DAQMAN NOW 11-2 UP ON PRICEWISE: Cheeky Daqman made one of yesterday’s Pricewise tips a PLACE lay in a nine-horse race at Aintree (it fell), went win-and-place on the runner-up, Carraig Mor (2nd 12-1), and landed another return in a later Pricewise race from win-and-place Fairy Rath (2nd 25-1) to go 11-2 up on the Racing Post tipster since the start of the Flat.
152 IS DOUBLE HIS RIVAL’S SCORE: The day, which also featured Cyrus Darius (WON 8-1), was his third consecutive day in profit (a total of 69 points) and takes his wins haul in the Pricewise challenge since November, 2013, to 152 against 75 for his value-betting opponent. More than double.
EIGHT WINS SO FAR AT AINTREE: That gave him eight wins at Aintree in the first two days from the following (in running order; win and place on all outsiders):
WON 7-4 SILVINIACO CONTI (from 4.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 3-1 JEZKI (from 4.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 7-1 TAGLIETELLE (from 9.2 on BETDAQ)
3RD 25-1 MASTER MALT
WON 8-1 CYRUS DARIUS (from 11.0 on BETDAQ)
Place Lay IRISH CAVALIER (fell 8-1)
2ND 12-1 CARAIG MOR (from 14.0 on BETDAQ)
2ND 25-1 FAIRY RATH (from 39.0 on BETDAQ)
46.0, 36.0, 29.0 AND 15.0 BETS IN THE GRAND NATIONAL: Today Daqman tries to land the National with two more big outsiders, both ante-post, at 29.0 and 46.0 for the Grand National, plus today’s bets in the race at 15.0 and 36.0, following two enormous big-race winners this year: Cause Of Causes (WON 44.0 on BETDAQ) and Ebony Express (WON 33-1). He also has bets at 31.0, 26.0, 16.0 and 13.5 in other races at Aintree today.
BIG-RACE FORM TICK LIST: Daqman reveals every facet of the National runners today with a list of the best in each category: jumping, class, stamina, breeding, course form, trainerform, jockeys, weight (good and bad) and those specifically saved up for the race.
PANNING FOR NATIONAL GOLD WITH CREEK
1: Rocky Creek (29.0 ante-post on BETDAQ)
2: Balthazar King (15.0 on BETDAQ)
3: Night In Milan (46.0 ante-post on BETDAQ)
4: Royale Knight (36.0 on BETDAQ)
5: Al Co (five places on BETDAQ)
4.15 Aintree (the GRAND NATIONAL): I give you two top trainers. One led the other stables early on, with a tremendous start to the season. But the other cruised back into championship form, winning big races Saturday after Saturday.
Now Philip Hobbs and Paul Nicholls, their stables wide apart in sunny Somerset, have banked everything on winning the Grand National, and I find it inconceivable that one of them will not go very close.
Hobbs has swerved a near-certain prize at Cheltenham with cross-country ace, Balthazar King, who was National runner-up last year when I was on at 39.0.
And Nicholls’ fifth last year, Rocky Creek, who has had a wind op, also missed the season’s biggest festival and races here off a gift of a weight, not penalised for a power drive to victory at Kempton Park.
This column is quids in. We’re already on Rocky, top of my ABC guide (see Wednesday’s Archive) at 29.0 and, thanks to the euphoria about Tony McCoy’s mount, Shutthefrontdoor, we can back the rest of the field (literally) and still win money.
In an amazing 101% orange this morning, Rocky Creek takes out around 10%, which means that we get £100 for every £90 we stake. The ante-post bet and the open season on the much-hyped ‘Front Door’ allows us on to a big 15.0 Balthazar King.
In fact, our orange market is even better than that, since we also have 46.0 Night In Milan who is 30.0 this morning. We backed him because he’s such a superb jumper.
Of course, you can trade out your 29.0 about Rocky Creek at his 10.0, though our big two will stay at inflated offers because of all that hype about the McCoy favourite.
Shutthefrontdoor might win, of course. The 2014 Irish National winner also been saved up for this race, too. So, too, the 2013 Scottish National winner, Godsmejudge. In fact, I can’t remember a year like it. So many good horses put by for the National.
If your horse has won a stamina test, or nearly so, and already jumped these spruce barrier-reefs called Grand National fences – Across The Bay, Monbeg Dude, Alvarado, Saint Are and last year’s winner, Pineau de Re – you are entitled to some confidence.
I’ve done a tick list of all aspects of form and ability for the race, as follows:

HERE’S A BALLY GOOD OUTSIDER AT 26.0
1.30 Aintree (Mersey Novices’ Hurdle) It’s Paul Nicholls 3, Nicky Henderson 2 in the last nine seasons, but winner or second in major Cheltenham championship events have won four years out of five.
That highlights the strong chance of Parlour Games (also seven), who finished just in front of Nichols Canyon at Cheltenham.
The difference between them is that Parlour Games is twice a winner at the trip but Nichols Canyon is still only five (four of the last five winners have been that age) and is the more likely to improve.
As De Mee (Nicholls) beat winners at Sandown and the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Finale fourth at Leicester, but the ground is a question mark and he was too easy to back this morning at 13.0 in the BETDAQ orange, despite strong vibes from the trainer.
Days Of Heaven (Henderson) improved in a hood on the last day to beat yesterday’s top-novice runner-up, Vago Collonges, at Kempton. That puts Days Of Heaven and As De Mee very close together.
As De Mee comes out better than Ballybolley on a line through Great Try but, though trainer Twiston-Davies hasn’t had a great season, Ballybolley, a Kayf Tara related to 3m hurdlers, steps up in trip for the first time and could be the surprise packet at 26.0 on BETDAQ early mouse.
2.05 Aintree (Maghull Novices’ Chase) Sprinter Sacre completed a mighty double in this after taking the Arkle but the last two Maghull winners swerved Cheltenham.
Gods Own ran fantastically well in the Arkle (Court Minstrel fifth) but has not been one to rely on and has had a long season.
Gary Moore thinks he has another Sire De Grugy in the progressive Traffic Fluide, who jumped the tricky Sandown fences really well, and there was no remaining traffic near him at the business end!
2.50 Aintree (Liverpool Hurdle) Won won four years running by Big Buck’s, picking this one up after his World Hurdles.
Whisper some old favourites in this last year, including Zarkandar but this time his biggest headache is the rise and rise of Cole Harden, who could run away with this one, as he did the World Hurdle.
Cole Harden slammed yesterday’s Aintree winner, Saphir Du Rheu, with Zarkandar third (almost fell two out) and Whisper only fifth, and Aintree is even better suited to front-runners.
3.25 Aintree Here’s another big outsider with a chance, Bobowen (16.0 on BETDAQ, as I write), who will love a drier Aintree surface and is better than the bare form.
5.10 Aintree Dormello Mio (13.5 on BETDAQ) is on the upgrade now after Cheltenham came too soon after his wind. Best outsider may be Roserrow at 31.0 to run them ragged..
