DAQMAN NAP AT 6.1 ON BETDAQ: Fairyhouse in Ireland and the jumps card in England at Lingfield are both lost to the weather today but Daqman plays the BETDAQ markets at Carlisle and relies on a 6.1 nap at Wolverhampton tonight.
NATIONAL WEIGHTS PREVIEW
⭕ 4.00 Aintree, April 11 (Grand National) The last two winners of the Grand National, both trained by Willie Mullins, are expected to top the handicap at the weights ceremony in London tomorrow.
In fact, Nick Rockett and the 2024 winner, I Am Maximus, finished one-two last year, the winner getting 4lb.
Third and fourth, Grangeclare West and Iroko, would normally get some help closing the gap.
Nick Rockett has not been seen since that day, and may make his seasonal reappearance in the Gold Cup.
No penalties can be imposed on the National weights (11st 12lb to 10st 2lb) after publication.
J P McManus, owner of I Am Maximus and Iroko, also has Ten Up and Florida Pearl star Oscars Brother heading up the weights, along with Cotswold Chase winner, Spillane’s Tower.
But the massive improver of the field is Haiti Couleurs, winner of the Irish Grand National last Spring and the Welsh version in December.
Rebeccca Curtis’s Welsh-trained nine-year-old has chasing form figures of 113111P11 which have seen him hiked 41lb up the handicap in 15 months.
HELLO! THEY BET THE JUDGE
⭕ 1.35 Carlisle today J P McManus has lost his Fairyhouse meeting today leaving his sole chance of success here with top-weight Grain d’Oudairies, ex-champ Brian Hughes booked.
He’s won over the trip and ground, and stepped up to his first success in this grade when scoring at Haydock in December.
Soft Risk has not been seen since winning his only novice chase in December 2023, and Hardy Du Seuil is up from Berkshire with losing chase form going back to the autumn of 2021.
It all makes Here Comes Georgie’s two-month break seem like a weekend off. There must have been a problem when he tailed off at Haydock that day and the course winner here (over hurdles) went close in a Doncaster chase in November.
Hello Judge scored back to back in the autumn, and is a Carlisle specialist (11201P121) back on a winning mark.
He’s ridden by Danny McMenamin, who won the Haydock Grand National trial on Saturday, and Hello Judge wasn’t 9.7 outsider on BETDAQ this morning for long and was down to 7.5 as I write (not all my money!).
He has done all his winning beyond 2m, mainly at 2m 4f, so I was glad to use my overs and take some 6.5 Grain d’Oudairies.
DAVY DROPPED IN GRADE
⭕ 2.35 Carlisle Hat-trick winner at Ascot on Saturday, Ben Pauling, and Ben Jones who rode two of them, team up for their sole starter today, Sound And Fury in this class-3 chase.
He’s within a pound of his weight when winning here at Carlisle in November on the only occasion he’s had Ben in the saddle. Westerninthepark was beaten favourite that day.
Ayiko has won only over hurdles on soft ground, though made a fair start to his chasing career with a small-field second at Haydock.
Saint Davy was useful over hurdles at this time two years back, and ran reasonably well the last day after seemingly being aimed very high over fences. BETDAQ 4.8.
We’ll know more this afternoon but he could give weight all round. I also took 8.1 on Betdaq Betting Exchange about Sound And Fury in a 102% market.
SEAGULL ALL SET TO SWOOP
⭕ 6.30 Wolverhampton A decent 6f dash around Dunstall Park, headed in the weights by Silky Wilkie, who scored at Newcastle last month but that was 34 races after his previous strike!
Hierarchy’s first ever success was here at Wolver but that was first time out in August 2021. You must go back even further to Water Of Leith’s CD wins in 2020.
Papa Cocktail beat him here 17 days ago but that and his CD success in the autumn were both a class lower than today.
The Flying Seagull was narrowly beaten in the All-Weather Vase at Lingfield last Spring. He’d led two out at this time last year after a break in the AW Championships Trial (class 2). BETDAQ 5.9
