BULL’S-EYE BETS AT 21.0 AND 39.0 on BETDAQ: After his 18-1 winner on Thursday, Daqman is smarting from four seconds in five races yesterday, including a bull’s-eye bet on Pink Crystal, beaten threeparts of a length at 5-1 from 10.5 on BETDAQ. There are more today at 11.5, 13.5, 18.0, 21.0 and 39.0.
DAQMAN’S COUNTDOWN TO AYR STALLS BIAS: The hopeful view is that yesterday’s Ayr sprint results reveal the draw bias for the Silver and Gold Cups today. Daqman puts the facts in the balance and they could be worth their weight in gold!
IN-FORM VARIAN IS CUP CHAMPION
⭕ 1.55 Ayr (Doonside Cup) Eight of 10 winners have gone to southern raiders but this time only Roger Varian (Royal Champion) and Ed Walker (Stormy Antarctic) fancy a crack at the £28,000 prize, and Stormy is a bit old to rely on, aged nine.
Phantom Flight was pushed up 10lb in the ratings for the last of his three wins from the last four. It might have been four from four but he was denied a clear run at the July Meeting.
Royal Champion (BETDAQ 4.7) looks capable of winning a Listed, after running well in Grade-3 since an easy win in a handicap at the Epsom Derby meeting.
CROWLEY OPTIONS ON 39.0 DRAGON
⭕ 2.30 Ayr (Silver Cup) STATS: Results by stall in the decade; far side: 2, 4 (twice) and 5; near side: 20, 23, 26, 27
The 12-runner Harry Rosebery yesterday went to 10 (down the middle) from 9; the Scottish Sprint resulted in 16, 13, 9, 10, 18, 11 (of 18) and the Bronze Cup 1-2-3-4-5 came out of 23, 25, 2, 17 and 24 (of 26)
LOW today: Emperor Spirit (1) has scored only on AW; Lovely Breeze (2) and Good Earth (4) only in class 4 and 5. Aplomb (3), a class-2 winner with cut in the ground, was back to form the last day; Bernardo O’Reilly (5) and Asadjujmeirah (6) are distance winners. But the near-to-middle high stalls had it all their own way yesterday:
HIGH Jump The Gun (25) has won twice over 7f since June and is up a stone. Mark’s Choice (19) has done well since wearing a visor for new stables (form 321) but his wins in the last year have been in class 4. Vintage Clarets (18) has won only over 5f.
Edward Cornelius (20) is likely to set a strong pace down the near rail. Roman Dragon (16) has won only in class 4 but has some fair form at a higher level and Jim Crowley can stay in the middle or come across.
Aberama Gold (Ayr form 31022) is 4lb better off for half a length with Snash on their one-two in the Ayr Gold Cup Trial, and has gate 22. Aplomb 5lb better with Snash, third though denied a clear run at Thirsk, is in gate 3 today.
Hyperfocus, Aberama Gold and Fortamour were 4th, 5th, 6th behind Gale Force Maya in the Dash at York and today come out of stalls 23, 22 and 17 respectively.
BETDAQ value 13.5 Aberama Gold, 21 Aplomb, 39 Roman Dragon
18.0 VADREAM BIG VALUE ON CLASS
⭕ 3.40 Ayr (Gold Cup) STATS: Results by stall in the decade: 19, 19, 8, 8, 17, 21, 24, 13, 25.
The 12-runner Harry Rosebery yesterday went to 10 (down the middle) from 9; the Scottish Sprint resulted in 16, 13, 9, 10, 18, 11 (of 18) and the Bronze Cup 1-2-3-4-5 came out of 23, 25, 2, 17 and 24 (of 26).
LOW today: Big-field placed at the July Meeting, Khanjar is now on three out of four after a ready victory at Haydock; gate 5.
Seventh in this last year, Comanche Falls (9) was giving 12lb when going down threeparts of a length to Summerghand (12) at the York Ebor Meeting, with Mr Wagyu fifth.
Fivethousandtoone (stall 3 today) earned himself a 5lb penalty at Goodwood to get into this but that was his only win in 13 Flat turf starts and he’s a difficult ride.
Chifofchiefs (4) hasn’t won for more than two years but is at last back to that winning mark. Tinto (2) was 8th in the Silver Cup last year, Bergerac (8), currently on a hat-trick, was 14th. Aleezdancer (1) is consistent; still has potential off a low mark.
HIGH: Last year’s gold went to Bielsa who railed to victory out of gate 25, with Mr Wagyu third. He’s only a pound higher and again has a decent draw in 17. Motagally (4th out of gate 15) is 4lb lower in the ratings and now starts in gate 22 for a new stable.
Gulliver ( 25) has his 73rd race today; third in 2019 but 13th last year. Popmaster wore blinkers for the only time when 17th last year from stall 11. He is now in 23 after being second in the Wokingham.
Vadream (21), Group-3 winner last autumn and fifth in the British Champions Sprint, returned to form when beaten a head on the July Course the last day in first–time cheekpieces.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 6.4 Khanjar, 11.5 Bielsa, 18 Vadream
SAKHEER FOR THE FORTUNE COOKIES
⭕ 2.50 Newbury (Mill Reef Stakes) The first runner in our autumn list of Fortune Cookies is Sakheer (BETDAQ 2.26), winner of only a class-4 novice at Haydock but did it in a canter. His sire, Zoffany, got within a length of Frankel at Royal Ascot.
Shouldvebeenaring beat only a maiden winner at York then his Ripon runner-up, Bolt Action, disappointed at Ayr yesterday.
His stablemate Wallop might have a brighter future, after a Newmarket third to subsequent Gimcrack winner, Noble Style.
Clive Cox won this race in 2016 and 2021 and his Heroism turned over an odds-on shot at Salisbury.
But Roger Varian seems to have the race in a Reef knot, not only saddling Sakheer but also aiming Charyn at the race, as you would of one with two Mill Reef winners in his pedigree.
⭕ 3.25 Newbury Just as Roger Varian seems to have the Mill Reef sorted, so Charlie Appleby looks good for this handicap, with Warren Point having made it three out of four when scoring at Goodwood, and fresh horse Ottoman Fleet back to the trip of his Newmarket Listed win in May after fourth in the King Edward V11 (Ascot Derby) in June.
BETDAQ value 4.5 Warren Point, 8.3 Ottoman Fleet.
