lady Wingalong has a good record on the all-weather of 143 and had excuses when a beaten course and distance favourite after clipping heels and stumbling during the race.

She’s had a break since finishing down the field at Leicester and that could well be a positive. She won at Lingfield in April after a 188 day break.
