7-1 BIG-RACE JACKPOT AND THIRD LAY IN A ROW: Daqman targeted two Saturday jackpot races for 30 points profit, and landed Dynaste (WON 7-1) and Rileyev (2nd 16-1), plus his third successful lay on the trot. Here is the lays hat-trick:
* WON Sat ARTHURIAN L (3rd 9-2)
* WON Fri SWING BILL (3rd 7-2 fav)
* WON Thur ROM.D’ARTAIX (3rd 2-1 fav)
FOUR DAYS OUT OF FIVE IN PROFIT:That made four profitable days out of the last five, and continued his sequence of a good-odds winner every day. Here they are:
* Saturday DYNASTE (WON 7-1, was 10.0 on Betdaq)
* Friday GOOGLETTE (WON 8-1)
* Thursday ROLLING ACES (WON 11-2)
* Wednesday LUCKY ROYALE (WON 13-2, was 9.0 on Betdaq)
* Tuesday BRUNTON BLUE (WON 5-1)
Here are more good Betdaq offers worth a bob or two. In each case, you have the favourite to fall back on, as stakes saver. The venue: Towcester, where the hill finish sorts the men from the boys.
It could indeed find out Jolly Boys Outing (2.15): he hasn’t had an outing for 184 days and his trainer’s last winner was three days earlier, yet he’s next best in behind the ‘jolly’, Shernaz.
He warrants a lay unless he’s a league ahead of stable form, which reads like this for three runners in the last fortnight: pulled up, pulled up, beaten 68 lengths.
They’ve pushed Orion Star right out to 9.8 yet, strictly on a line through El Diego, he has 2lb in hand on the favourite. Can be forgiven his latest run, when a shoe buckled underneath him, then came off altogether.
Orion Star has won three races over further than today’s 3m, so should have some lungs left for that notorious hill, and trainer Seamus Mullins is in decent form.
The El Diego line doesn’t take into account the ease with which Shernaz beat him at Plumpton but the time was so slow the starter’s hack could have won it, and Shernaz is straight back over from Ireland to try to defy the handicapper. A quick return means the horse remembers his last run.
You have the exact same in the next race (I love meaningless tautology): Master Milan is out again within seven days with 7lb extra. This time I can save on him for a 13.5 exchange about Mexican Bob.
Bob’s yard is super hot, with 50% winners, one of them ridden by Robert Kirk.
Mexican Bob used to be decent for Alan King and had a staying-on pipe-opener for his new yard a fortnight ago after a long absence.
King is bullish about the season ahead for Flaming Charlie (1.30 Exeter) but he may run into a steamroller here in the shape of Paul Nicholls’ Minella Stars, an Accordion out of a Strong Gale mare, now ready to start his climb to the top.
The Taunton Chase (2.30) is interesting. Baseball Ted won it last year, and Super Formen is better off with Renard, who goes for a hat-trick.
I once rang Venetia Williams and asked her why she can’t win at this course. Venetia gave me an answer fitting a lady not an England footballer, but I fell out of love with her when she won the Grand National at 100-1 and I wasn’t on.
Meanwhile her losing Exeter run continues: 44 flops in 1,342 days now. My maths make that three and a half years.
But she has worked her magic (still that boyish blush on my face, isn’t there) on ex-French Renard, who seemed to acclimatize badly until she got him back to win twice in seven days this month.
In the second of them, he landed that 7lb-penalty kick but is now hiked a total of 15lb and had Super Formen (gave 4lb) breathing down his neck at Chepstow until he made a mistake at the last.
I shall take the 6.0 Baseball Ted, with the stable in form, and on the assumption that he’s had this race as his target for a repeat.
At 4.0 in the green, Renard is a bit big for me as a lay, even though it’s a 100-1 against Ms Williams on Exeter form. I’ll sit and watch (the horse, not Venetia) and remember Mon Mome.
