DAQMAN’S 200-POINT CESAREWITCH HIT: Daqman likes a flutter at this time of year and his ante-post Cesarewitch outsider has been staked to bring his total return to more than 200 points. HIDDEN PRESCOTT GLORY SHOT

⭕ 2.40 Newmarket, Saturday (Cesarewitch) STATS ABC and form guide in Thursday’s Daqman.

TWO of the last three Cesarewitch winners on the soft carried 8st 6lb and 8st 8lb, and all three were high drawn, 18, 20 and 23. Willie Mullins has won three of the last five renewals.

Those factors and the soft ground have modified the view from Thursday’s guide, giving me the following order in:

1 LOT OF JOY William Buick to ride the Willie Mullins mare signaled my early ante-post bet at 33-1 on this hidden horse and yesterday’s 26.0 each-way on Betdaq Betting Exchange .

She is now below the mark at which she was beaten only a length in last year’s Irish Cesarewitch and has been placed in big fields over hurdles. Still only five

2 GOLDEN SHOT At this time last year, Sir Mark Prescott was celebrating a sensational plot which landed the Arc with his grey mare, Alpinista.

He has quietly engineered another October coup at a big price with Golden Shot, set 8st 8lb and drawn 21. A lot depends on Luke Morris restraining him early and that draw will help my second hidden horse.

3 GRAND PROVIDENCE Three-year-olds used to be regular winners of the Cesarewitch (five out of eight in the 1970s) but just two have scored in the last 25 years.

Here’s a three-year-old filly set only 8st 2lb, never out of the frame, nearly a stone of progress since taking a class-4 at Doncaster and winning the Cesarewitch trial over today’s CD the last day.

4 PIED PIPER If this develops into a slog, he’s your man, a classy sort, second in the County Hurdle, sixth in the Ascot Stakes (2m 4f). Out of stall 22.

5 BLAZEON FIVE (Roger Teal) Two class-3 two-mile Ascot (soft) strikes in the summer following lower-level hat-trick last autumn. Set only 8st 8lb and drawn 29.

CLIMBING THE 2YO RANKS

⭕ 1.15 York (Rockingham Stakes, 2yo 6f) I would normally discard an animal who has been second three times in a row, on the grounds that he maybe doesn’t want to go past.

But Purosangue has been runner-up to the smart Big Evs (beaten a neck on soft) and then here at York to Inquisitively, who boosted the form at Group-3 level only yesterday.

And all three seconds were over 5f, all finishing well and seemingly crying out for today’s six.

Serried Ranks also likes plenty of cut in the ground and his Goodwood nursery strike now looks hot on account of the runner-up’s subsequent Group 3 success.

SUPERNAP ON CITY OF TROY

⭕ 2.00 Newmarket (Dewhurst Stakes) The last three winners of this have gone on to 2,000 Guineas glory in three countries: St Mark’s Basilica (France 2020), Native Trail (Ireland 2021) and Chaldean (England 2022).

City of Troy, the colt described by Aidan O’Brien as having ‘unnatural ability’, and who dares to stand alongside older horses at Ballydoyle, runs with reservations about the ground, so may ease on the morning price.

Iberian and Array have both won with plenty of give and could fight for second place on the podium.

SIGNIFICANTLY WEIGHTED

⭕ 2.25 York (Sprint Trophy, 6f) Nine out of 10 winners in the decade had a single-figure draw, and nine out of 10 were double-figure odds at SP!

Yet the usual suspects among handicap trainers in the North scored every time; not a single southern raider won.

Second in the Portland and winner of the Ayr Gold Cup, both on softish ground, Significantly (stall 8 at BETDAQ 7.6) has hardly been punished with an overall 5lb rise.

The Silver Cup scorer at Ayr, Wobwobwob (stall 3 today at 6.0), was also placed in the Great St Wilfrid; stays further and the more rain the better.

The Ridler (out of 6) will be on your mind, as a Royal Ascot winner in 2022, now dropping from the Pattern, but we have no guidance about the ground.

Laugh A Minute got lucky with the draw in this in 2021 on a softish surface and was beaten only half a length. In gate 2 that day; in gate 2 today at 26.0 on BETDAQ.

CERTAIN HANDICAP SLIDE

⭕ 3.35 York (1m 2f handicap) The likely favourite, La Yakel, a winner at Doncaster the last day, is badly drawn out of gate 12.
Eight winners out of nine were from single-figure stalls, six of them from the low four.

Certain Lad (BETDAQ 7.7.) fits the bill but hasn’t won for more than three years. He won a Group 3 on today’s course and has gradually slipped down the handicap.

French-winner Aalto is interesting at 28.0 on BETDAQ, first run for Ian Williams.

⭕ 3.50 Newmarket (1m 1f Group 3) Knight seems sure to run his usual race, though this is a step up in trip. But the improver is Real Gain, impressive on firm but who has soft ground on both sides of his pedigree.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
