DAQMAN ON FIRE WITH A WINNER A DAY: Daqman maintained his winner a day with a sparkling show from Fire Dancer yesterday.

WON 9-4 FIRE DANCER (Friday)
WON 6-1 BIT HARSH (Thursday dead-heat from BETDAQ 9.4)
WON 11-10 LOUP DE MAULDE (Wednesday nap)
WON 4-6 BERNARD SPIERPOINT (Tuesday nap)

SANDOWN VALUE BUT A NEWCASTLE NAP: Daqman has bets at 10.5 and 10.0 twice at Sandown but opens with a bet at Newcastle, which he rates the nap. Headlines:

10.5 PRECIOUS BETDAQ VALUE

⭕ 1.15 Sandown Making all at Southwell has cost Gemirande a 10lb hike and a consequent rise in class but second and third that day won immediately before or after, and today’s soft ground is arguably better for yet another Pau purchase to enter Venetia Williams’ stable.

The down side, evident from his running style and as admitted by jockey Charlie Deutsch, is that Gemirande likes his own way.

There’s a difference between railing left-handed around the Southwell turns and right-handed roller-coaster Sandown, where you must hold your fire until the descent, and then have enough left for a potential fight on the uphill finish.

Peejaybee has won over hurdles at Sandown but his jumping has been faulty over fences. Sopran Thor is another chancer but has more experience, while stablemate High Up In The Air won five in a row at a lower level at this time two years ago.

Scipion’s decent hurdles form has put him in off a highish mark over fences. Certainly Red is also on a lofty rating.

Rain rather than the big weight could hamper the Mares’ Novices Handicap Final winner, Precious Eleanor, just 6lb higher than for that Cheltenham strike, when she went 15 lengths clear.

But she was winner or second in seven consecutive mares’ chases – five times favourite – until being stepped up in trip for her autumn reappearance.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 10.5 Precious Eleanor

FOLLOW HUGHES AT NEWCASTLE

⭕ 12.48 Newcastle Venetia Williams taught Nicky Henderson a lesson yesterday when she won with Fire Dancer first time from France but, in similar circumstances, Impose Toi was beaten on the run-in through freshness, fighting for his head most of the way. Punters shouldn’t have to watch!

In a later race, our 16-1 shot (from 22.0 on BETDAQ), the veteran Head To The Stars, was primed to perfection by Henry Daly and missed out the finish only because of an awkward jump at the last, when two lengths down.

Another reliable trainer, but only in the North, is Donald McCain, so reliable that he is responsible for the large part of Brian Hughes’ championship tally, year on year.

But McCain is not so effective away from the Bangor, Carlisle and Sedgefield triangle! And I think Dreams Of Home will miss Hughes and be better back at Kelso and Perth, where the seven-year-old has landed a double with strikes either side of the summer-holiday divide.

McCain and Hughes team up with two horses at Newcastle today, of which Since Day One looks the one to be on at BETDAQ 3.6, four times a hurdles winner there, getting 19lb from Tommy’s Oscar in a novice chase, with Tommy’ stable without a winner for three months.

FRERO BANBOU LOVES THE MUD

⭕ 1.50 Sandown A coincidence double with Since Day One is The Last Day, 5-7, still standing when fresh, though he has to give weight to younger horses in this 1.50 handicap chase at Sandown.

Grey Diamond’s trainer, Sam Thomas, who did so well in the autumn, is missing strike badly with six second or third in a stream of 13 losers.

It must be ladies day, with the battle between Frero Banbou (Venetia Williams) and Corrigeen Rock (Lucinda Russell).

Frero Banbou, third in the Grand Annual in March and runner-up to Thyme White at Ascot in the autumn, is a CD winner, the wetter the better.

Corrigeen Rock gets 12lb and his hat-trick bid means climbing in class again after scoring in class 4 at Kelso and class 3 here at Sandown but, at age six, he has the potential.

BETDAQ value 3.6 Frero Banbou, 4.2 Corrigeen Rock

SPEED WILL BE HARD TO PASS

⭕ 2.25 Sandown (Tolworth Hurdle) Daqman preview: Wednesday

1 Authorised Speed is on a hat-trick mission after autumn prizes scooped at Lingfield and Sandown on the back of a decent effort, fifth, in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival last March.

Vying for favouritism with the Authorised gelding is Tahmuras, three in a row already for Paul Nicholls, if you include his bumper win on home ground at Wincanton.

Back-to-back hurdles success in November included a Haydock Listed but the runner-up that day was then beaten twice by a total of 68 lengths.

The second to Tahmuras earlier at Chepstow, when he broke his hurdles maiden, has finished out of the frame twice since, an overall 35 lengths in rear.

2 Arctic Bresil Henry De Bromhead brings over Arctic Bresil, who romped home in his own maiden at Cork last month from an odds-on Willie Mullins favourite.

3 Tahmuras has something to prove on form but should improve.

BETDAQ value 2.5 Authorised Speed, 5.4 Arctic Bresil

SNOW AND SIVOLA BOTH 10.0

⭕ 3.00 Sandown (Veterans Chase Series Final) Two victories on November days two years apart, with seven defeats in between. That’s Ramses De Teillee’s CV.

One winning January day a year ago among 10 defeats; that’s Prime Venture.

It’s typical of the form of these old boys, and all the punter can do is hope to hit on the right horse on the right day. Catching the eye dropped down the handicap for a stable in form are:

1 Snow Leopardess Prolific winner 2021-22, taking the Becher Chase. Would win this easily at her best. Charlie Longsdon in good form and she was 10.0 on BETDAQ this morning.

2 Coo Star Sivola One-time winner of the Ultima at the Cheltenham festival; 10lb lower than a year ago. Now with trainer-in-form Venetia Williams, and another at 10.0.

3 Prime Venture last year’s winner; 4 Ramses De Teillie

PALLADIUM CAN SHOW AT 18.0

⭕ 3.35 Sandown Palladium landed back-to-back success here on soft-heavy three years back. Down nearly a stone on those days, he’s my ‘hidden horse’ under Nico De Boinville, who rode him then. BETDAQ 18.0 taken.

Iceo is said to be back to the form which prompted a runaway win at Kempton on his first start in England a year or so back: 7.9 offers.

Dr J T Eckleburg, the eye doctor in The Great Gatsby, is well fancied, though I can’t see it myself!

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
