4-1 WINNER FROM THE CHAMPION TIPSTER: UNOHU! Who had another winning day yesterday? You know who! Daqman, of course. After Minella Trump (WON 6-4) on Thursday landed his nap, back to back with another best bet, Queens Cave (WON 4-6) on Wednesday, he yesterday finished in front when Unohu (WON 4-1) paid for the day with winnings to spare.

EARLY START SO BET ON THYME

12.05 Cheltenham A Cheltenham (old) course and distance winner of 22 days ago for a stable and jockey both on around a 30% strike! That’s Champagne Well, who beat my Fortune Cookie hat-trick scorer, Braid Blue (L’Air Du Vent third).

Richard Johnson, who rode Braid Blue to that hat-trick, now opposes Champagne Well on Thyme Hill, the Champion Bumper third. Thyme Hill steps up in trip after winning the Persian War but that shouldn’t bother a Kayf Tara gelding.

No stamina problems either for Dancing On My Own, a winner on the heavy at Wexford after disappointing at Ballybrit in the summer. I just prefer Thyme Hill.

1.15 Cheltenham I put Poker Play up in my preview of the meeting when I managed to get some 10-1 about the heavy-ground winner. His debut chase success has been franked by the runner-up.

Wholestone won the Relkeel Hurdle here on heavy ground but has not been so successful over fences in a late start to his second career, though had Minella Warrior six lengths back when runner-up over today’s CD three weeks back.

2.00 Punchestown (Morgiana Hurdle) Klassical Dream’s Supreme Novice Hurdle win was never in doubt and he made it four from four at the Punchestown Festival. Fitting then, that he starts his Champion Hurdle build-up here.

His Ricci-owned stablemate Sharjah, who beat Faugheen in the Morgiana a year ago, has a 3lb higher rating that Klassical Dream, going into this dream. Should be good to watch.

NICHOLLS IS MY BIG-RACE SAINT

2.25 Cheltenham (November Gold Cup) Only two winners in the decade have carried more than 11st, which is one reason why I fancied Brelan D’As, who got such a good plug from Paul Nicholls in his Racing Post stable tour that I took some 20-1. I should have waited for BETDAQ this morning: he was 27.0.

Jumped brilliantly when a winner on heavy at Haydock last December and is now his five times placed out of seven (two wins), still standing.

In fact, the money was for Slate House, who cruised home here over CD in a novice chase three weeks back.

Festival winner Siruh Du Lac has won twice here, in fact, but over a similar trip but on the new course. His sole defeat in seven races was on heavy ground.

Spiritofgames could turn over the festival form at the revised weights but, like Slate House and Siruh Du Lac, is high in the weights. Only two winners have carried more than 11st in the decade: one was Al Ferof, the other was in a race on a sounder surface.

Brelan d’As is a stone better off with Siruh Du Lac on Cheltenham Festival form, but I will have to include stablemate Magic Saint (at 23.0 BETDAQ offers) in my bets. Don’t want to be caught out like that.

Front-runners Us And Them and Warthog will have their work cut out to hold on in soft-heavy ground. Guitar Pete (beat Happy Diva at wetherby) was third in this last year and the Twisto-Davies horses should go well: Count Meribel will like the ground and Splash Of Ginge won it two years ago.

But I note that Sam Twiston-Davies swerves Cheltenham for Wetherby, where the Twiston team could land a double via Good Boy Bobby (1.05) and Mr Antolini (2.15)

3.00 Cheltenham (Big Buck’s Handicap Hurdle) Tobefair tries to give upwards of a stone away in a race which seven times out of 10 goes to a young horse with a light weight (10st 9lb or less).

These stats suggest that Olly Murphy has placed his pair absolutely spot on: Smackwater Jack (7.0 offers) under Richard Johnson and The Butcher Said, ridden by Adrian Heskin.

The small but tough Eminent Poet’s (9.6) had returns on heavy over 3m plus before the Pertemps Final in March of 1301. Goes well fresh and Venetia Williams has had four winners since the start of the month.

SHANWALLA BIG AT BETDAQ 15.5

3.30 Cheltenham A four-year-old won this last year, a break with the traditional stats, and Gavin Cromwell sends over Peaches And Cream today from that age group.

Peaches and Cream and fellow Irish raider, Jessica Harrington’s high-in-the-weights Conron, both have something to prove on soft ground, as has Nicky Henderson’s Falco Blitz.

Shanwalla, the third Irish hope, ran a cracker on heavy at Roscommon, runner-up, trying to give weight to the winner, who then ran second when Duke Street completed his hat-trick here at Cheltenham over the CD (Treasure Dillon, third, is another with ground worries today).

David Pipe does particularly well at this meeting and, though he has yet to establish himself a classy horse, Remastered won back to back on heavy last Spring.

Jatiluwih was highly rated from his French form, and has been pushed up a shade higher to 137, after completing a novice four-timer. Today’s 11st 10lb seems beyond most who are running today in such bad ground, though David Maxwell takes off a valuable 3lb.

Legends Gold is another sequence-winning novice completing a hat-trick in October, but against nothing of note. The 10lb Shanwalla (15.5 BETDAQ) receives from Remastered (5.0 offers) could be decisive.
