WILL THERE BE ANOTHER 20-1 SHOT TODAY? Daqman turned up a long shot a day over the long weekend: Ballyvesey (Saturday, 3rd 20-1), Skippers Brig (Sunday, 2nd 17-2) and She’s Humble (2nd 20-1), beaten threeparts of a length. Can he find another outsider today?

Kauto could star today by default. Alan King, who has just saddled three winning chasers from four runners at Aintree, Warwick and Plumpton, gets my vote for Kauto The Roc (1.10) at Fontwell today.

Kauto The Roc, racing off 123, is 51lb behind Kauto Star but is the only one with a chase rating in his race today, and his main rivals in the market have serious black marks against them.

Brackloon High is making his chasing debut with the Noel Chance stable without a winner at Fontwell for seven long years.

And State Benefit is over fences for the first time with Nicky Henderson warning that he is a hard horse to get fit.

Brackloon High may beat the hoodoo; State Benefit may be as fit as a flea. But the way the market has gone early doors, I’d want to put some 11-4 Kauto in my book as a first position on the race. He is sure to close, if the worries about his rivals surface on course.

Secret Edge (12.40) could successfully launch Alan King’s day, dropped from a Grade 2 at Cheltenham, and therefore likely to concede 7lb to those of a moderate level here.

Colebrooke slaughtered his field, including Hi Note, over CD in October, but the time of the race was ‘a month’ above average and he is unlikely to have the luxury of picking them off a slow pace here.

Kingy could have yet another cheque in the bank after the 1.40, but it’s likely to be place only for Medinas, since we are told that Lets Get Serious is ‘the biz.’

Emma Lavelle’s pilot on Fox Appeal will need all his claim and Duke Of Monmouth all his limited experience of hurdles if they are to undo this ‘Serious’ Cheltenham bumper winner who is ‘going places’ (quote unquote trainer Henderson): 2.93 as I write.

I’m expecting to see a forceful ride from Richard Johnson on Festival Dreams (2.40), who stays up to 3m and has looked much more comfortable returned to hurdles after a dumb spell chasing.

My big-odds each-way outsider is Brushford (3.10), at 18.5 as I write. Brushford and Sir Winston can win after a lay-off; that’s about the only time they can, while they’ve forgotten the pain of being put under pressure.

Oncle Kid has had his win; Reymysterio is still living off his Points success way back; Hobbs Dream is high in the handicap; and Caspar Of Tarsus needs the ground to dry out.

Southwell’s getting-out stakes has the perfect each-way bet, Transmit (3.30) at 6.8, with full cover – and more – on your win stake if he only places.

Tim Easterby is three out of four on AW and Transmit has the favourite in his sights, having been fourth when St Oswald was second over 6f on the course last time. It could be a different story over the extra furlong today.
