THIS FORM IS MIGHTY VALUE

⭕ 2.30 Doncaster (Grimthorpe Chase) LAYS LOGIC: Eight years without a winning favourite and winners’ SPs in the last three seasons of 18-1, 20-1 and 33-1.

Two of those strikes were by Moroder, trained Seamus Mullins and ridden James Best, with form figures going into the race of P0 in 2023 (rated 131) and P4 in 2025 (rated 125) .

He’s P3 today with his rating now down to 120, and with the ground in his favour for a third attempt, now aged 12.

Second in 2024 (but pulled up last year) was Some Scope; back to form on Town Moor in December and could step up for wind surgery since a cross-country run last month when he lost a shoe.

Anthony Honeyball’s Dartmoor Pirate is on a hat-trick after taking the Great Yorkshire here on soft but is up 12lb, giving runner-up New Order 5lb to get revenge over this longer trip.

But both have top targets at the Cheltenham Festival and it’s Dartmoor Pirate who is entered for a marathon.

Thisformismighty bounced back last month and just failed to catch New Order, giving that one 13lb, last year at this time.

BETDAQ 11.0 and a big test for Tristan Durrell, with Harry Skelton riding Protektorat at Kelso (1.40).

The McManus seven-year-old Jasmin De Grugy (Honeyball again) jumped the grades after a five-timer completed a year or so back at a lower level but he’s been a market order since his second in the Pat Taaffe Chase at Punchestown and first-time cheekpieces may help. Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.9.

COPPERHEAD GOLD STANDARD

⭕ 3.15 Newbury (Veterans’ Chase) LAYS LOGIC: Favourites are 100%, and I’m talking 100% losers! In fact, only one has even reached the frame (third) in the last seven seasons!

Brave Kingdom seems well handicapped but it’s not a slog in the mud today and he’s won only in novice events. Gabbys Cross hasn’t scored since July 2022.

Last year’s winner, Sam Brown, is 14 now but has won in February, March or April three years out of four, and has engaged with Grade 2 and 3 players 10 times in two years. BETDAQ 17.5.

Torn And Frayed won a similar veterans’ chase in the autumn and holds a verdict over Eldorado Allen in the previous year.

Eldorado Allen and the chases maiden Mister Coffey are weighted to dead-heat on Cheltenham form in November, and Eldorado’s yard makes a potentially stronger bid for gold today with Copperhead.

Copperhead is a CD winner here and best off at the revised weights from the Veterans Chase Series Final at Market Rasen in January 2025, when he beat both Sam Brown and Eldorado Allen, though that was over 3m. BETDAQ 26.0

TWINJETS HAS THE CUP CLASS

⭕ 3.45 Newbury (Greatwood Gold Cup) LAYS LOGIC: Not one winning favourite on the scoreboard, and no winner shorter than 7-1 SP.

Olly Murphy, who beat Vincenzo getting 5lb a year ago, has another one today, Pleasington, getting 15lb from Vincenzo!

Pleasington finished well over shorter in the Hallowe’en Trophy here at Newbury in December. BETDAQ 10.5 taken.

Glengouly outran Vincenzo in the December Gold Cup at Cheltenham at today’s weights but has to get his own way in front.

Heltenham won the Greatwood in 2024 and followed up on the course three weeks later. His overall Newbury chase form is 11102 but he needs to bounce back (faller behind Vincenzo at Ascot in January).

Twinjets hammered Heltenham 10 lengths over the CD in November and a 9lb revision in the handicap doesn’t look enough. BETDAQ 7.5.

LIVE NAP FOR THE CHAMPION

⭕ 3.30 Kelso Pleasington’s trainer, Olly Murphy, has champion jockey Sean Bowen on my nap of the day, Good To Be Alive.

A late developer with only six starts under Rules, struck form at Plumpton with Bowen able to time his run and exert close home without giving too much away to the handicapper.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
