Wednesday: profit 20.00

DAQMAN 26-15 UP: Daqman leads Pricewise 26-15 as they line up their bets today for the 1.50 Doncaster, 2.05 Newbury, 2.25 Doncaster, 2.40 Newbury.

FORTUNE COOKIE: 2.40 Newbury WARRIORS TALE, is on trial for the Grand National (see list below).

BETA BEST OF THE ALPHA TYPES

1.30 Newbury Significant that winners of this have all been eight years old, the youngest that are allowed to run in this seniors’, formerly veterans’, handicap hurdle.

Significant that two of only three of that age running today were first and second favourites overnight.

Both Betameche and Tapaculo have won only on soft ground or worse but may be lucky because Newbury has watered on good-to-soft and light rain was forecast for this morning.

Tapaculo hasn’t been seen on a racetrack for more than three years, and his stable is in moderate form so, as a recent six-lengths Uttoxeter winner, Betameche gets the vote for a small bet at 3.0 on BETDAQ.

1.50 Doncaster This race is bookie bait, even with the non-runners, which is why it’s a Pricewise race.

Jersey Bean, reassessed 9lb for a Newbury win in November, has gone up 4lb more for being beaten since!

Like Wemyss Point and Faithful Mount, he takes a strong hold, and Who’s My Jockey breaks blood vessels. I’ll try Three Ways at a value 11.5.

Trainer Jamie Snowden is in good form (current figures 12213200010122) and wind ops could improve this Doncaster CD winner beyond his existing handicap mark.

NEWBURY DESTRIER’S DESTINY

2.05 Newbury This is run in the veterans’ chase series and, as with the 1.30, the youngest horses win again: 10-year-olds have bagged seven in a row.

Three of that age group today have claimers in the saddle but the stats say you need a strong senior rider.

Step forward Tom O’Brien on Joe Farrell, not seen since a massive Spring double, launched by his Brown Chamberlin Trophy win on today’s course and completed in the Scottish Grand National.

Joe Farrell, a 10.5 BETDAQ offer as I write, has run just 15 times – only six chases – so he’s a ‘young’ 10-year-old, capable of shrugging off a 7lb rise. His form after a break is 1141.

There have been excuses for 6.8 offered Carole’s Destrier (hampered, cheekpieces loose) since he won over today’s Newbury CD in December, and trainer Neil Mulholland has been back in big-race form this year.

2.25 Doncaster Should we continue to follow Cracking Find (at 3.6 on BETDAQ this morning)? He was just that for us at Doncaster here, and at Wetherby, at Cracking prices (7-2 and 9-2.. and I think you’ll Find that BETDAQ beat the SP).

Nuts Well is better off with Cracking Find, only a length behind when he fell over today’s CD. Movie Legend is consistent, and Copain de Classe can do better for the in-form Paul Nicholls.

But I fancy the 6.0 or so about Theo if the going remains on top. He won gamely, back to back, on summer ground, following five in a row the year before. Dropped in class for an astute stable.

THIS IS JAVERT’S CHELTENHAM

2.40 Newbury (Greatwood Gold Cup) I have stood by Warriors Tale in the Fortune Cookies after Paul Nicholls, who dominates this race, declared the Greatwood as his target, though he pulled up in the old Great Yorkshire at Doncaster after winning the Grand Sefton over the Grand National fences.

The Town Moor target was an obvious one, as he’d finished a neck second in the race a year before. His 17.0 on BETDAQ this morning looks massive.

And Nicholls, eight times winner of the Greatwood, also saddles 9.4 offer Dolos. Failed so far to make the Grades, and won only small-field races, but deserves another crack at them after winning well at Sandown a month ago.

Happy Diva (6.4 this morning) is a great servant to Kerry Lee’s yard, placed 20 times (six wins) in 26 starts. In her last 15 starts, her only failure to reach the frame was when brought down.

Master Dee has won over 3m in this grade but is on a slow wind-up for the Grand National.

Javert (9.4 offers) and War Sound (8.8) have both flopped at Cheltenham so resort to a flat track – this is their festival! – but I can’t remember the last time Philip Hobbs won a chase (currently 3-34, hurdles and a Flat AW winner), so I prefer Javert, a close second to Frodon at Aintree in the autumn.

725 MILES TO WEEKEND GETAWAY

3.15 Kelso Paul Nicholls published thoughts on Getaway Trump have read as if he had the luxury to choose races at Cheltenham – seemingly opting for the Coral Cup from three engagements – but today he warns that the six-year-old might miss one festival for another, Aintree.

And we don’t have much percentage today in trying to get our ante-post investment back. We need to supernap him on his 725-mile round trip.

3.35 Doncaster (Grimthorpe Chase) This race usually reveals a good stayer, as in the last two runnings of the race (called off last year) with Definitly Red and The Last Samurai. It will need one today.

I can see a battle royal between front-runners Rocky’s Treasure and Dingo Dollar. Both have won here on Town Moor, but I just prefer Dingo Dollar, third in the Hennessy (oops! Ladbrokes Trophy. Sorry, boss). I took 4.7 on BETDAQ.
