BANKER WINS BUT SCORES REMAIN: DAQMAN 16, PRICEWISE 6: Dandalla Fortune Cookie Banker! That’s a headline to keep in the cuttings book: Dandalla (WON evens from 2.5 BETDAQ). But the rest went on the cutting-room floor after more near misses at big prices: Fidux (2nd 14-1) and Breanski (2nd 11-2 by a neck). The scores remain: Daqman 16, Pricewise 6.

ONE SET TO GO TOP OF THE WORLD
⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Finest Sound loves soft ground but big money for him was blown away in the Britannia when one of Roger Varian’s cruised past.
Despite a double-wind op, he went back in the bridesmaid folder with just one win in class 4 the only break his sequence of 33312 (including behind Palace Pier and Kinross).
Roger has a fair opponent for him today in Establish but his 87 rating was untouched after winning a class 5 at Bath.
Better things are forecast for Eastern World (BETDAQ 4.2), with the easy surface today likely to bring his stamina into play. Haqeeqy is another on the upgrade but I’m not sure about the ground for him.
⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (Superlative Stakes) Nine of the 10 runners are first-time winners! Hudson River made all on the debut at the Curragh just 13 days ago for Aidan O’Brien, who won this with Gustav Klimt (2017).
But the break of a month since Seventh Kingdom (BETDAQ 5.2) scored easily at Doncaster could see the Frankel colt improve tremendously. He looked green and uncertain what was wanted. By coincidence, the dam is a half-sister to Gustav Klimt.
Master Of The Seas is the one with his form franked. Easy Newmarket (Rowley) winner but the runner-up went on to score with similar ease.
ANOTHER DIAMOND FOR JOHNSTON
⭕ 3.15 Ascot (Summer Mile) Terebellum let the Queen Anne form down yesterday but this drop to Group 2 should help the third, seventh and eighth from that race.
Marie’s Diamond had had some racing before that run but Mohaather (seventh) and Skardu (eighth) were on their seasonal debuts, both hampered out of it.
Skardu was beaten in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood last time he was dropped down from the top level and is beginning to look a nearly horse.
And, though you could call Mohaather unexposed, the fact is he’s not won since April last year (Group 3) and needs long breaks between races.
So, with Mark Johnston in devastating form, I’ll try Marie’s Diamond again at 9.4 in the BETDAQ Exchange orange this morning.
⭕ 3.50 Ascot This looks a pinstickers’ race but in fact power sprinters with the resultant big weights dominate the results.
Lahore (BETDAQ 17.5) is 2-2 on turf and Philip Makin has his Yorkshire team in good form. The high draw and Rowan Scott’s claim could just tip the balance in his favour.
HELLO! 5.2 YOUMZAIN LOOKS VALUE
⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (July Cup) With Southern Hills, Aidan O’Brien is up for a hat-trick in this today against a man who farmed the race before the Ballydoyle intervention, Clive Cox scoring twice in five seasons with top sprinters Harry Angel and Lethal Force.
Southern Hills was behind a Cox winner in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot with a potentially even better future, Golden Horde. The Morny and Middle Park runner-up was a ready winner that day on good to soft.
Those closest to the action at the finish were not of the highest level but three-year-olds are four out of five in this July Cup.
Hello Youmzain won the Haydock Sprint on the soft when Sceptical was a disappointing third and Charles Hills’ Khaadem (fourth) looked a bit short of work. Khaadem gets lit up and I’d rather see him drop back to 5f.
The other Hills runner is in the reverse situation. He’s come up a bit of a nearly horse over 5f, so tries 6f in this race today.
The official ratings have Golden Horde and Hello Youmzain on 118 each. I think Youmzain the better value at 5.2 on BETDAQ this morning.
MOORE BOOKED FOR CUP REVENGE
⭕ 4.10 Newmarket (Bunbury Cup) The central ground produced the 7f winner yesterday but this race usually splits and high numbers come out best: 14 (twice), 16 and 19 in the last four years.
That may help Motakhayyel, from 14, to follow up his Buckingham Palace victory (good to soft at Royal Ascot) but his being drawn on the near side that day may have been the reason he beat Mutamaasik, who raced in the centre and won his group.
Offered at 6.0 on BETDAQ, Mutamaasik (Ryan Moore up) is 5lb better off now and is a course and distance winner. Vale Of Kent is also a CD scorer but he doesn’t seem so effective with cut in the ground.
Blown By Wind has won on soft but was a long way behind at Ascot. Stablemate Cardsharp is 8lb lower and down a furlong from his Royal Hunt Cup run last year when I thought he might last out coming to the business end.
Sir Busker won the Royal Hunt Cup this time around but got plenty far enough behind that day to suggest that this drop back to 7f is a wise move.
