IT’S DO-IT-AGAIN DONCASTER

⭕ 3.05 Doncaster (6f handicap) Four previous winners on this day in the last two seasons try to ‘do it again’ on Town Moor this afternoon: Aleezdancer and Bernardo O’Reilly (both 3.05), Bucephalus (3.40) and Little Muddy (4.50).

Whatever happens, surely none can repeat the fate of two previous Lincoln winners who were both back for more in yesterday’s big handicap: Johan finished 25-lengths stone last of 19, while Migration refused to move an inch from his No 11 starting stall and didn’t even take part.

Kevin Ryan had Aleezdancer ready first time to win this sprint a year ago: today is same time, same place, same rating, same ground.. and adjacent stall; gate 2 last year, the one stall this!

He gave 9lb and a beating to Blind Beggar but is set only a pound more today, which is well wiped out by a 7lb claimer. Or is it?

Can the apprentice, Curtis Wilson-Ruddock, do the ‘job?’ I can’t find a win next to his name, though he rode Aleezdancer 6th in the Sprint Trophy at York in the autumn; weakened final 110 yards.

Bernardo O’Reilly won this two years back from badly-drawn Woven, who waited until last May to reappear. But it was at Doncaster and it was a winning one. Woven’s overall Town Moor form is 2313.

It would be a bit churlish to complain that his trainer, Michael Dods, is missing strike: his last six starters have produced four seconds but three in a row were beaten short-head, half a length, neck.

Richard Hughes is 2110212 and his contender, Knebworth, had Bernard O’Reilly behind on ‘Haydock soft’ under claimer Ethan Jones, who is back on board today.

The easy winner that day was the grey Roach Power for the Tim Easterby yard, in fair form this week for the time of year; and it has another solid chance in the 5.25 with Showalong.

A tongue-tie could help Roach Power (Betdaq Betting Exchange 9.3 at time of writing), while cheekpieces may boost Knebworth (8.2).

STRESSFREE STABLE IN FORM

⭕ 3.40 Doncaster (1m 2f handicap) Bucephalus, back to form over hurdles the last day, scored in this handicap last year off 77, thanks to 7lb apprentice Rose Dawes; now he has 82, claiming the same from Ethan Jones.

Enthused will be fancied, after Silvestre De Sousa’s return to the English turf with a winner yesterday, my nap Charyn.

Four-year-olds do best but they have only two runners: Stressfree (David O’Meara) and There’s The Door (David Evans), who scored first time out here last season but is 12lb higher now and may need a trip down the handicap!

BET: O’Meara is an early-bird starter: his current form, AW and turf, is 1121001033, while Stressfree finished last season with a heavy-ground strike at Nottingham. BETDAQ 4.0 offers.

LAY: The change of trainer is helping but Enthused has won only his maiden from 17 starts, always a bad sign.

SAM BROWN’S HARD TO BEAT

⭕ 4.30 Ascot (3m veterans’ chase handicap) Sam Brown (nap) won the Veterans’ Chase Series Final in January with some ease, tempting Anthony Honeyball to take a swing at two Graded races, at Kempton and Newbury, which were his level when he was winning way back.

He didn’t disgrace himself with air shots in either the Denman Chase (fourth, with the winner, Shishkin, and third Protektorat) or the Kempton Trophy (less than four lengths fifth, finished well) and can return to winning form in this lower par, with Freddie Gingell claiming 5lb.
