IT’S FRANKIE’S FINALE TODAY: Daqman votes for a flourish from Ryan Moore to outgun Frankie Dettori on his final day at Ascot, but Hollie Doyle is not far behind.

LIGHTNING FINAL-DAY START

⚠️ HEADS UP Part of the answer why there have been so many shock results at Ascot this week was revealed by Shaquille’s victory in the Commonwealth Cup yesterday.

They go too fast, then the effort of the final furlong leaves them vulnerable; so many races have been ‘won’ tantalising yards from the post.

Rearing up in the stalls, Shaquille lost lengths at the start but it worked well for him; Little Big Bear beat pace-setting Swingalong in a final-furlong duel but both were wide open to Oisin Murphy’s sustained rails run.

⭕ 2.30 Royal Ascot (Chesham Stakes) The same thing happened in this race last year: there was an early fight for the lead, which included the favourite.

Half a dozen of them took a keen hold and were stuffed by Holloway Boy, who started LAST and the one that stayed with the lead down the middle, Pearling Path, was cut down. SP of the first three: 40-1, 80-1, 33-1.

On the straight course yesterday, middle to far side was favoured: 8 beat 1 in the opener, 4 beat 2 in Shaquille’s defeat of Little Big Bear.

Pearls And Rubies (out of 7 today) has the tenacious Lightning Leo (9) to do battle with, as Nemonte (1) waits down the fence.

Jabaara failed to boost La Garrida yesterday, and that one is adjacent to Content in stalls 16 and 17.

Irish–raider Snellen (13) did a fast private trial for this and tries to emulate his sire, who won the Jersey over this trip.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.98 Pearls And Rubies, 13.5 Snellen, 14.5 Lightning Leo

ANTARCTIC WITH A LATE BURST

⭕ 3.05 Royal Ascot (Jersey Stakes) Charlie Appleby goes for a hat-trick in this, after winning with well-backed Creative Force and Noble Truth in the last couple of years, both down the near side, and Mysterious Night is out of 13 right next door to where Noble Truth was.

Enfjaar (9), Empty Metaphor (10) and Covey (11) have all been pace horses so far and are expected to create that familiar V-formation down the middle.

Will that let through Holloway Boy (gate 2) or is more likely present the near rail to The Antarctic (14), who sometimes starts late but has a high cruising speed.

Woodbine winner Mysterious Night (13) has to bounce back from a Craven Stakes flop. Yesterday’s ‘Ascot Derby’ winning team has a progressive filly in Olivia Maralada but Epsom where she won is an entirely different track.

So I’ll take Quar Shamar (6th) from Irish 2,000 Guineas form, boosted by the winner, Paddington, this week.

BETDAQ value 6.7 The Antarctic, 14 Quar Shamar,

MOORE BOOTS HOME WELLINGTON?

⭕ 3.40 Royal Ascot (Jubilee Stakes, 6f) Five winners of this had already run in the Kings Stand; now Highfield Princess tries to back up quickly after running second in that race to Bradsell.

She was drawn 10 to Bradsell’s 7 four days ago but comes out of 16 today, just as we are expecting preference to switch to the nearside.

Art Power (11) and Al Suhail (12) like to lead, and could give a strong tow to last year’s Wokingham winner, Rohaan (10), along with Run To Freedom (13) and Highfield Princess.

A winner 12 times in Hong Kong, Wellington (out of 15) is a rear runner, who could be aimed at the near rail later on.

Kinross was winner of the British Champions Sprint here on good to soft last October from Run To Freedom – they were in 17 and 14 – with Rohaan (gate 6) fourth.

Rohaan is a dual winner of the Wokingham here but was down the field again behind Run To Freedom at Salisbury (good to firm) last month.

Kinross has to come out of the one stall with a group that could include Sacred (3), Artorius (8), Sandine (9), and the very smart US raider, Big Invasion (7).

BETDAQ value 7.6 Wellington, 37 Run To Freedom

WINNER BLOWING IN THE WIND

⭕ 4.20 Royal Ascot (Hardwicke Stakes, 1m 4f) The defection of Hukum leaves Pyledriver clear in the ratings but..

Four-year-olds ‘always’ win this (10-11) so, yet again at Ascot this week, this race is blowing in the wind. Maybe it’s a West Wind Blows.

He has not yet shown much form at the trip (strike rate 4-5 over 1m 2f) but the Crisfords were talking about the Arc last year.

Or it may be blowing Free Wind, 6-8 including the Park Hill (fillies’ St Leger) but with the speed to score at 1m 2f.

Changingoftheguard won the King Edward V11 at this meeting last year but likes to lead and is off-putting as a sweater in the prelims.

Great Voltigeur winner on firm, Deauville Legend was 4th – beaten favourite – in the Melbourne Cup (soft) when the ground went against him.

With Deauville Legend absent 235 days and with autumn targets, I take the speed and stamina mix of Free Wind for a stable and jockey in form.

BETDAQ value 2.28 Free Wind

SAINT LAWRENCE SEE WAY..

⭕ 5.00 Royal Ascot (Wokingham Handicap, 6f) The Sandringham yesterday could be the draw guide to this; the result by stall was 25, 16, 18, 24, 20, 29, 19.

Stinging like a bee early down the middle could be stalls 10, 12, 18 (with the battler Probe most likely to hang on in there from 17).

But 31 is a pace horse opening up the possibility of a near-rail finish: that’s Princess Shabnam in first-time hood. Saint Lawrence (30), once thought to be Kings Stand material, could see a way clear to nip up the rail for the hot combo of Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle.

Albasheer (out of 26) could be involved for a stable in form, waiting behind the high group: Jamie Spencer has already bagged the Buckingham Palace Handicap like that from a high draw this week.

Albasheer (blinkers) and course-and-distance winner Khanjar from 24 (cheekpieces) both wear aids for the first time.

The progressive Orazio (29) goes for a hat-trick (the last win was here) and Ayr Gold Cup star Bielsa (25) has been in good form this Spring.

BETDAQ value 12.5 Khanjar, 14 Probe, 18.5 Saint Lawrence

DAWN DOUBLE TO CLOSE ASCOT

⭕ 5.35 Royal Ascot Aussie trainer Gai Waterhouse, owner of Cuban Dawn, is impressed with Hollie Doyle and has had Jim Bolger’s Irish yard line up this tilt at an Ascot handicap. Well drawn in 15 at BETDAQ 14.0.

⭕ 6.10 Ascot Willie Mullins, who won earlier in the week with Vauban, gives Stratum his hat-trick chance in this Queen Alexandra Stakes, which is 2m 5.5f.

That’s a sweat for the jocks as well as the punters, most of whom will be hoping to ‘get out’, if results have continued against them.

Getting out with them, hoping he’s ahead of Frankie Dettori, is Ryan Moore, who tries to land a rare Ascot winner for J P McManus. Dawn Rising, classy over Jumps and on the Flat, looks ideal for the part.

BETDAQ 3.9. Last two races give you a Dawn double at around 40-1.
