SEVEN SUPERNAPS! STRADIVARIUS THE COMPLETE RACEHORSE: Amazing price. Amazing horse. The class and courage of the entire Stradivarius gave Daqman SEVEN consecutive winning supernaps yesterday. He’s back for another million-pound season. The complete horse in every way!
The seven supernaps in a row
WON 4-5 STRADIVARIUS (Yorkshire Cup)
WON 1-3 LAH TI DAR (Middleton Stakes, York)
WON 10-11 CAPE VICTORY
WON 1-2 PERSIAN KING (French 2,000 Guineas)
WON 2-5 BROOME (Leopardstown Derby Trial)
WON 2-1 ANTHONY VAN DYCK (Lingfield Derby Trial)
WON 5-4 CIRCUS MAXIMUS (Dee Stakes)
NUMBER EIGHT IN THE CRYSTAL BALL PLUS A BULL’S-EYE GAMBLE: Today Daqman is torn between Laurens and Crystal Ocean for an eighth supernap on the trot. His head says Crystal Ocean to keep the sequence going. His heart says Laurens. But there’s such fantastic value on BETDAQ that Laurens can land a bull’s-eye bet for only around a 10-point outlay.
LAURENS LAURELS FOR COURAGE
Fantastic Stradivarius just wants to win. Have you seen another horse so determined, so courageous, always wanting to be the leader? I have.
Just look back at races won by the fabulous filly Laurens, as sheer class and guts grabbed her four Group-1 prizes from May to October in 2018.
Can she do it again today (see 3.40 Newbury, below: Fabulous 5.7 The Filly On BETDAQ)?
Laurens! Prix Saint-Alary, May, Longchamp: rallied gamely, led final 110 yards.
Laurens! French Oaks, June, Chantilly: driven, held on gamely from host of rivals.
Laurens! Matron Stakes, September, Leopardstown: made all, kept on well to assert.
Laurens! Sun Chariot Stakes, October, Newmarket: led 5f out, kept on well, gamely.
CRYSTAL ALL SET TO SPARKLE AGAIN
1.50 Newbury Koncheck kept Group company in five consecutive races last season (second in the July Stakes), and continued in the Pattern with a fair third to the very smart Calyx in the Commonwealth Cup Trial in April.
Drops down in grade here after wind ops but has won only his maiden first time out, which is always a bad sign.
Moyassar is top-rated after winning at Newmarket a fortnight back. Despite wind ops, he was hanging markedly in the final furlong. Red Impression would be the bet if we knew he could transfer AW form to turf.
The quirky Khaadem was kept to a modest level as a juvenile but clearly had scope for this season. His quirky brother took this race 10 lengths (disqualified) but never ‘won’ another!
I had my pound on Space Traveller, 11.0 the win to land 20 points in the BETDAQ orange, with around 2-1 the place backed to win 10 points. Took on the likes of Ten Sovereigns last year and was second in the Free Handicap in April to the subsequent 2,000 Guineas fifth.
2.25 Newbury It’s been a good week for buying money, and Crystal Ocean (off 125) is nearly a stone ahead of his nearest rival, Laraaib (112), as he bids for back-to-back success in this Group 3, with the third best in, Raymond Tusk, lumbered with a penalty.
STONE A SOLID BET IN THE GOLD CUP
3.00 Newbury (London Gold Cup) Six of the last eight winners have been drawn in the lowest three stalls, from which Forest of Dean could confirm Doncaster placings with Ritchie Valens, despite a turnaround in the weights.
But there was only a neck between Solid Stone and Forest of Dean on AW over shorter before Solid Stone got the better of War Tiger at Newmarket.
The pace-setting The Trader looks sure to set them all a test from the front. What a line-up with 4lb separating nine horses! So what shall it be?
Last night’s early money was for Sinjaari, impressive maiden winner at Windsor in April. Roger Charlton could be the Headman: he’s won the race three times in eight years.
On a day I started off talking about courage and gameness in the horse, the verdict has to be for 5.6 BETDAQ favourite Solid Stone, who has shown the guts of a Laurens or a Stradivarius, and his stable has won this race five times.
Majestic Dawn, Korcho and Good Birthday all have scope for improvement but only Good Birthday attracted support this morning. The two others, plus bridesmaid Htilominio were unfancied from 20.0 to 34.0. So Forest of Dean became my ‘outsider’ at around 8.0.
3.15 Newmarket Three of the last five winners had been placed at the Craven meeting or on the Guineas card. That applies to Yousini, who was 3lb better for the length Top Breeze beat him by just a month ago, when Yousini didn’t get the rub of the green. Huge at 9.8.
Despite the withdrawal of Top Breeze this morning, Naughty Rascal, fourth at Newmarket, and who would have been better off with both, drifted like a lonely dog on a raft in the BETDAQ orange, well over my betting weir for the race, 28.0.
Dazzling Dan is vulnerable as a front-runner, with both Luxor and Moraawed
likely to improve. It’s a sprint, so I had 8.6 Luxor, so taking two against the favourite, Moraawed.
FABULOUS 5.7 THE FILLY ON BETDAQ
3.40 Newbury (Lockinge Stakes) Laurens has landed three Group 1 events against just one Group 3 for Le Brivido, who has not won a race for nearly two years and has appeared only twice since, including runner-up in the French Guineas.
One of the Ballydoyle ‘Lads’ bought into him and he moved from Andre Fabre to Aidan O’Brien, who trained him to be third, as favourite, in the Gladness Stakes, also Group 3.
Lord Glitters and Mustashry, both aged six, were one-two at that level at York in the summer. Unless the race is substandard, six-year-olds don’t win it; why on earth should they beat the young improvers? In fact, just two have scored in 35 years.
Lord Glitters went down a neck to Beat The Bank over a mile in July. At least Beat The Bank has won four Group-2 races so, strictly, has better form than Le Brivido.
The handicapper has them both on 116, a pound behind Laurens, who is 4lb clear because she has the sex allowance. A fabulous 5.7 in the BETDAQ orange this morning, the more so because not a lot of money for Le Brivido at 5.9.
