TWO SUPERNAPS SCORE IN FIVE MINUTES: What a Christmas week! Daqman, who landed back-to-back big races with his horses to follow in the King George and the Coral National, yesterday switched to a double of supernaps. Both won in the space of FIVE minutes !
WON 5-4 LET RIP
WON 8-13 APPLES JADE
TWO HORSES TO FOLLOW IN TWO DAYS: His horses to follow have to see out a Yankee with four runners today. They are 464 points up after two big race winners in two days. Just one winner could send his list soaring past the 500.
WON 12-1 CLAN DES OBEAUX
WON 3-1 ELEGANT ESCAPE
FOLLOW UP WITH CHAMPS YANKEE
You never know your luck! Its certainly held good for my horses to follow in Christmas week with 3-1 and 12-1 winners.
Can four from the list now respond with a Yankee today. If only one can win, they could pass 500 points profit.
Here are the four as they stand. All will have the customary 20 points win.
2.30 Leopardstown (Ryanair Hurdle) Champion hurdlers have won this before and after their title triumphs (Hurricane Fly four times in five years).
SHARJAH faces formidable opponents who are 9lb, 8lb and 7lb higher in the ratings respectively: Melon, Supersundae and Samcro.
Sharjah made all in the Galway Hurdle (soft) in August, with Bedrock fourth, and surprised when mugging Faugheen in the Morgiana Hurdle five weeks ago.
3.00 Newbury (Challow Hurdle) Paul Nicholls, who has sent out 14 winners in two weeks (28%) for a level-stakes profit of 26 points, has the unpresidential Getaway Trump going for a hat-trick.
But this is not a Nicholls event, and Trump has to make up 12lb on CHAMP. who has form figures of 122111, winning easily twice before after long breaks, taking the Ladbrokes Hurdle comfortably over the Newbury CD now the first day of the month.
3.05 Leopardstown A top quality handicap which Joseph O’Brien won two years ago thanks to J J Steven’s 7lb claim.
He would no doubt wish J J could take some of the weight off JACK DILLINGER and has two back-up runners.
But Jack is a horse with a big engine, half-brother to toughies Mala Beach and Bonny Kate, who got further than this.
3.40 Leopardstown Willie Mullins, who has won this bumper three times in six seasons, waited a long time for a horse to come along good enough to name after the mountain that paints such a vivid backdrop to the Closutton stables.
In its shadow many great horses have climbed to the top and Mt LEINSTER last time out ran up against the strong Cheltenham Bumper fancy Malone Road at Punchestown. This is much easier.
THAT’S AMOURI AT SOUTHWELL
12.35 Southwell Amouri Gleam is taken to defy her penalty for her debut success here but she won’t be anything like a 100/1 again.
Despite her price, there didn’t seem to be any fluke about her win earlier in the month when she beat the favourite Point Zero (who has finished second again since) comfortably.
The penalty is always a concern but I’m encouraged by the fact that I think she will improve significantly from first to second start and I think this longer trip should suit well too.
Those with form look modest with the exception of Tum Tum but he has no experience here at Southwell.
Paminah and Dubai Eye are interesting debutants who are worth a look in the market.
1.30 Doncaster Militarian chases the hat-trick but is readily opposable, up a further 5lb for what looked a soft race which he narrowly won at Fakenham last time out.
Preference is for Station Master who has finished runner-up in much better races than Militarian and the handicapper has kept him on a mark of 133.
He chased home The Young Master at Cheltenham last month and pulled 14 lengths clear of the third horse.
Another Frontier looks a little high in the handicap at present. Although second at Uttoxeter last time out he was readily bushed aside and beaten 16 lengths.
1.50 Newbury Nicky Henderson has supplied two of the last five winners of this and could come up trumps again with Dragon D’Estruval.
He could never get competitive on his handicap debut here last month but is worth another try, particularly with this shorter trip likely to suit better and I’m hoping he is ridden more prominently.
Unblinking coasted home at Warwick but has paid the price with the handicapper and a bigger danger may come from Coeur Blimey who should again account for Subcontinent on revised terms after their Hereford 1-2.
3.15 Doncaster Enniscoffey Oscar goes well here (2 of 3 career wins) and is overdue another success.
He switches back to hurdles after failing to cope with Reigning Supreme in what turned out to be a match at Kempton last time out.
Any further rain would help his cause but he’s a Grade 2 winner who is lurking on a good mark at present.
