DAQMAN INCHES DOUBLE WHAMMY: On top of a successful lay on Poker Hospital (3rd 7-4 favourite), Daqman pulled off a double whammy in the Betdaq Multiples Maiden at Kempton last night with a win bet on Intuition (WON 2-1) but Paul Hanagan got the winner up so late that it was laid for a pound at 990.0, 430.0 and 340.0. The first four were separated by a nose, a neck and a neck.

‘FLASH’ 8-1 HIT MAKES HIM A WINNER ON THE NIGHT: Daqman opened the evening at Kempton with Night Flash (WON 8-1) in the Free Entry for Betdaq Nursery to show a profit on the evening racing of 26.9 points.

He started with a name to live down. But very, very quickly Dean Pratt – ‘call me Deano’ – has become a name to live up to, as he goes for a hat-trick at Musselburgh this afternoon.

Deano is four out five this season and you could say that two of his wins, on twice-odds-on Folk Tune, were steering jobs but the boy done good when he landed Royal Bonsai a 10-1 winner at Haydock. In all his limited success so far, he’s caught the eye.

Just 22, and from Lismore, Deano started with Charlie Swan but his career has taken off since moving to North Yorkshire and joining John Quinn at his Character Building yard.

Now Tottenham Hotspurs fan Pratt and the in-form Quinn team up with King Fingal (2.30 Musselburgh), and, if he can pass the post first in the November Handicap Hurdle, Deano will no doubt be saying ‘this one’s for Harry’, in salute to his hero, who is undergoing heart surgery.

King Fingal is a course-and-distance winner at the Edinburgh track and Quinn is currently in top gear with four wins and four places from his last 12 starters.

Punters should note the ace that Quinn is playing: Deano’s 10lb allowance. With the two recent picture cards in the flop already, King Fingal could be a big turn at 5.8 on Betdaq this morning, as I write.

Another standout in another small field at similar offers this morning is Ukrainian Star (2.50 Towcester at 5.4) for the top of the ‘hot trainers’ list, Martin Keighley.

‘Star’ has two things going for him today: firstly – with the exception of a Points winner who has so far failed to jump well under Rules – the opposition is all pensionable age: two 15-year-olds, one aged 12, one 11 and one 10. Yes, they win races, but much less so on a sound surface.

Ukrainian Star’s second great asset for the stiff track at Towcester, with its Sisyphus finish, is that he stays – and wins at – more than three miles. Today’s 2m 6f holds no terrors for him, as the rest run out of lungs.

On the Flat, the Southwell standing-dish La Estrella (1.10) – nine wins from nine starts at the track – is ridden by Dane O’Neill, who is 90% on board Don Cantillon’s horses.

I fancy Stars In Your Eyes (5.30) at Wolver at a huge 9.8 this morning. This Galileo filly has worked with some decent animals on the Newmarket gallops.

I’m saving on Aqua Aura and laying Whey Sauce on the grounds that Peter Chapple Hyam has dropped out of form and this grey filly is paper favourite after being flattered by her run in the Musidora.
