90 POINTS PROFIT IN TWO BETS Daqman’s biggest targets have both won this week, adding to his bull’s-eye strike with Two Tempting when Montregard won 40 points at Ascot when scoring for J P McManus.
WON 4-1 MONTREGARD (win-40 Friday, BETDAQ 6.7)
WON 6-1 TWO TEMPTING (win-50 Wednesday, BETDAQ 8.5)
MULLINS MAGIC TODAY: Today’s Morgiana Hurdle (2.10) at Punchestown has been won by Willie Mullins 12 times in 14 years, setting up champion status, and opening the Festival money boxes, for such as Hurricane Fly, Nichols Canyon, Faugheen and State Man.
TOMORROW: Daqman sticks to the English scene today but tomorrow presents his form guide to the John Durkan Punchestown Chase.
KABRAL CAN STEP UP IN TRIP
⭕ 1.15 Haydock A lightly-weighted youngster wins this handicap hurdle which seems to predict a battle Andashan should win against Kabral Du Mathan.
But Dan Skelton is keen to prove a point with the progressive ‘Kabral’, stepping him up in trip first run since he was switched from his old guv’nor, Paul Nicholls.
Never out of the first two in his career to date and second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle, has earned his 140 mark.
⭕ 2.25 Haydock Joe Tizzard steps Hartington up in trip and books Sean Bowen to add to the stable’s double at Ascot yesterday. This is a big field of potential but Hartington is in the right place in the handicap. BETDAQ 7.5.
AGE OF THE SKELTONS DAWNING
⭕ 3.00 Haydock (Grade-1 Lancashire Chase) Royal Pagaille goes for a hat-trick but with Venetia Williams currently 0-15, and last year’s two-lengths runner-up, Grey Dawning, another Skelton, can turn the tables.
Grade-1 novice winner Handstands is on the upgrade, and Rebecca Curtis tests what targets to have for her Irish Grand National winner, Haiti Couleurs.
⭕ 3.35 Haydock An old favourite of mine, Famous Bridge, won this two years ago and has been set up for a repeat with a run over hurdles three weeks back. The ground is right unless it gets heavy. BETDAQ 7.9 taken.
REVELEY RAID COULD FOIL PIC
⭕ 1.30 Ascot Chase Paul Nicholls is expecting a hat-trick for Pic D’Orhy, who won this 16 lengths two years ago and made all from a small field last November.
But the bigger difference is that this time isn’t his first run back: he was beaten a length by Djelo in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby three weeks ago, stepped up to 3m.
Il Est Francais won the Kauto Star Novices at Kempton on King George day 2023 (going good) but his rating was largely built on very soft ground in France until he returned to Kempton and ran second in the King George itself last Christmas (good again).
James Reveley, third in the French jumps table with 76 winners, comes over for the ride.
Jango Baie has never been out of the frame in nine starts but his best form is at Cheltenham (won the Arkle in March).
SPUR ON THE HIDDEN TALENT
⭕ 2.05 Ascot (Berkshire National) Joe Tizzard is now 12-30 (40% strike) and jockey Brendan Powell is 26% (from 8-31). It’s a magical resurgence by the team from Milborne Port.
Can they make a big winner of Rock My Way, second in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham, and then fifth in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr.
Aged only seven, still with a low mark but festooned with aids: tongue-tie after two breathing ops and wearing blinkers.
Our Power, nearly five lengths in front of him at Ayr, and giving him another 4lb today, is 10 now, set 12st today and having trouble stepping over the threshold, four big-race places in a row without winning.
Third in the Munster National, Aspurofthemoment could be the hidden talent, now emerging at age only six.
He is by the same sire as Mr Vango. He was eight and nine when he won the London National, Peter Marsh and Midlands Grand National in sequence.
DINO AGAINST ALL THE ODDS
⭕ 2.40 Ascot Hurdle Just how good is Celtic Dino? He gave 7lb and a beating in the Welsh Champion Hurdle to Alexei, winner of the Greatwood last weekend.
He has a huge task here at the weights against Wodhooh, who had scored seven in a row (including the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham) before put in his place at Aintree by Lossiemouth, long odds on for the Morgiana at Punchestown today.
Wodhooh is rated 154, some 10lb ahead of Celtic Dino but, under the race conditions, gets 7lb from his main rival.
Best outsider is Crambo, who has won two Long Walks on this course and is rated even higher than Wodhooh. Betdaq Betting Exchange 19.5.
⭕ 3.15 Ascot (Hurst Park Chase) Venetia Williams is hoping for a form breakthrough with Martator, who won this last year for a fifth straight win.
He’s been in nowhere land since but at least he’s had a run back and his rating has crashed to a pound below the last of his four-timer. You can take off another 5lb for Ned Fox’s allowance.
In fact, he gives 2lb less to Kotmask than when beating that one 11 lengths to win last year’s race.
Teddy Blue comes here to back up a recent CD win and is the obvious danger to all.
