NOW FOR THE NATIONAL: It goes quiet now until the Grand National meeting from Thursday, for which Daqman promises more huge prices from BETDAQ. See story below.
PROMISE OF A NATIONAL OUTSIDER
WHO says the Grand National has changed! Every time they modify the fences, year on year in the last 12 years you’ll still find one or more in the first three with SPs of 20-1 (one), 25-1 (five), 33-1 (one), 40-1 (two), 50-1 (one), 66-1 (two) and 100-1 (two).
And we’ve had winners in the decade at 25-1 (two), 33-1, 50-1 and 66-1; only two outright favourites scored with just three favourites placed until last year, then I Am Maximus had the ‘experts’ complaining: the National is just another Gold Cup.
But last year’s reduction of the field from 40 to 34 still had outsiders chasing up the winner: 2nd 28-1, 3rd 28-1, 4th 40-1.
Success at 100-1 comes wide apart: Mon Mome (2009) more than 40 years after Foinavon (1967) but Balko Des Flos (2021) was only about six-lengths second to Minella Times at 100-1 in 2021 after Vics Canvas was 100-1 eight-lengths third to Rule The World in 2016.
Look out for Daqman’s verdict on the Grand National, in which he will nominate an each-way bet at big odds, which he can guarantee on BETDAQ.
I’M ALRIGHT JACK
⭕ 2.15 Wincanton: As much as I want to get National week off to a flyer, I’m not at the front of the queue to back Off To A Flyer who heads the Betdaq Betting Exchange market for the opener.
He was impressive when last seen at Huntingdon when winning over a longer trip on the same good ground expected today but the problem is that ‘last seen’ was 308 days ago and he doesn’t have the best record when reappearing from an absence. He’s also up 6lb and even in a weak race might be vulnerable.
I’m also staying clear of the Paul Nicholls trained Jackpot D’Athou who now has something to prove after pulling up at Uttoxeter when the tacky ground was blamed for the poor run. Odd, given his two career wins have come on soft and heavy, so the switch to good today hardly inspires confidence.
Almost by default the selection has to be the consistent Jack The Savage who is overdue another success but gets solid ticks in both the distance and ground boxes.
JET LADY HAS CLEARANCE
⭕ 3.30 Newcastle: Another afternoon favourite to take on here with Adveram who has struggled since winning at Ayr last October off a mark of 93. It was a narrow success and I think he is now struggling off his triple figure handicap level.
The trainer reported he ‘never travelled’ when eighth at Wetherby last time out and I can never back at horse at short odds with a preceding run like that.
Preference is for Killybegs Jet Lady to continue the excellent recent spell of form for trainer Lucinda Russell who last week notched up her 150th Kelso winner.
Killybegs Jet Lady surely needed the race when sixth here earlier in the money. She had been off the track for 261 days but was far from disgraced and should now be cherry ripe on her return trip to the north east.
NO JOKE OF A NAP
⭕ 8.30 Wolverhampton: A low grade finale but considering the level that Comedian Leader is plying her trade at her form is remarkably consistent and she is also a five-timer career winner.
Another good run at Lingfield last week when second to Mashaan and off the same mark looks to have a penalty kick chance of going one better. Let’s just hope Haaland isn’t taking the penalty!
Sir Laurence Graff was a close up fourth at Lingfield last time out and that rates him a big danger but for some reason he has never shown his best form here at Dunstall Park.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
