A ROCKET UNDER DAQMAN FOR THE ECLIPSE: Rocket Rodney (WON 1-1) lived up to his name when he scooted clear at Sandown yesterday, landing the nap and a profit on the day for Daqman, who is back at the Esher track today with a Fortune Cookie running for him in the Eclipse.

SERVICE! BETDAQ VALUE AHEAD OF THE GAME: Daqman leads Pricewise 33-23 and his Fortune Cookies are 141.50 in profit, with a second runner today at Naas. He proves time and again that BETDAQ value is the way to enjoy your racing.

ANOTHER SCURRY-CHARGE DOUBLE

⭕ 1.50 Sandown (Charge) Three-year-olds have won six out of 10 and this sprint usually goes to a low draw but the power charge of last year’s winner, Came From The Dark (out of 9), and a similar run by A’Ali the year before (from the one stall) seems to suggest that, wherever you are drawn, you can win it, if you’ve got it in you.

Mitbaahy came with a run from the rear to win the Scurry here the last day but Raasel also finds his gears from off the pace.

Equilateral, a bit short of room in the Kings Stand, will – like Arecibo – find it difficult to deal with the youngsters, if the stats of this race are any guide.

Her fan club is finding Tippy Toes expensive on turf (0-6), though she’s kept them interested because repeatedly hampered after being backed in to 10-1 at Royal Ascot.

Team Johnston has upped their strike-rated from 8% to 15% but I’d rather be with the other filly in the race, Nymphadora, who was second in that Ascot heat.

But three horses have completed the Scurry-Charge double in the last seven years, so Mitbaahy has both form and trends on his side.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.2 Mitbaahy

‘CHECK’ IS UP TO THE CHALLENGE

⭕ 2.05 Haydock (1m 6f handicap) Stepping up in trip from a mile to 1m 2f and then to 1m 4f has produced a stone of improvement in Sea King.

Double Cherry also likes trip and ground – held Percy Jones at Goodwood – and the royal runner, Duty Bound, enjoyed trying this 14 furlongs at Sandown in May. BETDAQ 4.8 Sea King.

⭕ 2.25 Sandown (Challenge) Fifth of 29 in the Royal Hunt Cup was a ‘win’ on his side of the Ascot track for Sinjaari. But he hasn’t scored for two years, and five seconds and a third – beaten favourite twice – suggest more excuses.

And he’s set a lot of weight, giving 6lb to Checkandchallenge, who drops five grades from his last but one in the 2,000 Guineas. The Jersey Stakes third ran up to him at Newcastle and the beaten favourite that day went on to be placed in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. BETDAQ 5.3 Checkandchallenge

ANSWER IS BLOWING IN THE WIND

⭕ 2.40 Haydock (Lancashire Oaks) Team Gosden has won this eight times and, if Free Wind resumes where she left off in September, as Park Hill winner, with four wins out of five, she will be hard to beat here at BETDAQ 3.95.

Eshaada, the 2021 Ribblesdale runner-up and British Champion (fillies and mares) last autumn, is rated a pound higher than Free Wind here, but has needed the summer sunshine after a modest effort at Newbury in May.

That was fortnight before Sea La Rosa re-emerged as a Group-3 winner on the same course at Newbury.

Kawida, fifth in the Epsom Oaks, is head girl of the two three-year-olds, but the second generation trends badly: four-year-olds have won nine in a row.

VADENI PAR WITH DESERT CROWN

⭕ 3.35 Sandown (Eclipse Stakes) FORM and FACTS: Daqman Thursday

I made Vadeni a Fortune Cookie on the expectation of Eclipse and Champion Stakes targets and on the grounds that a single or a double from the Frenchman is all we need to keep boosting the profits.

But Vadeni caught the imagination of the racereaders when he won the French Derby eased down. ‘A fair few years since I’ve seen that in this Prix du Jockey Club,’ said trainer Jean–Claude Rouget, who is currently Gosden and O’Brien rolled into one in France, 92 wins and well clear numerically and on prizemoney in the trainers’ table.

Despite the much-vaunted Vadeni victory, I was surprised to see him officially given the same mark as Desert Crown: 123.

He is, therefore, clear of the Eclipse field, if he can make use of only part of his 10lb allowance from Mishriff (125), with the other older horses further behind.

There’s some hope for the only other three-year-old in the field, Native Trail (121), in that his trainer, Charlie Appleby, was third behind Vadeni at Chantilly with Modern Games (115), who wouldn’t have enjoyed the soft ground.

Jean-Claude counters by saying that he feels sure his Churchill colt will do even better on a sound surface; it was good when Churchill won the Dewhurst and firm when he won the 2,000 Guineas.

Native Trail, a big horse, second in the Newmarket Guineas, and winner of the Irish version, makes his first attempt at 1m 2f today.

The older horses have a lot of experience over him at the trip but Mishriff was beaten in both Eclipse and King George in 2021, and appears to have it all to do against the two young improvers.

After five in a row, including over the Eclipse CD, Bay Bridge was always held by State Of Rest at Royal Ascot, the winner having run Alenquer to half a length in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. Alenquer has always been master of Lord North.

So there it is: a Fortune Cookie trained by the very best and ridden by the current master of the French tracks, Christophe Soumillon, who treated us to his jockeyship skills with a masterly ride on Perfect Power at Royal Ascot, the first Commonwealth Cup winner from the one stall. BETDAQ 3.05 Vadeni.

FORTUNE COOKIE RUNS AT NAAS

⭕ 4.18 Naas The Deep Impact colt Auguste Rodin, first foal of a sister to dual British Champions winner, Magical, was given Fortune Cookies status on the strength of his progress at Ballydoyle and he must now step up on his sole public appearance.

He couldn’t get a clear run, lost ground and had to be switched at the business end of a Curragh maiden won by the subsequent Chesham Stakes seventh.

Shadowed, who ran around when he hit the front in the same Curragh maiden, takes Auguste Rodin on again today.
