DREAMS OF THE FESTIVAL

⭕ 1.10 Cheltenham Henry De Bromhead is in good form at home but his four runners at Cheltenham today follow defeat for his Dancing On My Own there yesterday.

Marv Michael won unchallenged on his chasing debut but beat nothing well at Kilbeggan and, by coincidence, Gavin Cromwell’s Dutch Schultz scored at Killarney from one beaten out of sight by Dancing On My Own at Ballinrobe.

The ratings for these races have the two Irish raiders well behind Guard Your Dreams and, less so, Riskintheground.

The obvious nomination for Guard Your Dreams after his late-in-life debut-chase win at Warwick was the Turners at the festival next March, so here he is hoping to do as well over fences there as he did at Grade-2 level over hurdles. Betdaq Betting Exchange 8.8 this morning.

Four chase wins already have hiked Riskintheground 22lb and, despite the flowing form of Dan and Harry Skelton, he now seems to have his work cut out

MULLINS ON FINE MARGIN

⭕ 1.45 Cheltenham Fine Margin landed a hat-trick on sound surfaces before and after soft-ground defeats in the Spring and on the last day in the Fixed Brush Series Final at Worcester.

Willie Mullins’ only runner at this Cheltenham two-day meet, Fine Margin has the same rating as the Downpatrick Maiden and Kelso novice winner, Intense Approach, who ran second in the Grade-2 Persian War novice the last day.

With Harry Cobden booked, he tries to win this race for John McConnell for the third time in five years.

Millforce is the one most used to racing over 3m in point-to-point and at Cork last time out.

CHASE CHELTENHAM FIRE

⭕ 2.20 Cheltenham Not a winning favourite in the decade for this £52k (3m 1f) handicap chase; not a one. Not a winning six-year-old either, so Broadway Boy and Some Scope – at opposite ends of the handicap – have it all to prove.

Front-runner Broadway Boy went up 18lb in the last year of novice chasing, including twice winning at Cheltenham. In fact, his record here, hurdles and chases, is 1211 but that means he’s giving weight to all bar Does He Know.

Does He Know and Some Scope were Grimthorpe one-two in the mud last March; Some Scope got better ground here at Cheltenham next time but still was beaten favourite.

Le Milos spent time hurdling last year, after winning the Coral Gold Cup over the Newbury fences the year before, which seems to have misdirected him as an all-out stayer but today is his trip and ground, and his yard is absolutely flying. BETDAQ 14.0 taken.

Chasing Fire is unexposed for Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen and, with the stable in form, could make his mark off a nice weight. BETDAQ 10.5.

There are question marks over the stamina for this of Pepe Le Moko and Kansas City Star, while Senior Chief would prefer it soft.

MURPHY GOES IN TO BATT

⭕ 2.05 Doncaster Last year’s winner, Aberama Gold, has slipped 11lb down the handicap, 6lb better off with the winner, Blue Storm, at Haydock in September.

The favourite, Jer Batt, fourth getting 6lb from Blue Storm, and Designer, 5th, are both 7lb better.

Jockey bookings could make the difference. Designer finished second off 6lb higher in this very race in 2022. Now ridden by Jamie Spencer (BETDAQ 10.0), with Oisin Murphy taking over on Jer Batt (BETDAQ 7.4).

DETAIN TO PIP DELACROIX

⭕ 2.40 Doncaster (Futurity) The 11 times winner of this two-year-old test, Aidan O’Brien last took it in 2022 with Auguste Rodin, who won two Derbys and a Breeders Cup the following year.

Delacroix is a rare sole runner for O’Brien; Team Gosden runs the Nashwa half-brother, Nebras, and Godolphin’s pick is Anno Domini, almost a stone behind Delacroix and Andrew Balding’s Royal Playwright at this stage.

But top rating is Wimbledon Hawkeye, who beat Royal Playwright in the Royal Lodge and ran up to Derby favourite, The Lion In Winter, at York.

Beresford Stakes winner, Hotazhell, has most experience of the Irish but, on the ground, I fancy stamina in the guise of Detain (BETDAQ 10.0).

The son of Wootton Bassett is a half-brother to St Leger second Arrest. Well fancied over stablemate Nebras.
