COOL HAND DAQMAN LANDS THREE NAPS IN A ROW: Daqman followed up his double of supernaps at Sandown on Thursday with a hot Frankie Dettori nap special that was a super Cool 3-1 winner at Goodwood yesterday:
WON 3-1 UBER COOL (Friday nap, Goodwood)
WON 4-6 POET’S WORD (Thursday supernap, Sandown)
WON 4-6 WITHOUT PAROLE (Thursday supernap, Sandown)
HE’S THE CLASSIC TIPSTER 108 POINTS IN FRONT: Daqman goes into Irish Guineas weekend with a 27-7 lead over Pricewise of the Racing Post for value winners this season in races nominated by him. Daqman is 108 points clear to a single-unit stake (+34 Daqman to -74 Pricewise). Now read his ABC guide.
ELARQAM TO LOWER BALLYDOYLE FLAG
4.10 The Curragh (Irish 2,000 Guineas)
A Raced in the last three weeks (100%)
B 7f-plus winner already (88%)
C Ran at Newmarket on the last day (88%)
D Drawn in first four stalls (69%)
E Group-1 winner already (69%)
F Trained Aidan O’Brien (50%)
X Stable in top form
ABCDE Elarqam
A son of Frankel, fourth in the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas, with Roaring Lion and Gustav Klimt just behind.
The second horse home, whom he beat last season, had had a run back already and this was only Elarqam’s third public appearance, but he needs to find that final-furlong surge.
ABCFX Gustav Klimt
A Galileo out of a Danehill mare, completed a hat-trick when winning the Leopardstown 2,000 Trial but was only sixth in the first Classic at Newmarket.
ABEFX U S Navy Flag
War Front son of a Galileo mare, last of four in the Leopardstown trial (heavy) and only fifth in the French Guineas after stumbling badly.
Needs to bounce back to form of Dewhurst success over subsequent UAE Derby winner Mendelssohn but had the run of the race that day.
ABC Symbolization
Handicap success at Newmarket on the last day leaves him with a lot to find but is Godolphin’s choice.
ABD Theobald
Last but one in Leopardstown Derby Trial won by Hazapour. Had weakened two out.
ABD Zihba
Fozzy Stack’s son of Choisir out of a Galileo mare wants fast ground.
AFX Threeandfourpence
War Front out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, likely Aidan O’Brien pacemaker.
A Romanised and Would Be King; D Landshark; FX Spanish Point
VERDICT With four going to post, Aidan O’Brien is hard to oppose but so is Guineas form, and Elarqam is entitled to improve after just three starts.
Excuses continue to be made for U S Navy Flag and it’s true that his sister Roly Poly made a similarly inauspicious start to her second season until landing three out of four Group-1 wins with the sun on her back.
GRAND GREY RIDE FOR GERALD: 12.5
2.30 Goodwood Gerald Mosse has ben doing well over here, and Grand Koonta, well drawn in 3, has improved over the winter from two to three, and I’ve been waiting for the grey to step up to 7f. I could get 12.5 on BETDAQ early mouse.
From a bad draw, Zap didn’t get competitive at York until too late. He has a nice lie today in 5, with jockey Callum Shephered scoring on four days out of five this week. But he has won only his maiden, always a bad sign.
Society Poet (stall 2) is a big strong sort, who has stretched his winning sequence o four. Fennaan, fourth to him at Ascot, could get his revenge at the weights out of the one stall but is a difficult ride, and we need all of the 9.8 offers.
2.50 Haydock (Silver Bowl) Crack On Crack On got progressively closer to another stylish improver, Qaysar, last term and is 12lb better with that one for a length on the last time they met.
The pair are 6.6 and 4.5 respectively in the BETDAQ orange, drawn adjacent in 5 and 6, whereas the next three in the morning market, Completion, Finniston Farm and Highland Reel are in stalls 12, 14 and 16, seemingly having their work cut out to get a position.
Any rain would help 17.5 offer Crownthorpe (holds Book of Dreams) who just weakened out of it in a classy handicap at Newmarket, won by Irish Guineas hopful, Symbolisation.
Jamie Spencer is an artist at weaving through big fields and judging a fine finish. He could have ridden two or three here (Highland Reel?) but plumps for Adjutant, a 33.0 offer. Not a stable I like but the horse has done nothing wrong.
SANDS OF MALI FAHEY ASCOT DREAM
3.25 Haydock (Sandy Lane Stakes) One of the best races of the day, with James Garfield representing the 2,000 Guineas form (seventh at Newmarket) before we get to the Curragh Classic.
Invincible Army is very close to him on form but both have finished behind Sands Of Mali, who is Richard Fahey’s big hope for Royal Ascot.
3.40 York A double-figure stall has never won this and 2 beat 1 in a similar race here at the Dante meeting, won by El Astronaute, who is up 3lb for it and now drawn near the old chocolate factory in 17.
Offered on BETDAQ at 9.6, Carlton Frankie (fourth) tried to make all from gate 12 that day. This time he will have the rail to help him from stall 3.
Duke Of Firenze (from 6) has won at one of the York May meetings for the last two seasons.
Dakota Gold, from the one stall, should turn around the autumn form over the York CD with Major Jumbo, at the revised weights, and looked big this morning at 11.5 to get his scalp.
SUPERNAP BATTAASH OUT ON HIS OWN
4.00 Haydock (Temple Stakes) Battaash is out of the top draw, 10lb clear in the ratings of anything here. He’s 4-5 (at 1.81 in the BETDAQ orange) which is great value for a supernap.
