COOKIES HOT FOR HAT-TRICK
FORTUNE COOKIES: With 12 winners from 17 bets so far and a plus of 85.75 points, we are hoping to see profits hit the 100 mark at 10 to win each of three Cheltenham trialists this afternoon. They are Bravemansgame, Edwardstone and Royal Pagaille.
⭕ 1.15 Newbury On the face of it, Bravemansgame has frightened off convincing opposition but these are novices and this is a handicap, in which he has to give 16-19lb. That’s why he’ s around even money in the BETDAQ orange.
Bravemansgame has already landed his hat-trick over fences, completed by holding off Ahoy Senor at levels in the Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day on his first start over 3m.
He was making up the seven lengths he was beaten in a hurdle at Aintree last Spring by Ahoy Senor, who franked the Boxing Day form with an impressive romp at Wetherby last weekend.
The Chepstow runner-up to Pats Fancy boosted the form with a 10-lengths strike, giving lumps of weight to the placed horses, at Cheltenham two weeks back.
⭕ 2.05 Warwick (Kingmaker Novices’ Chase) Eight of the last nine winners of this went on to Cheltenham and all were beaten.
That’s a worry for those who have already lumped on Edwardstone and want to see him enhance his reputation here at around even money in a race of four winners of 21 races.
He is another hat-trick winner over fences, 15 lengths in front of For Pleasure in the first leg, which was here at Warwick.
In his Henry V111 chase win at Sandown in December, he had the then leading British Arkle hope, Third Time Lucki, 16 lengths behind. Lucki can do better than that but the handicapper still rates him 6lb off reversing the form.
A bigger worry may be Brave Seasca, a 24lb improver in a December and January handicaps hat-trick, but still with his novice certificate and unpenalised for this.
⭕ 2.25 Newbury (Denman Chase) In normal circumstances, Clan Des Obeaux might be odds on here, as Aintree Bowl scorer and Punchestown Gold Cup winner over Al Boum Photo, a Cheltenham Gold Cup star.
But he was turned over in this race at 6-5 favourite by a 14-1 outsider last year and he was left standing, probably needing his first run back, in the King George by another long-shot, Tornado Flyer.
Add to that the poor form of Paul Nicholls’ stable (1-37 or 3%) and there’s every chance that Fortune-Cookie Royal Pagaille can continue his rise to stardom after an impressive Peter Marsh double though, for preference, he needs rain. BETDAQ 2.88
CHIPS ARE DOWN ON BURGER
⭕ 3.35 Newbury The old Schweppes and Tote Gold Trophy has been won three times in the last eight years by novices trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies. Two of the three came straight from novice hurdles; one of them won an open handicap but still had his novice certificate.
Before I Like To Move It won the Supreme Novices trial at Cheltenham in November, he had beaten Tritonic, keeping on strongly, also at Cheltenham, in receipt of 8lb, completing a hat-trick.
They meet again at the same weights difference today, with Tritonic trying to become the first since Persian War (1968) to carry more than 11st 8lb to victory in this race.
Glory and Fortune – bang on 11st 8lb – is a Welsh Champion Hurdle winner, runner-up to Epatante in the Christmas Hurdle but seven now and vulnerable to the young improvers.
First Street, who cruised up at Kempton last month, is now 10lb worse off with the third, Gary Moore’s Royaume Uni. Moore has won the race four times and had three others in the first four.
He also runs Fifty Ball, who was second in this last year, and a stone better off for two lengths with Soaring Glory but has his hurdles speed been blunted by a series of novice chases?
The plunge horse this week, Jpr One, is another lightly-raced novice, perhaps too lightly raced for a big field. Colin Tizzard was in top form yesterday but handicap hurdles of this level are not a Team Tizzard forte.
Last year’s winner, Soaring Glory, is old for this at seven, and a repeat win was last achieved by Rosyth in 1964. Soaring Glory has the tongue-tied Boothill right on his tail, based on first and third at Ascot in October.
Broomfield Burg (Nico De Boinville for J P McManus)) was runner-up here in November and an impressive 10-lengths winner at Kempton on Boxing Day. There’s been money for the Burger all week.
Knappers Hill has been backed despite the stable’s poor form; he is another who has to emerge from the novice ranks.
Finished in front of I Like To Move It when third at Ascot behind Jonbon in December but it was a one-horse ‘race.’

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
