1.50 Goodwood (Stewards’ Sprint) The low draw has dominated this week but you can expect a three-way split of the 22 runners here, and early pace could define the result.
Known front-runners include Maakaasib (stall 5), My Amigo (11), Militia (14) and Shepherd’s Purse (23), which suggests that low, middle and high will all get a good tow, but the middle in particular.
A 9.2 BETDAQ offer this morning, Boy In The Bar (stall 21) is a CD winner off a higher mark than today’s and has in-form Ryan Moore to help.
At 10.0, Golden Steps (16) is a stone lower than when winning this in 2015 and was back to form recently.
A 43.0 ‘HIDDEN HORSE’ FROM FRANCE
2.25 Goodwood (Summer Handicap) The Mark Johnston runners Time To Study, Hochfield, Sofia’s Rock and Watersmeet have all played catch-me in their time, and stablemate Soldier In Action won it off 9lb higher last year, though that was with cut in the ground.
Add to this Johnston lotto the fact that Melting Dew suddenly steps up half a mile and Walton Street may also need some cut, and you are left throwing hoops over a hook.

FOLLOW STOUTE AGAIN IN SUNSHINE
3.00 Goodwood (Gordon Stakes) Sir Michael Stoute has won this 10 times, seven this century. He showed yet again yesterday his patience and skill with a late developer when Regal Reality, not even ready for an official rating, whizzed by at the business end of a Group 3.
Sun Maiden is also unrated even after stepping up from a class-5 novice to run third in the Ribblesdale. Sure to improve again.
It is unheard of for a filly to win this, and she has tough opposition. from the improver Cross Counter, fourth in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot.
And from Dee Ex Bee. But he doesn’t want fast ground. The Derby second flopped in the Irish Derby but enjoyed Paris conditions when third in the Grand prix.
There was 0.30 points separating the three on the exchanges this morning. I made an offer of 3.5 Sun Maiden. I surely ought to get it against the Derby second?
CAN ANYONE TANGO WITH FOXTROT?
3.40 Goodwood (Stewards Cup) Lancelot Du Lac has only a pound more than when winning from Aeolus last year but that was on soft ground.
The two previous years on firm, the race went to three-year-olds who proved to be Group class. Foxtrot Lady – three wins out of four- has the same 102 rating that those two both brought to the race, and has been following a similar path to her sister, who won this in 2016.
Haddaf has fallen short since scoring in the Spring but has William Buick to help today; the chances of a third three-year-old, Eirene, would improve for rain.
Possible front-runners drawn low are Swift Approval (stall 3) and Solar Flare (4) and, high, Gifted Master (25), Watchable (27) and Reputation (28). Not much pace in the middle, so likely the meat in the sandwich will be swallowed up.
Tis Marvellous (5) and Silent Echo (in 11) come out best of the weights from the Wokingham but, on a line through Major Jumbo, Spring Loaded (19) is capable of defying his penalty, with Ryan Moore in the saddle.
Glenamoy Lad (2) won three out of four last backend and, despite the long lay-off, a measure of the stable’s confidence is the booking of Silvestre De Sousa.
SHORT LIST: Glenamoy Lad (15.5 on BETDAQ this morning), Foxtrot Lady (7.0) and Silent Echo (13.0) look best of the low stalls; Spring Loaded (8.0) and Gifted Master (15.5) the pick drawn high.
VERDICT: Foxtrot Lady gets the vote but bold moves give us big prices about Glenamoy Lad and Gifted Master, with the booking of the boy rider stealing a couple of lengths or giving the whole race away. Are you up to this, Jason Watson?
