HEADS UP ON 17-2 WINNER AND MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM: After 120 points profit from 11 winners in five days, Daqman had an off day with his selections yesterday, unless you were following his new feature, Heads Up, which on Tuesday warned you four days in advance not to miss the debut of a two-year-old at Haydock last night. Result: West End Girl (WON 17-2). ‘Looks a very useful prospect’ was the racereader’s verdict, but that was after the event. Looks out for Heads Up again next week and learn something before the event.

CLASS KEY TO PLAYING PROKOFIEV

1.50 Sandown (Coral Charge) Eight of the 10 winners in the decade were drawn in the low-four stalls, where 5.0 BETDAQ offer Sergei Prokofiev (in stall 2) drops two grades after failing to get to grips with the Group-1 players in the Kings Stand Stakes.

Third in the Coventry and Cornwallis winner as a two-year-old, he has his preferred firm ground today, but that also applied in the Palace House Stakes when he was only fourth behind Mabs Cross.

The handicapper is not impressed and he is now just a pound in front of the improver, Garrus, though that one’s chance is potentially spoiled by being drawn wide in gate 9.

Molecomb winner and Middle Park third, Rumble Inthejungle, is just one more pound further back, and has Frankie Dettori to do the steering, after everything went wrong in the Commonwealth Cup: rain, a poor start, a bad bump. May need another run and drifting this morning.

Pocket Dynamo has already been beaten by Garrus and Sergei Prokofriev, while both Muthmir and Caspian Prince, while still capable of scoring, are in a race which has gone to horses aged three and four eight times in nine years (the other winner was a six-year-old).

It’s not really a track for old legs, though Muthmir almost defied the stats a year ago when he was a neck second, and he has been primed for today with just one run back.

THE DRINKS ARE DOWN TO MOJITO

2.25 Sandown (Coral Challenge) Five of the last six winners have been drawn 1 to 5, and 80% of winners are aged three or four.

The morning favourite, History Writer, who won over CD here from stall 3 three weeks ago, is now in 11 and the ground has changed from the good-to-soft of that success; he’s up 6lb.

Greenside, who was fourth that day, is 7lb better off with History Writer and is well drawn in 4, but now aged eight.

Qaroun’s in 2 but has put on 5lb without winning, getting a bridesmaid reputation with form figures of 2322.

Escobar (second) and Via Serendipity (third) are 3lb higher than when placed in this race last year. Serendipity is a CD winner, back to form on the last day, and comes out of stall 6.

They’re much of a muchness but, as well as lining up Muthmir in the Charge, William Haggas has prepared Mojito for this Challenge, and booked Frankie Dettori. The money came for this one so I grabbed 7.2 on BETDAQ.

THANKING YOU MUCHLY, FRANKIE!

3.00 Sandown (Coral Distaff) Two of the last three winners were down the field in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot.

Desirous (seventh) and Modern Millie (12th, hampered two out)) bid to do the same trick from the same race of 15 days ago.

William Haggas gives himself a third ace to play this afternoon in Hidden Message, primed at Chantilly on the last day.

Beyond Reason’s form suggests she might need some rain, so one for later on perhaps, with Muchly the one with the best mile form: 4.1 in the BETDAQ orange for another dashing ride from the front by Frankie Dettori.

3.15 Haydock (Old Newton Cup) First Eleven is 2-2 in handicaps when dropped down from Group races since this time last year but Al Muffrih – yet another Haggas player today – is well bred to step up to today’s trip after impressing at Redcar.

Collateral form reveals that Epaulement, who was beaten half a length by Aquarium at Chester, was more than 13 lengths off Al Muffrih at Redcar.

ENABLE TO MAKE MAGICAL RETURN

3.35 Sandown (Coral-Eclipse Stakes) ABC form guide, Wednesday Archive. Now here’s Daqman’s order in for the 2019 renewal:

1 Enable After her nine stakes-race wins in a row worth £8million, trainer John Gosden will have her at concert pitch today. He will not want to see her lose her record to a filly she’s already beaten, Magical.

And the threat of a top-class three-year-old has receded rapidly with a blanket-finish Epsom Derby and a 33-1 shock Curragh Derby, leaving a lone player, Telecaster, as de-Fender of the younger generation.

The recent history of the Eclipse has a Derby winner (Golden Horn) and King George winner (Nathaniel) taking this drop in trip without too much trouble.

Still lightly raced, albeit highly tried, Enable is arguably better than any of them as she steps back onto the green with a third Arc pin high.

2 Magical Just threeparts of a length behind Enable in a thrilling finish to the Breeders Cup Turf last November, when only three.

But winnings from her six stakes-race successes have earned only £774,500 by comparison, and she’s been going up and down on the spot despite a hat-trick this year.

Her rating going into all three was 122, as she beat the same horse – Flag Of Honour – into second every time, and only one of the three was a Group 1.

3 Regal Reality The perfect prep for this was his winning the Brigadier Gerard Stakes over today’s CD on his first attempt at 1m 2f, beating two winners since, Matterhorn and Danceteria, who takes him on again with nearly seven lengths to make up.

Sir Michael Stoute is keen to bag the placemoney here and have either Regal Reality or Mustashry (or both!) climb the final rung into Group 1.

4 Mustashry Stoute continually bends the rules for older horses. Though past their peak in the modern challenge of the season’s Classic animals versus those of last year, Sir Michael raises their game when they are five even six.

But further improving Lockinge winner Mustashry to win this would make him the first six-year-old hero of the Eclipse since Bendigo in 1886. To back him in this company would be well round the bend!

5 Telecaster Enough said about this year’s three-year-olds. Hughie Morrison and Oisin Murphy, both, are to be congratulated on their rise and rise in recent years, but have set themselves an unenviable task here of resurrecting the pride of a generation. My guitar gently weeps.
