58 POINTS PROFIT IN TWO DAYS FOR DAQMAN: White Frost (WON 7-2) and Colonel Mak (WON 3-1) were the scorers as Daqman netted 21 points profit at Betdaq offers yesterday, to add to Final Liberation (WON 11-8) and West With The Wind (WON 3-1) on Wednesday for a total haul of 58 points in two days.
30 MINUTES OF GLORY: Today he plays up his winnings, going for three big hits in half an hour from the trio of major races at Goodwood and Beverley. It’s mud or glory as the rain comes down!
Swipe me! Stone the crows! It’s going to be a comedy like Hancock’s Half Hour (we were ‘banned’ from listening at my school) or it’ll be 30 minutes of glory from three hot races in quick succession. But that’s what I’m going for today: extraction with the laughing gas or a wallet full. Here we go, starting at 3.20 and we’ll know the worst by the 3.50.
3.20 Goodwood (Celebration Mile) Three-year-olds have landed a hat–trick in this but today leave it to Dubawi Gold, an animal it is not easy to have total faith in, although he is officially rated higher than two of those last three winners.
That rating (117) comes from two Guineas seconds but it’s not what beats you, it’s what you beat. He was second to Frankel at Newmarket but the third has won an ordinary Craven (Group 3). He was second to Roderic O’Connor at the Curragh but the third was only fourth in the Group-3 Jersey Stakes
The holder of this trophy, Poet’s Voice, has since won a Group 1 on today’s ground and comes to the table fresh and hungry today.
Emerald Commander and Set The Trend are Group-2 placed but that was in Germany. Premio Loco needs top of the ground.
3.35 (Beverley Bullet) Three-year-olds have won four times in four years despite having had only nine runners in that time, and Dinkum Diamond has looked progressive on both firm and soft this term. He’s a stand-out here.
His five-lengths defeat by Margot Did seemed to be a form dip at the time until ’Margot’ went to York and won the Group-1 Nunthorpe. Fair dinkum.
3.50 Goodwood Seven of the last nine winners had already scored at Goodwood and one of the two others had been placed twice on the course.
That gives a big lift to the chances of Chilworth Lad, Citrus Star, Casual Glimpse, Dunno’o, Docofthebay, Noble Citizen and Webbow.
Casual Glimpse (from stall 2) and Webbow (crossed over to make all from 11) won at Goodwood’s July meeting; neither has put back-to-back wins together before, but Casual Glimpse, at three, is the progressive one of the two and is drawn right on the rail today.
Chilworth Lad almost got up in that race, unfancied at 25-1 and failing to get a clear run from stall 11. He’s 7lb better off for about a length, including the boy’s claim. But Casual Glimpse was eased at the finish.
Docofthebay is another one they’re claiming off, placed in a big field here before but an unpredictable sort. Citrus Star has had little luck in running this year but got through to win at Goodwood last summer from stall 13.
Noble Citizen has run two good races at Ascot this (so-called) summer but that puts him on a high mark (form figures above a 92 rating in 2010-11 are 0003000). Similarly, Brae Hill never wins above 94 and he’s had his once-a-year day of glory.
Dunn’o is a front-runner, who has stayed on for mile wins and has got his ground and a decent draw to be effective. He’s been placed at Goodwood twice from a low stall but is not easy to win with. Below Zero will be up there with him, taking them all on.
Of the others, Pastoral Player, a hold-up horse, is a classy individual. Has been winning over 6f but races as though this easy 7f was made for him. Can he get through from stall 13? Can he carry such a big weight?
With such question marks against him, I prefer Eton Rifles, well drawn, a winner on soft and with a decent Group-3 run behind him last time out. Kieren Fallon is a genius at this tricky race, having won it twice this decade with great judgment of pace.
Bronze Prince, a come-from-behind horse, lightly raced – and will like the ground – won so well at Ascot and has been targeted at a £100,000 bonus if also winning today’s race. So my three are Bronze Prince (13.5), Eton Rifles (10.5) and Casual Glimpse (10.0) at those Betdaq offers this morning.
