DODGING THE RAIN WITH AW BANKERS: There are big-name horses everywhere today, but is there also rain everywhere? Daqman errs on the side of soft-ground animals as he makes his selections for Ascot and Haydock, glad there are some All-Weather alternatives at Kempton Park and Wolverhampton. He has bankers at both.
CHALLENGE: DAQMAN 70 PRICEWISE 30: The feature races include the Haydock Sprint and Kempton Mile Final, in which Daqman (on 70 returns), takes on Pricewise (30) in four of them. A full list in their challenge is given below for Daq Multiples punters.
TWO BULL’S-EYE BETS: Daqman steps up his stakes from 30 all round (except the bankers) to have 50-points-target Bull’s-Eye Bets in two races at Ascot, which is his most profitable course.
THE DAQ MULTIPLES STARGAZERS
Do you have a winning system? We know a man who does. He doubles and trebles a mix of Daqman and Pricewise bets on the big races of the day, and had 100 returns with singles only this season. Here’s what he’ll consider this afternoon for his Daq Multiples:
2.40 Ascot
VON BLUCHER (Daqman) 6.2 on Betdaq
Firmament (Pricewise) 8.0 on Betdaq
Yattwee (Pricewise) 10.0 on Betdaq
3.10 Ascot
GAWDAWPALIN (Daqman) 14.5 on Betdaq
STARGAZER (Daqman) 4.1 on Betdaq
New Caledonia (Pricewise) 12.5 on Betdaq
4.15 Kempton
BASTILLE DAY (Daqman) 14.0 on Betdaq
GEORGIAN BAY (Daqman) 10.5 on Betdaq
Georgian Bay (Pricewise) 10.5 on Betdaq
Replenish (Pricewise) 10.0 on Betdaq
4.30 Haydock
MAGICAL MEMORY (Daqman) 11.5 on Betda q
QUIET REFLECTION (Daqman) 6.0 on Betdaq
KACHY (Daqman place) 47.0 on Betdaq
LIMATO (Daqman) Lay to lose (win market)
The Tin Man (Pricewise) 9.2 on Betdaq
VON BLUCHER COULD OUTSTAY THEM
2.40 Ascot Big-odds winners here, and they come from the bottom half of the handicap, which today will be favoured by the rain.
Lincoln has dropped a stone in the ratings since this time last year, and has last run on this course was a good one, fifth in the International (slow away), and now much better in with second and third, Squats and Scottish Glen.
Dawaa has struggled off this kind of mark in class 2 since scoring at Goodwood on the soft a year ago. His only success has come a class lower and he’s worse off with the short-head runner-up, Twin Sails.
It’s a similar story for Muhadathat but Von Blucher won over a mile at Newmarket at today’s level.
Dutch Law stepped up when he had back-to-back 7f success at Newmarket and maybe it was turning out again within a week that cost him his hat-trick there, or maybe it was the extra furlong. Or both.
Unlucky second in this last year; unlucky at Goodwood on the last day, you have to trust that Suzi’s Coinnoisseur will have things go his way.
Squats likes Ascot and usually goes close but he hasn’t won for two years, and gets no respite from the handicapper.
Von Blucher and Lincoln (losing run now 18) may have most to fear from Firmament, despite his 17lb rise this year, if the going is still on top at the time of the race.
KIRK COLT PALIN INTO SIGNIFICANCE
3.10 Ascot The second (twice), fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth and 14th behind Sylvester Kirk’s Gawdawpalin at Epsom have won seven races since, the one that was fourth beating Poets Word who, in turn, beat another runner today, Sixties Groove, at Goodwood.
Stargazer was put up in the weights for a win and then put up again when he was beaten! That suggests he’s kept good company and is unexposed here, stepped up in trip after only five races in his life.
Dal Harraild’s sole defeat since his seasonal debut was when he went down two heads over today’s CD, giving weight to the first two.
But it was not a race of strength in depth and he needs the rain to stay away if he is to give weight all round.
HE’LL HOLD THEM ALL AT BAY AGAIN
4.15 Kempton (London Mile Final) Three-year-olds have a dismal record in this; nil success going way back, and with their form in the last seven seasons: 000030000000002404.
So perhaps the winner of the benchmark qualifier of 17 days ago here, when Dommersen beat Afjaan, will be turned over on 2lb worse terms for a head.
Behind them were Sirius Prospect third, Secret Art fourth, Georgian Bay fifth, Replenish seventh, Jack Of Diamonds ninth. Virtually a re-run, isn’t it!
It brought Georgian Bay back to the boil for a repeat of his Final win last year off 2lb lower, when he fair scooted up. Could be even better this time around after a wind op.
Bastille Day’s form at Kempton is 4111. He’s had a break after a summer-hat-trick (two here and one at Epsom) and title-hungry Jim Crowley has been booked.
3.45 Kempton Jim Crowley may already be off the mark with Arab Spring, whose Group-1 International flop can be ignored, back to this company (beat Fire Fighting in a Group-3 earlier).
Robin Of Navan (Silvestre De Sousa) would be interesting if this were soft-ground turf, and I can imagine him coming back to form for the autumn season.
QUIET! CAN YOU HEAR THE RAIN..
3.30 Haydock Seven out of nine winners of this have been young horses aged three and four, and Walpole has Andrea Atzeni booked, stepping up in trip.
Magic Circle will take the beating. A big improver whose form dipped only when taking in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot over an extreme distance. Interesting to see what another rise in trip with do for Shakopee.
4.30 Haydock Sprint Three-year-olds are on a hat-trick but their generation’s top duo of Dancing Star and Quiet Reflection faces three hot four-year-olds, Limato, Magical Memory and The Tin Man.
I tried to even it up earlier in the week, when I said that Kachy was better than the bare form, but all now depends which of the hot six can cope with the rain, or will it let in a lucky seventh.
Limato may not even run if it comes down in bucketfuls; Magical Memory’s form won’t mind unless it’s a bog; but The Tin Man, too, needs top of the ground.
Quiet Reflection seems to hold the key, though beaten by Limato and Suedois on firm in the July Cup.
Quiet Reflection had beaten Kachy only a length in the Commonwealth Cup (good to soft) when Kachy was hanging up the straight; work has been done on this at home.
Quiet Reflection easily won the Sandy Lane over todat’s CD and earlier scored on heavy at Chantilly. Magical Memory was only just denied in today’s race last year on good to soft.
