TWO OUT OF TWO FOR THE BOYS: Daqman’s search for the best apprentices paid off (two bets, two wins) this week with Gascony (WON 3-1) for Tommie Jakes yesterday following Ashley Lewis on Spirit Of The Breeze (WON 11-4) and his tips for unraced two-year-olds are three out of four.

TODAY: 12.0 and 18.0 bull’s-eye bets in the big handicap at Ripon.
TOMORROW: Group racing at Deauville; Flying Fillies at Pontefract.
NEXT WEEK: the Ebor meeting at York.

GREY SURE TO LAND DOUBLE

⭕ 2.05 Newmarket (Grey-horse handicap): As the Shergar Cup slides into oblivion, with four visiting jockeys banned a total of 32 days, another desperate telly-babies gimmick returns to the screen. Or should that be slides down the lens!

All the horses are grey (geddit?). Not black (no one dare say ‘black’), not reddish (‘roan’ or ‘chesnut’); not bay or brown. GREY!

Wait for it: Big Ed’s feed to Sally Ann in the parade ring: “I can’t tell them apart; can you (scripted pause) I hope you can; it’s your job.”

Well, one’s called Addison GREY and one’s called Grenham BAY, prompts the ever astute Bell boy. ‘One of them’s Archduke Ferdinand’, says ex-jockey, jocular Jason; ‘I saw him win it last year.. Or, at least, I think it was him!’

CHORUS IS ON SONG AT 7-1

⭕ 2.25 Newbury: Faustus won this race last year but has already had his summer success at Newbury and his yard is 0-13 in the last three weeks.

So maybe Jack Channon can repeat his 2023 win with a three-year-old. Today’s – Getreadytorumble – is 10lb higher but Star Chorus was unfancied at 25-1 when having traffic problems behind him at Goodwood and now gets a stone. Around 7-1 this morning.

Rhythm And Hooves has not been disgraced in five of his six class-2 starts but his success this year has come in class 4 at Southwell.

PACE BOOSTS FOR LEADMAN

⭕ 3.00 Newbury: After climbing from 81 to 94 last summer, Lou Lou’s Gift had a year off and has had a quiet return, last seen not punished in a Group 3 at Ascot three weeks ago. BETDAQ 15.0.

Classic went down only a neck to Two Tribes in the International at Ascot last month and Richard Hannon yard landed a double here yesterday after firing 53 blanks.

But another who ran into a wall at Goodwood, Leadman had given weight and a beating to previous winner, Up The Pace, with Two Tribes third a fortnight earlier. BETDAQ 7.3.

Cogitate looks nicely placed in the handicap, with his winning jockey in the Spring, Billy Loughnane, back on board but, like Hannon, Charles Hills has only just bounced back with a winner (1-25) after a long losing spell.

ALZAHIR ZIP AND STAMINA

⭕ 3.20 Ripon (Great St Wilfrid Handicap): For 15 years now since Henry Candy won it, the North has held on to this £50,000 prize, mainly via their shrewdies Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey and David O’Meara (three winners each).

But extremely dangerous on their day, Saeed Bin Suroor (‘hidden horse’ City Walk) and Scotland’s brave Jim Goldie (7lb claimed off Abduction) can’t be left out of calculations, despite 12.0 and 18.0 BETDAQ offers.

Stalls 15, 16, 17 and 19 (twice) have dominated, with 12.0 Alzahir (17) catching the eye (as does the booking of Luke Morris); speedy enough to be a winner over 5f at Ascot (firm) in this grade but tough enough to score over a mile and 7f (heavy).

Abduction has also won at 6f and 7f and City Walk has won in today’s grade at Meydan (6f) and landed a gamble in the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle.

DUTY A NEWBURY DARLING

⭕ 3.35 Newbury (Hungerford Stakes): Only two three-year-olds have won this in the decade, both trained by William Haggas.

The four-year-old he relies on this time, More Thunder, comes out bottom of the ratings but he’s steadily put on 16lb in four handicap races, despite dropping in trip since he moved to Haggas this year (form 1121).

This is a big step up while, at the same time, Archie Watson’s three-year-old Duty First drops down in grade below the level of his Fred Darling win; that was at Newbury over today’s trip but 19.5 is offered (3.85 a place on Betdaq Betting Exchange).

King’s Gamble has done well in Group races but hasn’t won since his maiden on debut, always a bad sign

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
