BLANK@*! BLANK@*! BLANK@*! Daqman is clearly not a happy bunny after celebrating his ninth birthday in the worst way possible: by drawing a blank on a Saturday. Says Daqman: ‘I’d set yourself up for a few penalty kicks, and then did a Germany v Italy.’

LUCKY LAYS ARE COMING BACK: Even without winners, Daqman could virtually guarantee a profit or a breakeven when his lays were operational. So they’ll be back in Double Whammys for the July Meeting from next Thursday. A reminder of the kind of lays sequence he’s capable of is listed below.

BANKER DOUBLE TODAY: Daqman reduces his stakes again as he goes for a banker double at Ayr and Market Rasen, while It’s Daqman 52, Pricewise 24 as they go head to head for the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

LAYS WILL RETURN FOR THE JULY MEETING

Record 16 lays for a meeting 16 consecutive Cheltenham Festival. Unbeaten for three years in a row (2008-10)
400 from 524 lays (76%) Lays to May 6th, 2010.
Ten in a row September 7-30, 2011.
Eleven in a row August-October, 2013
Nine in a row July 2015
Record run 45 out of 50 (90%) To March 2016

ERUPT COULD BURST BACK IN GRAND PRIX

3.15 Saint-Cloud (Grand Prix) English raiders are six out of 12 since 2004, all with five-year-olds, interrupting runs of six and then four for four-year-olds

John Gosden (Eagle Top) and Marco Botti (Dylan Mouth), both horses aged five, are basically taking on Alain de Royer-Dupre, who has three runners, seemingly headed by Vazirabad.

But Vazirabad is an unbeaten (six in a row) champion stayer who hasn’t raced over a trip this short since his debut in May last year.

He came with his usual long run to beat the mare Siljan’s Saga in the French St Leger at just under 2m last October, despite a slow race on soft ground.

It’s a faster surface today and the trainer has tried to guarantee pace to the race via Alamgiyr.

Siljan’s Saga doesn’t do much for the form, apart from his seventh to Golden Horn in the Arc (Eagle Top, Manatee and Silverware in rear) behind Erupt, who was fifth.

Siljan’s Saga and Silverware were well held at Chantilly in the Spring by Garlingari but Silverware turned the tables on fast ground here at Saint-Cloud before Garlingari split One Foot In Heaven and Harlem for the Grand Prix de Chantilly a month ago.

Harlem has twice been a length down to One Foot In Heaven. Each has had only six races in his life and one or both should improve again.

Dylan Mouth, the darling of Capannelle, has failed to act in two sorties to Ascot, but a line through Prince Gibraltar has him potentially in front of Siljan’s Saga and Co on that Arc form.

Eagle Top was second in the King George in this month last year but his form tailed off after, and it’s not been a great year for John Gosden (Eagle Top), whose current Group-race form is 000020, and his top three-year-olds So Mi Dar and Wings Of Desire are both under a cloud.

VERDICT: I can’t have Eagle Top for those reasons and it will be unusual if Italian form is good enough, though at least one line says Dylan Mouth is in with a shout.

One Foot In Heaven is the same stable’s alternative to the stayer Vazirabad but Garlingari was the ‘moral’ over him in the Grand Prix de Chantilly, beaten less than a length giving 5lb.

Garlingari is trained by Corine Barande-Barbe, who showed with Cirrus Des Aigles how good she is with older horses and at keeping them at peak.

The ‘hidden horse’ is Erupt, last year’s Arc fifth, not disgraced in the Japan Cup and eased down in the falsely run Prix d’Ispahan.

Stephane Pasquier, successful with Garlingari this season, prefers Erupt on whom he had a similar Group-winning sequence last season. Erupt is 13.5 and Garlingari 15.5 as I write.

DOUBLE BANKER TILT AT AYR AND RASEN

2.25 and 3.30 Ayr Joe Fanning has two interesting bookings today. Street of Dreams (2.25) is reckoned capable of beating the filly, The Begum, with Saeed Bin Suroor near-50% strike rate with his two-year-olds.

In the 10-furlong handicap (3.30), Fanning is 2-2 from two when teaming up with Iain Jardine, who has 14.0 BETDAQ offer Kerry Icon hooded for the first time.

3.40 Market Rasen Another 100% record (3-3) is Freddie Mitchell riding for Nicky Hendertson and we’ve already swerved a mediocre Flat day once before to follow the sequence-winning mare Only For Love.
