DAQMAN NEEDS ONE FOR 50 HITS AGAINST PRICEWISE THIS SEASON: Daqman squares up to Pricewise today in the 2.20 Newbury, 2.00 and 2.35 Newmarket and 3.45 Ripon, the Great St Wilfrid, needing one more winning bet to go 50 up against his archrival: current score 49-28. The Hungerford at 3.30? Pricewise has bottled it.
HUKUM TO LAND A NEWBURY DOUBLE
⭕ 2.00 Newmarket Eileendover backwards and did the Military Two Step to give the soft-ground horses a chance but had to reject them along with Wolver winner twice, Midrarr, who also seems up against it on good to firm.
Contrary to breeding indications, the Australia filly Goolwa (BETDAQ 3.95) has raced as if needing today’s step up in trip. Quenelle d’Or should like it but is usually a front-runner. Their stables are both in hot form.
⭕ 2.20 Newbury (Geoffrey Freer Stakes) The Grand Cup one-two at York, Roberto Escobarr and Red Verdon, face last year’s winner, Hukum.
Hukum took advantage of the three-year-old allowances that day but there’s no similar animal against him here and he can do the double. I’ve asked for evens, and I’ll let that stand all day.
The three-year-old Recovery Run seems best with some cut and has been struggling unfancied at odds from 12-1 to 40-1 since disappointing on his seasonal debut in the Sandown Classic Trial.
Rodrigo Diaz has progressed 37lb through handicap form of 1112132 but makes a big leap from class-4 winner to Group 3.
Progressive she may be but Golden Pass is another whose breeding is against this step up in trip and she beat only novices here the last day.
⭕ 2.35 Newmarket This sprint for grey horses has been won twice by Case Key and last year by My Style.
Another CD winner, 6.0 on BETDAQ Devil’s Angel, put back-to-back wins together at Newcastle in March. Can he hold his form again for another course double after winning at the Newmarket July meeting last month?
31.0 TROUBADOR IS A HIDDEN HORSE
⭕ 3.10 Ripon (Silver Trophy Consolation) A high-stalled prominent player (drawn 16, 20, 20, 14 and 18) has won the last five times down the stands rail.
Ghathanfar (from stall 20 today) was beaten only about a neck at York, leading two out and involved in a three-way photo with Mr Wagyu, the Stewards Cup winner at Goodwood since, and prominent in the main race today.
Pace horse Troubador (15), blinkered first time today, paid heavily for a fabulous two-year-old sequence of 1211122, but is now back to a winning mark.
Bossipop (18) has won at Ripon but prefers a bit of juice in the ground. Mythmaker (19) has plummeted down the handicap since winning small-field races three and more years back now.
On the far side, Danzan (2) is very hard to win with; the CD winner Citron Major was back to winning form the last day. Like Fortamour, his chances of putting two wins together are slim.

⭕ 3.30 Newbury (Hungerford Stakes) The oddballs of Flat racing – those served best by 7f – come together here, with eight of the 10 already scorers over the in-between distance.
The last five Hungerford winners had won a Group race or been second in a Group 1, which today gives you D’bai, Dreamloper, Nando Parrado, Sacred and Tactical.
Seven of the last eight took ratings to post of 111 to 117. Earlier a second-season animal had won it off 117, the famous poor relation, Excelebration. His lot in life was to finish second to Frankel five times.
Stuck in the bridesmaid slot today is Njord, with handicap-only success, form in the Pattern of 403220 and a static rating for five consecutive races.
Al Suhail’s rating was also static until he was third then unplaced in two Meydan Group 1s. Result: the horse whose name means ‘brilliant’ was dropped 2lb and gelded!
Top-rated Motakhayyel (9) came within a length of taking the Group-3 Criterion Stakes in June in fast time, despite being slowly away.
He then motored clear in the Bunbury Cup before failing to give Danyah 6lb in the International but wouldn’t have had to do that at levels today.
The morning market was reformed when Maktoum (Shadwell) withdrew Danyah and left Motakhayyel to do the job but, sacre bleu, the (Godolphin) Maktoums also have Al Suhail and D’bai.
Wouldn’t Cheveley Park just love to roast them all! Instead of beating yourself up about the in-and-out handicap form, try their Sacred filly at a price.
Winner of the Nell Gwyn (7f) and has been given time since being behind Mother Earth in the 1,000 Guineas. Group-3 winner and Group-2 second twice.
Comes here fresh, getting the allowances, working like a dream, and the only one backed during the week. `

ALL STACKS UP TO STAXTON AGAIN
⭕ 3.45 Ripon (Great St Wilfrid Handicap) For three years running, the stands’ side draw has beaten the far side in a one-two across the track: 19-7, 15-5, 17-4. The last five winners all made all!
The near side high numbers today have a front-runner in Gale Force Maya (18). Mokaatil (12) and Abate (14) can both travel strongly.
Mr Magyu (11) and Music Society (7), winner and fourth in the Stewards Cup, have both been thumped by the handicapper. Intrinsic Bond (20) is also high in the handicap).
Those on the far side include Brad The Brief (3), a soft-heavy winner in France, Mr Lupton (6), who was third last year; he just couldn’t quite get to Staxton, who made all from a near-side stall 17 (at 4lb lower) but is on the other side in 8 today.
Lincoln Park (from 9) beat Soul Seeker (16) at Chester over 5.5f, then went back to the same course to score again over 7.5f, while Soul Seeker has landed back-to-back wins over 5f.
What muddles the race for betting purposes is that Tim Easterby runs six, with money overnight for Staxton, Lampang (high in the handicap for what he’s done but has his ground today) and Golden Apollo (won only once in last 34 starts).
I’m struggling with the pace down the stands rail and reckon Staxton could make it all happen on the far side. If so, and he can cope with the firmer ground, Lincoln Park will be staying on against him; still well weighted.
