SHE’S QUEEN FOR A DAY: Could a tactical King George rematch between Jan Brueghel and Calandagan hand the prize to a filly?
GLITTERING 16.0 CHANCE
⭕ 2.20 Ascot (Valiant Stakes) Four of the last six years of this Group 3 have been shared between Team Gosden and Ed Walker, challenged today by the usual suspects (Balding, Beckett, Haggas) in a fillies-and-mares mile.
But the name that might be overlooked is Owen Burrows, who comes into this with stunning form-figures of 1411011
The talk was that his Glittering Surf needed time and would swerve the Guineas and may be Coronation Stakes material.
More patience has clearly been needed but the Oasis Dream filly (out of a Frankel mare) could make her mark in the second half of the season with the yard boasting a 24% strike rate for the year so far. BETDAQ 16.0 this morning.
GOES WELL FRESH AT 25.0
⭕ 3.00 Ascot (International Stakes) Near-side high numbers did well in the 7f draw at the royal meeting and double-figure stalls have won seven of the last nine in this.
But they ran in one big group last year spearheaded by Northern Express, who made all from the one stall!
Fresh (third from gate 18) was a fast-finisher. Worse off with the winner today but has scored at Ascot since of a similar mark and comes here fresh indeed! Just one run this year, a month ago.
In fact, Fresh won the International in 2022, giving 6lb to the fourth horse.. Northern Express! On that form he’s 11lb better off.
Zoum Zoum (19), fifth in last year’s Jersey Stakes, has also had a very light season, targeting this £77,000 prize.
Akkadian Thunder (20) was runner-up in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, with Northern Express seventh but has it to do at the weights to stop Billyjoh (15), who had to be switched, third behind him, at Doncaster the last day.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 14 Billyjoh, 16.5 Zoum Zoum, 25 Fresh

⭕ 4.10 Ascot (King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes) The King George is now a breeders party, an oddity after the Classic season and before the British championships and the Arc de Triomphe.
Enable apart, only three Classic-season animals have won in the last 21 years. Today? No three-year-old runners at all; not a one!
Again, take out Enable and you won’t find more than one winning favourite in the last 15 years, with among the winners SPs of 6-1, 13-2 (twice) 9-1, 18-1 and 25-1.
If Jan Brueghel wins, he becomes another Galileo to continue the line for Ballydoyle.
If Calandagan wins, the Aga Khan Studs will celebrate but be forced to pass the bottle to Ballydoyle, where his sire Gleaneagles is standing.
Tactics today are crucial. Jan Brueghel is a St Leger winner, who can afford to expend some energy getting Calandagan at full stretch, once stablemate Continuous has set a generous pace for him.
Yet punters are playing Calandagan to reverse the old one-two delivered by Jan Brueghel in the Coronation Cup.
It’s too close to call so I’ll have my pound on Juddmonte to step up with last season’s champion (fillies and mares), Kalpana, first time over the trip this season. BETDAQ 6.9.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
